Hilarious. So Apple needs to use the absolute fastest/newest/most expensive of every single component in their devices or they're 'behind' in tech? When people see my iPad they're still blown away. They use components that work extremely well together, and end up with a more than sum of its parts product. To me, the iPad is still extremely smooth and fast for my uses, never stuttering or lagging. And next week, a new one will be released with an exponential increase in performance. Reviews of almost every single android tablet I've read complain of lagginess/unresponsiveness, regardless of the chips used. You're not building a multi-thousands dollar gaming rig here with no regard to price/power usage, where the only thing that matters is raw numbers in some benchmark. Apple certainly has done pretty ****ing well with 'out-dated' tech, and its hilarious how you deride them for using such tech in a product that essentially created a new market and has been a phenomenal consumer success. But I guess you've got a thing or 2 to teach them, right. As for the post you quoted:

- Why is 10.1' better than 9.7'? Most ppl are complaining the iPad is too big and comparing it to 7' tablets. The Xoom is better cause its bigger?
- You'd be insane to think that Apple would slightly bump the resolution. You think it would be worth doing so, and forcing devs to rewrite all their iPad1 apps or keeping them the same and having them uglified on the higher rez screen? To redo their entire OS interface? Its a ridiculous expectation. They're up the rez when they can quadruple it, keeping the same aspect ratio and same art, as they did with the iPhone. To do anything before that would not be worthwhile, in terms of cost/benefit ratio.
- Better camera? The camera is meant for video and facetime. Were you planning on using this thing regularly to take photos? And dual LED, wtf? Really? How many people would appreciate/make use of them?

Apple makes decisions which it deems will benefit the majority of consumers, and not the minority. By viewing your ideology, I suspect Apple would be bankrupt if you had anything to do with their decision making process.

Add Raja and Slurpy to my list of Blind Followers... who is next.

Slurpy its simple... if you are talking hardware spec, is the Xoom better or not? Rhetorical

If you are talking software, then what makes the iPad software better than Xooms?

There has always been a small, but vocal, minority on these forums that picks apart everything Apple does, either due to an inherent hatred for Apple, or because Apple can't meet their ridiculously unrealistic expectations.

Not sure exactly what you people wanted. Retina Display wasn't going to happen, it was an unrealistic expectation. Nor were they going to suddenly switch to a 16:9 format.

But here is plenty to be excited about. The new iPads are thinner, lighter, faster, with built-in cameras, better speaker, support for video mirroring, etc. The new OS sounds good and the new apps (especially GarageBand) look great.

But someone always has to be a buzz-kill, whether it is warranted or not. So it might as well be you...

If you value opinions like mine so little - how could I possibly kill your buzz.

If you read my posts - I said that the new iPad is GREAT for someone who doesn't have one yet. But to upgrade at this time - I don't feel the new one offers much (to ME) worthy of that investment.

That doesn't make me a hater. Nor does refuting FUD and other crap that gets thrown around just because I'm not preaching the "gospel" according to Jobs.

You can love Apple products and still be critical. Doesn't make you a hater. Just like someone who speaks positively isn't simply a Fanboy.

But label away.....

So lemme get this straight.. Xoom has the capability and that stuff that WILL be enabled.

Ipad 1 or 2 doesnt.

That makes the XOOM inferior how?

Not inferior, just vapor.

And since I can mount my iPad as a wireless drive on my desktop, I fail to see the benefit of an SD card.

at the same time it is also important to let the people who are trying to decide between an android or ios device why they should pick one over the other.

It looks petty and bullyish to attack and belittle the competition when you got 90%+ of the market.

Now, considering that the majority that actually watched SJ's presentation are fans, and most likely hardcore fans, I doubt either of our points will actually mean that much.
People who watched Steve Jobs will already be looking to buy an Ipad and not an Android tablet. I doubt they need to persuaded in any way.
Most of those who watched Steve Jobs are Apple fans, and they won't care about the petty parts, most of them will probably like it. It's like when Sarah Palin is preaching to her base.

Really when did that change? last week Verizon stated that Motorola was aiming for late may to begin the hardware upgrades but it wasnt a firm target.

My mistake. But they did say within 90 days.. and that it would be free...

http://tablets-planet.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/motorola-xoom-4g-upgrade1.png

You said no timetable - then you said they were aiming for late May. Is this a page from the Apple playbook? LOL.. You know - saying when the white iPhone 4 would be released. I kid.

Point is - you posted knowing that you were being a bit sly. There was a timetable and as you can see from my link - it's pretty firm and within "reason"

HAHA thanks for proving my last post correct.

Ipad 1 or 2 doesnt.

