I really like when Apple or any other company puts effort on education, there is no small feature or failed attempt.

Gotta disagree with you. Apple is trying to create a silo for K-12.

It wants to lock students/teachers/administrations into their stack. Sure, the iPad is nice, but this attempt to co-opt poor education markets is disheartening to say the least.

The physics of inductive charging makes this impossible.

Well, not impossible, but somewhere between silly and unreasonable.
Not if they redesigned it. And that’s only one option. They could have it attach to the 3 dot keyboard port on the side, or even have the lightning adapter come out the side. Anything but having it stick out at the bottom.

There is a reason why Apple released an overpriced leather sleeve which has a separate compartment for the Apple Pencil which stores it separately from the iPad. Think about it.

But when you use that you lose the keyboard. They could have made a little a lot in the keyboard (and still make $ off accessories) but that makes too much sense.

It doesn’t matter if A10 mops floor with every single Android tablet. Android tablet is dead... You aren’t compare with Android Tablet.

If this iPad is designed for educational purposes, then this is pretty much out of questions. School with limited budget will look elsewhere.

Otherwise, this iPad is just an annual update anyway... It just happen to have pencil support.

I have both iPad Pros. Still consider them overpriced. Why? If you factor in the price of Apple Smart Keyboard, Pencil, you are getting to laptop price. If Windows laptop do much more than iPad could ever do, then how this is not overpriced?
exactly this. there is nothing new besides the pencil support and looks the same as last year and apple still lost last year to chromebook

The event was pretty much what I expected, but why did they not throw that AirPower into the store along with the other accessories?

I feel like they have some sort of production problem with it, just like they did with the AirPods.

They've been talking about this damned charging mat since last fall.

Over it.

All this “cheaper” framing is all iPad Pro anti-propganda

Tim’s pipeline is LIFO. It came in first, but will get out (if ever) last.
Sadly, the Great Provisioner didn’t bother to shop at IKEA

Am so p**ed with this poor show of an event from an out of touch Apple, for a small school I work for in the UK this all means nothing, I suppose the iCloud extra storage will be good as the only way to manage the sharing of 60 iPads amongst 360 pupils is by using 1 pupil account for all the iPads! thats gets a bit tight with only 5gb:)
Fortunately Google Drive works great on iPad, they all have their own account as its automatically allocated via G-Suite, they can switch google user accounts quite quickly on iPads and because of the huge unlimited storage we use 1 account for the whole school with year group folders. I don't think we are the only school that works this way! No wonder they are about to invest heavily in Chrome Books. It's like Apple completely ignored G-Suite..

Was hoping Apple would introduce a phone in the size of iPhone SE with features of iPhone X and call it
iPhone SEX!

They make me sad

Would really like to see some improvements to iWork for iOS (and Mac) to better compete with Office and a more advanced Swift editor for iPad. Could fit very nicely into an education event, but it's complete speculation on my part so not holding my breath.

The update I would like to see — third party plug in support — is not likely to ever happen with “iWork” or “iLife”

google already took share from apple who think price/keyboard/screen size/manageability is important and now they are after the market who think they need a tablet by also giving all the important things they care about.
if you think this device is going to make people buy ipad then you might be wrong because last year apple didnt convince enough school to buy ipad and nothing has changed this year

I love how far off Apple is in their own universe with this presentation. You have demos of prep school students in rich private schools using the iPad for niche examples where it's useful, while totally ignoring the vast majority of public schools around the world, and in real world use cases.

The district I teach in has been 1:1 with iPads since the iPad 2 and we're a public school district... The lower price and the use of the Pencil is a huge boost for us... Kids have been requesting a "good" stylus and while the "pencil" may not be perfect it's certainly better than anything else.

I think this'll sell quite well. Adding Apple Classroom to laptops is gonna be huge. It's a great classroom mgmt tool. I use it daily.

As a coach, using coaches eye w/ the pencil will be tremendous!

I think this'll sell quite well...

IMHO

Do any of these companies talk to teachers??? The killer device is a touchscreen with smart stylus support with a keyboard in a clamshell laptop design for under $350. On top of that, it needs a management solution for the classroom (not IT) that is not a huge extra cost.
this is where chromebook absolutely nailed it and the reason why its popular. now they are just after the ipad market with the chromebook tablet

I really like when Apple or any other company puts effort on education, there is no small feature or failed attempt.

Chromebooks are too cheap and versatile for most of the K-12 market to ignore. Cost is King in education and Apple couldn't care less about meeting Chromebooks on their terms

Not if they redesigned it.
As I said, the physics of inductive charging makes this unreasonable. This relates to Faraday’s law: The ideal solution for inductive charging devices is a large planar inductive coil in both the sender and the receiver with the maximum possible number of turns inside the plane, which is exactly what the Qi charging standard dictates. If you can tell me how one can fit a large, planar coil inside (presumably) the edge of an iPad or the interior of an Apple Pencil, I’m sure that’d get you somewhere high up in physics.

Until then, Apple cannot redesign its way out of the laws of physics.

Why did you expect a phone announcement at an event held in a school? That’s on you.
Don't people at schools make phone calls? And if so, do they usually use cell phones or landlines ?

I would go android for that price and have better specs and screen than the 3 years old SE. The difference between iOS and Android isn’t that big anymore and in many ways Android has a better GUI than iOS. Never thought I would ever say that o_O
t#There is no high end small android phone, just cheap crap.

hoping apple to launch iPhone se 2

I don't see Apple ever releasing an update to the iPhone SE, I think the iPhone SE suffered the same fate as the iPhone 5c...it's a one-time product that probably didn't live up to Apple's sales goals or just wasn't a fit for them in the long term.

The iPhone SE was released March 31, 2016 and it's currently March 27, 2018 with no updated SE. I think if Apple was going to continue with the SE line they would have released one last year.

Also I don't see Apple releasing any iPhone every again with a headphone jack so if you want something close to the size of the SE you may as well go with the iPhone 8 which is what I believe Apple is thinking and why they don't see a need for the SE.
