That's the point I was trying to make. But Satori's (wrong) reply is just going to cause further confusion.

This has been discussed elsewhere I believe.

The 5s has a secure enclave for the Touch ID, but it does not have a new, separate secure enclave for Apple Pay. Apparently the hardware requirements are different for the storage of Touch ID data and Apple Pay data.

Oh the same NFC icons that works on my Nexus 5 from Last Nov..........

Yes, the ones that no one really cared about or wrote articles about or tweeted about or got excited about until now. Same ones. Same ones available to some of my credit cards that I still never used. Until now.

NO, that's not what I'm talking about, or what that paragraph was referring to.

It was referring to using Apple Pay to pay for something within an App or a Website (this is different from physically inside a store with NFC). Apple Pay can also be used within apps on devices that support Touch ID

You see how the ipad mini 3 and ipad air 2 support this? They don't have NFC chips either. An NFC chip isn't necessary for this type of Apple Pay transaction. [Think of the example Tim Cook did, using the Target app or website, purchasing Beats headphones to be shipped to his home]

Ah I see - sorry! My mistake, I thought you were referring to in store use.

No reason not to let the 5s to the party I guess. Perhaps they will change it if enough people use this:

disppointed

was hoping for more that WE use - but walgreens is good - wholefoods to (when we can afford to buy there) - hoping for publix and 7 11 - then I am good.

Is this really the entire list?

Did you miss the first phrase?

"While Apple Pay will work in any store that accepts contactless payments..."

Hadn't seen this before. That's it for apple pay on the 5s then.... unless you but an apple watch!

No worries. Someone a few posts above let me know why I could be wrong though, and that the lack of it working on a 5S is legitimate.

"The 5s has a secure enclave for the Touch ID, but it does not have a new, separate secure enclave for Apple Pay. Apparently the hardware requirements are different for the storage of Touch ID data and Apple Pay data. " Very interesting.

I live in Europe, and this doesn't mildly concern or effect me at all. :(

Amen. Not sure what the big deal is I spend less than 2 minutes a day on average paying at the supermarket I have zero use for this. Plus the girls at the register are lovely to look at over here :)

has partnered up with several retailers for the launch of Apple Pay, to ensure the mobile payment service will work smoothly in those locations.

It's important that people read this sentence! It's not limited to the stores Apple partnered with, but it will work anywhere with an NFC terminal.

Apple Pay can also be used within apps on devices that support Touch ID, which includes the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple's upcoming iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2. Apple's iPhone 5s does not appear to be compatible according to the Apple Pay website, even though it has Touch ID.

Wow, this particular example of Apple artificially making hardware obsolete is pretty bad. Worse than Mac Mini 2011 and MacBook Air 2011 owners not being able to use Handoff, despite having the correct and necessary Bluetooth 4.0 hardware.

The reason is the 5S doesn't have NFC chip in it.

Touch ID != Apple Pay. NFC capabilities = Apple Pay.

Not quite. They try to shaft you but sometimes you can get around it. Post 570.
For the purposes of this thread though, it is purely lack of the NFC chip.

Wow really never had an issue with Google Wallet....but I am happy for all you isheeps out there....took a yr for you guys to get what I got last yr.......

I'm not sure what's more pathetic: that you have an account at MacRumors to talk trash or that your grammar and punctuation are that abysmal.

Sheep is already plural. It would be "iSheep."

(And, by the way, I own an Android phone.)

Don't waste any energy feeling disappointed. This is just the beginning. And be thankful that you are in the US, where this is available. There's 100+ other countries that are truly waiting.

Read again - this is for online purchases. iPads don't have NFC and they can make online purchases.

This is also why I'm glad I skipped the whole "5" generation.

Radio Shack?

I was at my local Radio Shack Saturday and asked if they were ready for ApplePay. I received blank stares from both employees. They were clueless, said they had never heard of it. Wow.

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but 8.1 Apple Pay being used at McDonalds:

Grilled chicken? 20-piece nuggets is where it's at, man.

Where's the west coast video buying breakfast??

"Radio Shack: you've got questions, we've got batteries."