My point wasn't what makes the xoom inferior...its questioning what is supposedly superior about it, seems to me you get the ability to ship your xoom to motorola to be upgraded for your carrier lock-in and trade image quality for an extra 33 pixels per square inch, and will eventually get the capability to spend another $70-$100 to get the same size storage as what is the ipad already has available. Sounds to me that other than the arguably superior connectivity speed (verizon is already having enough scaling problems that its said they will drop their unlimited plan) coming eventually the rest are tradeoffs. How is that confusing?

How is it vapor again? I look at my Xoom and I seen a 4g sim slot and a microsdhc... it is ON A LIVE PRODUCT. how is it vapor?

I know you can, I use to do it with my iPad. Difference with the xoom is I have CHOICE. I can mount wirelessly or wired, bluetooth or sdhc.

You can love Apple products and still be critical.

And I am critical, when it's warranted. But it's simply not, in this case.

What are you going to be critical of? The thinner, lighter body? The faster CPU? The faster GPU? The inclusion of two cameras?

Again, the Retina Display was simply not a realistic expectation.

Your point was that it was essentially a non spec. I pointed out that its a spec that the iPad doesnt have. period.

and LOL at spending more money for more storage. How much more money do you have to spend to go from a 32gb ipad to a 64gb??

The spec sheet is what counts at the end of the day when comparing a Product in terms of technical advancements, and I'm sorry that I'm hurting your feeling by exploring the reality. I'll reiterate, apple pride themselves in bringing the latest technology to the consumer industry, and have failed to so on occasions and the IPad 2 is just an example. Good for you that you still enjoy your iPad but others want to upgrade to something that's worth the 500 dollars. And the iPad 2 is for sure without any doubt not it.

As for the bolder part, LOL! so, are you actually telling me the majority of consumers DO NOT want a retina display, Flash, updated OS, HD FaceTime cam and 1 GB of ram? Yes, They are just the minority, ey?

The bottom line is this. Jobs was spinning this whole thing. Of course Android has less Apps, Apple has a head start on them, of course the Xoom is more expensive it has more tech built in, of course sales figures of less... he misquoted them.

Steve Jobs was in bad form today. Even speaking he wasn't his usual self. At times he fumbled his words and really seemed like he wanted to rush through the keynote.

Spoken like a true spec person. Meanwhile, millions of consumers just don't give a damn about 512 or 1 gig of RAM unless it directly effects the user experience. The experience is what moves a product.

Outside this, and other computer/tech forums? Yes, they are a minority.

The majority of consumers don't have a clue what a retina display is, what flash is used for, or the importance of ram.

The 4g sim slot you refer to doesn't have any hardware behind it yet..its going to have to be shipped to motorola to get it, your sdhd slot is there but doesn't work yet. Thats vapor...when it works and the hardware is there then its real until then its unicorns and rainbows.

Yea LOL....the difference between the 32 to 64 gig is about the same around 75-100 (at walmart for instance its $798) depending on where you buy it. The same on a xoom is going to cost you $800 plus an additional $75-$100 to get the same capability.

iPad3 has got me all over it.

This is a holding move - basic spec bumps that are just enough to hold off the opposition.

The software and Apple eco-system are what beats all other Slablets into the dust, and that will remain.

iPad3 will be the biggie!!

Fixed for you

I don't know whether you keep saying it on purpose as a straw man argument or if somewhere you think I've said something I never said. I have never made any comment on what I expected *and definitely nothing about the display yet you keep talking about it.

And who are you to dictate to me what and what is not "warranted" of criticism. *You don't have to agree. But it's silly of you to project what you think is of value to criticize. *Have I said anything that resembles that anyone who thinks the new iPad is magical is clearly a fan boy. *Or anything remotely like that? No. *Different strokes for different folks. * For me. The "2" isn't worth the update cost based on my use case and the features I'd get by upgrading. *Now tell me I'm wrong about my personal assessment. *

Don't you want what you pay for though? If someone is selling you a Kia Dressed like a Ferrari are you going to pay Ferrari money? Im not saying Apple is a Kia but you get my drift. My biggest issue with the whole "Apple Spec" game is you pay a lot of money for an Apple Logo and Jonny Ives designs.

iPad3 has got me all over it.

Agree. iPad 2 was a big of an "Aw Man!" but that def. will seal the deal for iPad 3 for me. My current iPad will do well for now.

Video Downloads

Anyone know where I can download a HD version of the new iPad videos from Apple? I want to watch them on my HD TV via PS3.

Thanks!

Sorry. I don't agree. Millions of uneducated consumers spend extra money on tv and digital camera specs they will never use or need. They do it because bigger is better. To suggest specs aren't important to the layman is naive

How about you answer this question:

How does "not knowing" things equate to NOT wanting things? I'll let you figure that one out.

And let me guess, the majority of those people that have used an iOS device dont know what flash is? REALLY?

Its not very important in the Apple world. Apple is more than a computer its a fashion statement these days. Not good or bad people just need to understand that Apple fans are a whole different breed (that includes the fan boys who state otherwise.)
