Okay, I'm convinced. For the bulk of non-techie users the app store is going to be a godsend. Just that installation process alone will be enough to remove a lot of the fear that still exists from non-technical users.

This Mac App Store thing is good and bad. It all depends on how they integrate it into the Mac. I'll wait until I play with it to pass final judgement on it.

Update - Appstore apps
Update - Cydia apps
Update - Mac apps?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

It's too much.

I think a Mac app store will be a pretty good tool for non-technical people as all they have to do is go to one place to get all the software they need.

The whole "Back to the Mac" thing is really disappointing. I assumed that Steve was talking about bringing new innovations to the Mac, not bringing iOS features over to Mac OS X. :(

Needless to say, I am incredibly disappointed with Steve and Apple.

Ha ha..so you wanted "new features", not "features the Mac doesn't have."

You'll have to explain that one a bit more...

I have no idea what I would do without Expose and Spaces. These better not go away for Launchpad.

ok, launchpad is a quite cool feature.

but does it work with not-app-store-applications as well? mhmhm

Why would a developer want to go through Apple's Mac store to lose 30% of their profit vs selling it directly to people?!

A couple of thoughts ...

- Developers might sell more, because of the tighter integration. It's much easier to make impulse purchases

- There is no saying you can't go and download and install stuff the old fashioned way

Steam proven a big sucses for a store to buy stuff look at the app store its a no brainer apple would do this. this just means better programs/games etc for mac.

Good lord....

....there are a lot of people here that don't know how businesses work and where the costs are.

70/30 can be terrible for certain products; it can be absolutely fabulous for other products. It's not cut and dried.
