up until this point, I have always supported Apple on their decisions but I have to say that Lion is a complete disappointment.

where is the finder slider to change the size on the icons on the fly? is it also gone? I am very close to restoring back to snow leopard and call this lost of the $29.00 a learning experience.

All you have to do is show the Status Bar under View -> Show Status Bar

or hit Cmd + /

So called natural scrolling sucks.

Hiding the user library also sucks, especially when you have to acquaint newbies with the terminal :D

The entitlement some people feel is frightening... If you don't like the changes, don't use Lion. Send feedback to Apple if you think it's something that should be changed.

Was it annoying that ~/Library/ was hidden? Yes, but I unhid it with Terminal.
Can Mission Control be annoying? Yeah, but I'm learning to work around the annoyances.
Was the inverted scrolling annoying? Yes, at first, but I got used to it after a day of using it.

My point is, give the changes a chance, or go back to 10.6. Sulking and pouting about it won't change a thing.

My biggest gripe is that I cannot have multiple full screen apps enabled when working with multiple displays. I have 3 monitors, and always have open iTunes and mail on the secondary displays.

Also my mouse is glitchy as hell when playing starcraft. Almost enough to just switch back to SL...

I also don't get all the excitement over fullscreen apps. It doesn't lend itself very well to multi-tasking, even multi-tasking within one application. Plus in Safari, etc you just get empty background for most of the site anyway when it's fullscreen.

13" macbook pro...full screen RULES...

I'd like to rearrange my desktops and Full Screen apps in MC.

I'd like to set specific apps to always open in their own individual desktops.

I'd like the option to fully remove LaunchControl. I'll never use it so may as well recoup some of my hard drive space.

I'd like 2 finger swipe returned to Finder, iTunes, Firefox etc.

I'd like to be able to switch between composing mail and actual mail inboxes in full screen Mail.

I'd like to be able to wake my MBP by moving the trackpad, not having to click it or press a key.

Yeah, there's lots I'd rather have implemented into this OS, and majority are slight tweaks so by 10.7.1 I may be more content.

I've fed all this back to Apple through the proper channels though.

MAJOR Issue with new Finder

What were they thinking when they changed the drag and drop feature options when copying (syncing) one folder with another?

I have a MBPro and an iMac. I try to keep most of my files synchronized between the two. In the old finder, I could highlight and drag the contents of a folder on the iMac to a folder on the MBPro. Finder would then tell me that there are duplicates and how did I want to resolve them (along with an Apply To All option.) I could Skip, Replace or Quit (I've been doing it so long I don't remember what the buttons were titled, but I know what the options did)

The NEW Finder is NEXT TO USELESS when syncing folders/files. The options now where there are duplicates are: Stop (Stop the copy process entirely,) Keep Both Files (in which it copies the source to the destination and adds a number to the end to make a distinction between copies) or Replace.

This is USELESS for syncing. When the source folder contains 9GB of files/folders, I only want the ones missing at the destination to be copied. I don't want two copies of 9GB on the destination and I don't want 9GB of data transferred and overwritten to the destination ... Especially when what's different is perhaps under 200MB. And they don't even offer the option to SKIP a file when it already exists at the destination!

I REALLY liked this capability in the OLD finder -- It was so much better than the options in Windows. Now, under Lion - the options are WORSE than Windows (if such a thing can be said!)

IMHE (in my humble experience,) Apple has always seemed to give me a setting to revert some of their changes. If there is a setting to revert to the old finder options, I can't find it.

If anyone from Apple reads this - PLEASE revert back to the old Finder copy options or at least give me the ability to switch back to it. If you won't, at least consider adding a SKIP to the new finder copy options ...

There are several other things I dislike, screen sharing doesn't work, not too sure that I like Mission Control in lieu of expose, etc., but those are either bug fixes that Apple will address or simply a matter of me getting use to Lion. In any case, the new copy options in finder are a major decrease in functionality!

je

PS: if there is a way to revert to the old Finder copy options, I haven't found it, so if it exists, no flaming please .....

Got to the desktop you want to assign the app to, open the app and right click the relevant dock icon, select Options> assign to Desktop.

No you don't! I found people would unintentionally be zooming in and out their finder windows more often than they would intentionally, and pretty sure that's why it's gone. I can't envisage a situation where I'd want to do it anyway, tbh.

As for other OP things, I noticed that issue with Mail Fullscreen as well, it really is taking the iPadness to an unfortunate extreme, the death of even desktop multitasking. Not being able to look back at the inbox while composing is a crime, nothing less. And that's why Fullscreen joins Arrange by in Finder as "new features I won't be using" after the first full day of playing. If /Applications could be arranged by kind and that would stick as a global setting , maybe, but not for now. LaunchPad I'm going to try to use, especially if we are indeed moving to phase out the dock.

