Belkin Tunebase FM
Model F8Z183 (older models are not branded as working with the iPhone)
Basically it's a car charger/FM transmitter/conveinent holder for your iPhone or iPod. Plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and has an arm that extends from it that is very stable.

Works perfectly with my iPhone 3G. My only issue is sometimes it's difficult to find an FM station that doesn't have music on it. Crowded radio market makes that difficult...so that all depends on the market you are in.

I'm going to be resolving that FM Station issue soon as I'm replacing the head unit for my car stereo...going with a Pioneer DEH-P4000UB. I'm not hooking the iPhone up via USB even though it has it as I believe it's only made for iPods. Instead I'm hooking up my Tunebase to the front auxilary port (the Tunebase has a line out on the bottom of it). I'm mainly looking to replace the factory Pioneer 6 CD head unit (the 6 cd changer is in the head unit itself) in my truck because it ALMOST ate my brand new Metallica CD. The rollers are getting a bit iffy on it. The head unit is about 6 years old and I don't need a CD changer now that I have my iPhone. Note: I will NOT be testing the new Pioneer head unit for iPhone functionality.

Question: Is there (I doubt it) any way to shut off this darn message? I know that it's not compatible. Leave me alone for g** sakes.

I have yet to hear anything on my Sony dock and my volume is at 14... Maybe you have a defective unit?

I did take your advice, and tried it again on the demo units at two different Apple stores here in Denver. Same thing, GSM buzz is heard at volumes past 10. The apple guy there helping me at one store said that it was a known problem with iPhones using Edge mode and that Sony has a small shielding issue.

I did notice you had a 3G (tagline). Can you try this? Turn 3G data off and have it revert to Edge. Then see if it buzzes intermittantly at volume 14. My test is to plug it into the Sony then play an audio-only track, then go to Safari and load a page like msnbc or foxnews and it should begin buzzin', otherwise you'd have to wait some time before it starts talking to the cell towers again...

From what I read, the 3G data doesn't interfere as badly as Edge.

I have an original that doesn't have 3G capability, so I'm on Edge all the time.

Wifie's 3G has 3G turned off due to the dropped calls issue (just upgraded her to 2.1 so testing the waters on the dropped call thing) and hers buzzes too (ours, Apple Store 1, and Apple Store 2)

If I can quote iLounge's review of it:

They're reviewing the ICF-C1iPMK2 and comparing it against the iHome iP99

"iPhone compatibility is also basically the same in both units. Though both systems carry Apple’s certification, neither one is completely free from the TDMA interference that could be heard in earlier iPod-only audio systems. Thankfully, only a hint of the noise can be heard at a very low volume during music playback, and then only when the speaker is on, the music is either silent or nearly so, and a local cell phone tower is being accessed. The interference is more noticeable in the FM radio, and then even more in the AM radio; having your iPhone on a local Wi-Fi network or avoiding data services while in the dock will reduce these issues dramatically."

However, take it with a grain of salt, the GMS buzz (they call it TDMA interference) seems to be a low priority test item for iLounge and they don't usually say 3G vs Edge when testing either.

GSM Buzz: Yes, if the iPhone is on Edge, no if on 3G. Tested in 05 Cadi Escalade and 04 Ford F350.

Audio out does work.

Additional: digital FM station setting, our display went out on it, it's a blue LCD display, we think it was the intense heat in the cars over the 2? years we've had it since the day's of the iPod Video players that destoyed the display, unit still works though
