Little OS X Easter Eggs

"We can't be arrested for it as far as I know, but it is definitely
invalid for an interval to have zero length."

The invert screen command is useful since black pixels save power. If you are low on battery life and need to preserve invert the screen. Otherwise like mentioned it is nice for reading since its easier on the eyes.
Are people still falling for this one? :D

It's not true. The LCD screen has a backlight that doesn't shine any more or less bright if the display is showing black pixels. The only way you can make it shine less brght and save your battery is by simply reducing your brightness. The inverted colors is primarily present for people with impaired vision.

Snake and Tetris in Terminal

So, I just found this today. Launch terminal. Type in "emacs". Then press escape. Immediately after, press 'x' and then type in either "snake" or "tetris" (without the quotes, obviously). And what do you know..

It might not be shining any less brightly, but in a dark environment, a black background is much less irritating on the eyes than a white background. A white background is sometimes like sitting looking at a lamp constantly. I prefer black at night when my desk is dark. :)

I just found this reading down the iTunes terms. Read the part that is not in all caps.

As for the cookies, still cant find them, but its probably just me.

On my mini, running Tiger 10.4.11, instead of 22.1 the folder is 21.6

so the path might be: /usr/share/emacs/21.2/etc/COOKIES

BTW, the slider trick is a holdover from Apples' pre-OS X operating systems, and it probably has to do with the control taking all mouse messages until the software processes a mouseup.

I was only arguing about the fact it doesn't save electricity. You're absolutely correct otherwise.

I believe these games are available to any *nix system that has emacs on it. You can also play pong as well!!

Darn..

Thats quite funny.. haha.. I remember reading it a while ago and cracking up!

Darn I don't feel special anymore. :(

I just found out that not only can Macs speak any text, it can also store the audio in an audio file. I just wrote a script which converts a PDF to audio and stores it in iTunes.. Easier revision.. Sweeeet..

Possibly even better than the games, type this into terminal to watch an ascii version of Star Wars Episode IV.

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

The Text Edit icon is just this old Apple commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvn_Ied9t4M

Another great easter egg, if you have a Windows server on your network, it will show a CRT with a BSOD for the icon.

HAHAHA that's pure genius

Not an easter egg but I like keyboard shortcuts to save time and found this one by accident

On a MBP press CTRL + EJECT for options of shutting down/sleep/restart
On my generic keyboard it is CTRL + F12

Thanks for the color inversion tip. I'm using it now and love it...this will be especially nice for night time reading!

Not an easter egg, you're simply telnetting to "towel.blinkenlights.nl". Still cool though.

And in case anyone's wondering, in this version, Han fires first!

None of that revisionist George Lucas crap! ASCII keeps it real!

I read somewhere that if you stare at the "grass" wallpaper long enough a hidden leopard will appear - any truth to this?

ctrl-alt-cmd-8 inverts the colours - any practical reason for this? just looks cool to me.

I love this trick, doing it in PC stores that have a little corner stand for Macs but nobody who actually knows anything about them working there and then watching them run around panicing that it's broke is hilarious!