How can you tell someone else that they don't after they said they do? Personally I used to use that in SL all the time. Very handy when looking for photos in a folder etc. Should at least be an option to enable, or at the very least have a KB shortcut so I can set it in BetterTouchTool.

I agree, Mission control is making me reconsider jumping back to SL. If you have more than 3 windows open in the same app (almost always with creative suite programs) you have to play the guessing game on which window you really want.

It's totally stupid that if I switch between apps I have to guess which window I want to view. It adds in a completely unnecessary step when I have to hit the "Application Windows" short cut after every "miss guess" through mission control. Why did they keep Application Windows and Show desktop shortcuts but morph Show all windows in to the hide and seek game of mission control.

I hope to god they bring back the option of all windows instead of wasting my time guessing and hoping its the window you want. Dragging a window to see if its the one you want is a waste of my time, time = money.

Is there anyway to switch off that bouncy thing it does when you go back in safari with a two finger swipe?

OH GOD, I HATE THAT ONE! I am so accustomed to using 2 fingers to go to back the last page in FireFox. How do I get it back?!?!?

same here, at least on the Magic Touchpad, using 4 fingers to swipe work, but haven't found the trick yet on MacBook Pro.

you can hover over a window with the cursor and hit spacebar to get an enlarged preview of the window. not the same as previous expose behavior, but better than blindly clicking a window.

they should integrate application windows into mission control. maybe something like click on the app icon when in mission control to only show windows of that app.

They should just remove the desktop and fullscreen apps and just show all app windows that are open. Why would I want to see desktop1, desktop2, desktop3, fullscreen app1, fullscreen app2, dashboard (I removed it btw) when I could just have used expose to see all my open windows and just use the swipe gestures to quickly swipe to desktop1,2 and 3.

In fact I don't even use multiple desktop because I want all the windows to be in one place so that I don't have to search for it. Second MC doesn't show what windows are open for your fullscreen apps! Assuming I am writing a new message in mail or my equalizer windows is open in Itunes. It doesn't show them. Yet with expose everything gets shown.

I really don't see a point to reserve some extra space to show your desktop and fullscreen apps. An app is an app. If I am webbrowsing and I want to change a song in itunes, why would I care if it's in fullscreen or not if I just quickly want to switch to that window to change the song?

It's flawed in every way

Time machine keeps freezing my computer. It's really annoying because the back up app should not crash it just makes it look unsafe.

I don't get why Lion is getting rave reviews from tech sites. Lion has 250 new features and none of them are useful. Some of these features are outrageous. For example they listed canceling a transfer, fullscreen chess and resizing from any corner as features.

1) Mission control sucks. First I thought it was an improvement over expose because it shows to logos of the apps so I thought it would be easier to identify my app. But windows of 1 app are grouped together in a STACK(!) making it extremely hard to identify and everything is much smaller because it ALWAYS has to make space for desktop and fullscreen apps too. I don't care about my desktop or fullscreen apps. I want to quickly select an app and wether its in fullscreen or not is IRRELEVANT. I don't need to know that. Now whenever I want to select one of my open apps. I first need to check my MC expose and when its not there I need to check my MC spaces. Second if I really wanted to know what my fullscreen apps are I would just quickly swipe left and right which is a million times quicker than MC. Or I would just REMEMBER them?

2) There is no "save as" option in preview. Instead I need to export it first then click in browse directory. And it never remembers my last choice either. It sucks compared to "save as". It takes one more step and it doesn't remember my last choice. Seriously what was the point of removing it in the first place?

3) No library directory. There is probably a hack for that to get it to show but I haven't really gotten to it. But its an additional thing I need to do in combination with turning off all the feature I don't want to use (like invert scrolling, launchpad).

4) No audio in some of my apps! Another annoyances. I use Mplayer OSX extended and I just can not get it to work after the update. Major fail here.

5) Fullscreen apps. First I thought this was the killer feature of Lion. But then I realized that only like 1% of all the apps support full screen. Ok Lion is still new. The thing is I can't open another window and then go back to the original window. There is no way to switch between the two windows. I am writing an email I have to finish it first before it before I can switch back to my mail program. Oh btw I can not cancel "a compose new message" window with my mouse button. I NEED TO USE A KEYBOARD SHORTCUT!!!! Whats the point of using full screen apps for anything except safari. That combined with MC makes it a disaster to use. You don't have control over your windows and you don't know whats open or not.

6) it takes another additional step to get in to system profiler. Just like basically everything takes an additional step in lion.

7) some of the gestures just do not work at all. Double tap to zoom or 3 finger double to to look up just don't work for me

I rate this server pack a 2/10. It only gets a 2 because of fullscreen which is a nice idea that needs some more work in the future.

1. I don't mind mission control, that with app expose does me fine.

2. Version and autosave is great. If you've ever forgotten to save a file and accidentally closed a program or had crash then this will be a huge benefit. I've had the mishap on overwriting files before that I didn't mean to as well so can see this being a life saver.

