I remember when the iPhone 4 came out with the groundbreaking retina display. :D

I recall seeing the keynote and being excited to see the retina display in person, but was literally floored with how crisp it was when the phone was handed to me in the Apple Store. Then after getting home, and staring at the default Apps for a good ten minutes and just admiring the beauty of the screen, I downloaded a few third party apps from the App Store, but noted the severe difference between the non-retina icons and those that were high-res. I remember having to hide the ugly pixelated icons in a folder so as to avoid an OCD flare up.. :D. That being said, the screen has always been my number one favorite component of the iPhone 4, and to this day I still occasionally pull out the phone just to admire its crispness - all other iPhone users that I'm friends with don't even blink an eye at it, and probably have no idea what the retina display even means.

I'm expecting it'll be a good 1-3 months before most of the apps we all use are fully updated for the new iPad.

Same reason you use any apps over just visiting the website. The websites aren't usually optimized for the iPad or any touchscreen; which leads to awkward usability issues. Alien Blue is just awesome, and it allows you to quickly and easily navigate reddit without constantly having to hit back/forward or holding down on links to open them in new tabs.

Alien Blue is awesome, yes, I use it on my iPhone all the time. But I also browse Reddit using Safari on my iPad all the time too, with no usability issues at all.

Funnily enough, Reddit didn't work on my iPhone. JavaScript links were broken, submitting links didn't work, and there were formatting errors. Works fine on my iPad though. Very strange

Reddit on safari isn't bad, in fact it's how I've used reddit on my iPad until I discovered AB - I haven't been back since.

Just out of curiosity, does Reddit work properly on your iPhone's browser (assuming you have one)? I'd like to know if my iPhone's going weird or not. Sorry for derailing the thread a bit here.

Yep, it looks to be working fine on my 4.

interesting to see facebook on that list since they are using the last ones to support the iPad.. hopefully it has timeline support along with retina display.

Am I the only person who hates the use of "HD" on the end of apps? Especially when Devs were calling their standard iPad apps "HD" when they weren't HD. Hopefully the Retina Display won't herald the dawn of a new age of "HD+" apps.

Does the logout button work? That's one thing that broke when I tried to use it. Maybe it was just a one off issue.

Yeah I'm able to log out just fine. Only thing that seems wrong is that inputting text in the comment box is laggy when you first click in it.

Back on Topic, I'm surprised at some of the file size changes. They aren't anywhere near the 2-3x size people were saying they'd be.

its towards the bottom of the article which states these apps should be updated later today to include retina display support and facebook is first on the list.

ah, somehow i managed to miss that bit and started reading from "Several high profile games also due for an update..."

I can't image it'll take much to update Facebook, it's a pretty basic designed UI and pictures aren't in a high resolution even on the web version of facebook so they won't be being updated.

it was just an easily recognisable way for people to differentiate between iPad and iPhone apps, i doubt it'll be going anywhere.

a lot of those apps on the bottom list have already been updated. I went and checked.. Facebook and Flipboard have NOT as of this writing. Facebook really needs a update because 4.1 has been really buggy especially on the iPhone.

I hope they update twitter and the weather channel for retina display.

All of my apps were approved today for the Retina display :) I can't wait to show would-be buyers in person soon.

Apple has a section in the App Store showcasing the new retina apps. But can we keep a list of the apps in the first post. I'm curious which apps I own already that will be updated vs me purchasing new ones.

I just got Tweetbot. I hate the fact that I have to buy it on my iPhone AND my iPad! Goodness. That's just dumb!

Hopefully it FINALLY WORKS! That app is flawed beyond belief. And I'm just speaking from the iPhone app.

Thats why I try and support the guys who "+" theres so it works on both with one purchase. Some of my better apps are phone only but I'll say this, I doubt they go back and retina-fy the old games they've already sold. We'll see new versions of all the games that get the retina treatment.

What will the iPad do with the ~720p games we already have for the previous gen? Anyone know?

well we will see if we even get a update today to begin with.. they been taking too long since december (the last update).

Reeder's been updated!

All that's left is Instapaper. and my iPad workflow resolution upgrade is complete. :D
