this probably sounds like a very silly question but can't seem to find an answer for it anywhere...

will it still be able to boot into windows on the new mbp's that have nvidia chipsets?? I really want a new mbp but if this isn't the case will need to shop elsewhere :(

please help answer my naive question!

yes ;)

thank you. i presumed as much but then thought it would have to be an intel chip to boot across. oh well, thanks for your help! 14th here i come

Uhhhh, about the 14th...somewhere on this forum I heard that releases are not made on Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. Aren't we celebrating Columbus Day on he 13th lol? :D

Ahhh man, I wasn't going to start a discussion about Columbus. Discussing him here will be too wrong :) All I wanted to tell is that Monday is a holiday (as far as I know; if I am wrong pls correct me). And according to what I heard here that means no updates on Tuesday. So that means no MBP on the 14th. :(

Why, is it because its not pure aluminum?

Exactly. As someone else said, it's actually an alloy (Combination of a metal + metal and or non-metal). It's not as easy as just picking up the scraps and throwing them into an oven. The strength of the material is leeched from it if it was melted down into another brick.

Obviously they CAN re-use the material, but it takes a lot of energy and work to make it into something usable by Apple. What they'll probably do is resell it. For example, in the construction industry, a lot of that dirt you see being moved around gets sold as fill to other contractors and projects.

The CPU will still be Intel (new Penryn chips). As far as the nVidia chipset, the main concern is the graphics controller. For more information on the architectural implications, see:

I'm wondering whether the MB and MBP will both use Nvidia chipsets. I can understand the appeal of an integrated chipset for the MB but not for the MBP. Let's see what happens.

that's somewhat interesting considering that nvidia said they wouldn't be releasing the MCP7A-U (rumored to go into the new macbooks) until oct. 15

Bad, I thought that's a federal holiday and all companies must provide a day off to their employees. Now I am not sure if I am having a rest this monday : ))

No company has to give you any days off, not even on Labor Day. It's just de facto and they don't want employees revolting.

Waiting for Tuesday

I was about to make a new thread for everyone waiting for Tuesday to buy a MB or MBP but I thought it would be better to just add on to this one.

So how many of you are going to purchase on Tuesday? I made an appointment at the apple store already, and I can't wait! I'm trying to be realistic about what's going to be in the new MBPs. I'm looking for 2.53 CPU, 4gb ram which I hope is standard but if not I'll order from crucial (hopefully the max is 8 gb of ddr3 ram), the biggest 7200 RPM hd (hopefully 320gb by now), I'm not expecting blu-ray but I would love to have it, and a 9600M GT.

Do any of those things sound unrealistic? Oh, this will be my first Mac. The "halo effect" works, I'm converting because of the original iPhone.

My brother-in-law is going to get a new Macbook, and wants me to go with him to the Apple store on Thursday, if they're in stock.

Since I got my MP last March or so I find that I'm quite content, except maybe longing for updated displays..... But I've given up completely on that. Oh, and a 12" MBP with the same form factor as my Powerbook. But I also gave up on Apple doing that also.

I already own a Mac so nvm the "halo effect". Yes, I am hoping for the 2.53 CPU (You ARE talking about the cheapest option for the 15" ones, right?) 4GB RAM seems too much for Apple to offer for an affordable price, I WILL upgrade to largest hard drive available though.

I intend to buy but not immediately. I'll wait until the first user reports and media reviews are in. And I have to ponder whether I want a Macbook or MBP this time (the Blackbook goes to my wife). :D

Agreed.

Ah, removing the fullsize DVI would be a downer. I'd like to plug my Cintiq in directly and not fuss with adapters like I have to on my current MacBook. If they packaged a DVI to whatever-new-format CABLE with the new MacBooks I'd be happy, but it's probably going to be an adapter. It's just a convenience PITA.

I don't like the MBA/iMac - style black on aluminium, feels like I'm being told "what looks good" when the MBP looks perfect already to me. The illumination's better on current MBPs too - a lot more light leaks out around the keys than with the chiclet-styling of the MBA.

If they incorporate that ugly black border from the iMac too, that'll be even worse. And if it's glossy only.... well, it wouldn't a MacBook Pro, and I'd buy refurb.

In fact If I had the means right this second, I'd go out and purchase a current 2.6 MBP. I've been holding out for a new one for the whole "faster, cheaper" angle, plus improved GPU, perhaps mag latch, user friendly HD bay, larger trackpad etc but seems like there might have to be a tradeoff with the appearance, keys and connectivity I might not like.

Black keys on a MB/MBP....

...horrible. I ownded 3 laptops with black keys. You can see everything on them. a bit handsweat and you see. Who is that design idiot to come up with these ideas.

Dark Grey keys are ok, light grey with black numerals, ok.

Frankly, what distinguished the MBP from all other laptops was the coherent design and the unique keyboard. I loved that.

Ditto that.