3. There is a user library folder, either run the terminal command others have mentioned, or hold the option key down when selecting Go from the menu bar when Finder is the active app.

4. I use MPlayer Extended as well and have had no audio issues.

5. Love full screen apps, and being able to swipe between them without having to come out of fullscreen. If I'm composing a mail I don't need to see my inbox. 3rd party apps might not support it yet as they have to add the new APIs, but all the standard Apple apps like Safari, Text Edit and Mail support it, plus iLife, iWorks and Aperture which is a good starting point.

6. The new System Profiler is great if you work in tech support. Can see it being much easier to get important info from a non tech-savy customer as it's much easier to read, so what if there's an extra click. At least it's still there.

7. Again no issues with gestures here, they work a charm. Sounds like you have a problem with your installation.

killall complaining

You obviously don't have a very small screened laptop. Why should they remove a feature that is very welcome to many users. If anything, you can tell what fullscreen apps are in what order.

Just because YOU don't use the OPTION to have multiple desktops. I LOVE having the ability to use multiple desktops, partly because I'm very OCD about somethings, and partly because multiple apps open at the same time gets very cluttered, and it is easier to swipe to the side to use a new app, then it is to find the correct window.

Full screen apps get their own space because IF you were to have extra windows open below the fullscreen app, when you were switching to it, or looking for something that happened to be below it, you can't find it.

That is the stupidest thing I have heard in a very long time. There have been threads on here, and posts and entire websites devoted to what lion would be like, and yet you still decided to buy Lion and are now complaining because you didn't really read about it, and more importantly, you are complaining about something that is OPTIONAL!!! you don't have to use Mission Control, you don't have to use Mac OS X Lion, you don't have to use a Mac, you don't even have to use a computer. You could survive quite well if you just used some paper and a pen. Call me a Fanboy all you want, and I will admit, there are problems with it, but again, nothing is forcing you to use it.

Been using for a few weeks now and I'm quite happy with Lion. Only two minor annoyances come to mind:

- Sometimes windows in Mission Control don't respond when clicked, and sometimes windows overlap and obscure the desktop previews: hopefully they get the bugs ironed out soon... also dragging a window to the edge of the screen should spawn a new desktop if there isn't one IMHO
- YouControlTunes crashes on Lion despite the developers claim to be 10.7 compatible :(

Couldn't have said it better myself :)

I have a 13 incher. Thats like the second smallest size you can get. And I agree swiping through fullscreen apps and multiple desktops is easier than even SL expose. UNTIL you have more than 5 apps open and 7 windows. You'll get confused on what desktop you put your app on. You'll be searching through your fullscreen apps first to see if the app is there, then you'll be searching desktop 1, 2, .. 3 until you finally found it. And then you'll be app expose-ing (if you are using that gesture) to find that window you were looking for. Is that efficient? I don't think so. And the consistency just isn't there when you have multiple desktops. Assume you are working on desktop 31 and you need to copy and paste something from another app. So you click on that app in the dock and suddenly it goes to desktop 2. You get confused where you are and you can not immediately go back to the previous window. You have to search for it again. The workflow, user experience just isn't consistent. Whats the point of having all the gestures and fullscreen features if only apple apps are using it and a handfull of others. Double tap zoom, autocorrection, tons more stuff like that. Again it creates an OS that is not consistent. You don't know what apps support these features. Right now after the first 2 days of using Lion, I am not using a single feature of lion except my itunes that is in fullscreen. It's all about the consistency

And secondly I don't even know what you are trying to say in the third paragraph. It doesn't make any sense at all.

Third I got Lion for free with the free up-to-date program. It was getting rave reviews from all the tech blogs. And you never actually know how things are working out for you even if you know what the new features are UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED IT!!!! Five.. all the new patches, bugs, security updates, new innovations are coming out for Lion 10.7 and not for SL 10.6.8. So I have to keep up with the latest version of OS X.

The only reason I can see to upgrade is to get better security, e.g. FileVault 2 with it's whole disc encryption.

The rest of the update is like Apple have tinkered with things that weren't broken. I use large, high resolution screens so running full-screen is generally pointless. I've been using Spaces for years with 9 spaces and am very happy with that; MisControl is a really poor substitute.

And in any case there's <cmd><tab> to switch between apps and <cmd><backTick> to switch between windows of the same app.

As for iCal and Address book; I'm sure that even Microsoft would have rejected those designs as too corny.

What works on the iPad will not necessarily work on a full-sized full-fat machine.

As the OP said, 2/10 for this upgrade IMHO.

3) No library directory. There is probably a hack for that to get it to show but I haven't really gotten to it. But its an additional thing I need to do in combination with turning off all the feature I don't want to use (like invert scrolling, launchpad).

iTweax can enable the hidden library folder.
