So sad that they didn't do a modest upgrade to the MacBook Air. It would not have taken much (IPS display, smaller bezel, force touch track pad, etc.), and they probably could have kept the $1,000 price point. Apple just doesn't understand how an entry level laptop drives future customer base....HS/College students for example. I have seen it first hand with my kids.

Hugely shortsighted on their part.

Air is dead. Macbook and the new Pro are already thinner.

Not cheaper, but thinner.

Once my 2015 15" MBP dies, I think it's time to move to Windows. I already have an SP3 and Windows is an amazing OS again. Theres some great hardware being produced in the PC world these days.

I can state new Mac Pro's, iMac's, and display's have been waiting in the shadows. I posted this explanation yesterday but will trim it down as it's a read.

Intel's constant delays of "assured" CPU releases benched new Mac prototypes. Numerous delays prompted the decision to release new MacBook's before the holiday season. Updated desktop systems will be released next year as some models require Intel's improvements in integrated graphics while other models will offer professional level BTO options with dedicated GPU's and server class CPU's. Refreshed displays with possible dedicated GPU's have also been developed. Waiting for CPU and GPU advancements has been a hurdle for production cycles, most notably the "X" nomenclature replacing "E" and "K" CPU's.

Skylake-X and Kaby-X
In June, Intel announced ditching the E and K nomenclature in succeeding the Broadwell-E chips with the introduction of "X" for its Skylake and Kaby Lake processors. Unfortunately, constant delays meant benched Mac's. Primary interests were Thunderbolt 3, improved integrated graphics and 4K+ support, Xeon E3-1500 v5 server chips, etc. We held back as Kaby Lake was on track for a Q2 2016 launch with "X" variants in June promised no later than Q3.

In August, Intel announced Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X would be shelved until late 2017. Some close to the situation claimed Cook channeled Jobs' level of anger as Apple began seeing declines waiting for Intel to get it together. Rumor mills suggest a possible move towards in-house production for crucial components (CPU's) while introducing high-end dedicated GPU display components with new production lines.
The Xeon E5-1650 v4 just came out recently, though. The E5-1650 is what they used in the 2013 Pro. They could've upgraded the CPU AND the GPUs in the trashcan, and made a lot of people happy.

ipad and wristbands. 5 years ago I loved Apple and was proud of their offerings. Today I started to hate the brand. I'm so angry and disappointed. I'm in for a new iMac. But buying an Apple product now is like giving away your earned and saved money to a bad car salesman.

Or maby wait until they upgrade the desktop computers, today was a laptop event to show the new macbook that everyone already knew everything about because the leaks ^^

I think they'll sell them to App developers only since you've to use Xcode for developing apps. Once every 3-4 years you'll want a new computer/laptop. The offerings Apple is making now are not for the average consumer anymore. I hope/thrust the Chinese manufacturers will introduce the same laptops at 25% of the price next month, maybe even before apple's notebook ships. 4 Years for this :(

Just one; native audio doesn't turn back on after sleep. But it doesn't matter, I use USB speakers so it's all good. Otherwise, the thing is amazing. I've had it running for 45 straight days and 50% of the time it's been converting 1080p videos in Handbrake.

So impressive!! Maybe I'll have a desktop hackintosh on the side for video work, so I can get a cheaper, less-powerful laptop for on-the-go

You know, if they had a multi-touch display, they wouldn't need that stupid touch bar. I would imaging Final Cut Pro would be more useful if you could swipe through the timeline on the screen. Imagine that?

Oh yeah, screen full of fingerprints, sounds great... also with no brace behind it so it pushes back every time you touch it.

Funny, but the screen on my Precision 5510 doesn't smudge and the hinge doesn't push back. Perhaps that is just an Apple problem?

:D

HahahHahahahahahaha at all those 'special people' on here yesterday moaning how expensive the new Microsoft Studio is....

First off I don't like comparing these 2 products. They're obviously aimed at different markets. Apple clearly has the DJ market sewn up forever.

Second, a fully loaded MBP has 4 Thunderbolt USB-C ports while Surface Studio has 4 USB 3.0 ports. Apple always trumps on I/O.

Just agreed with my daughter to buy her the "old" 13.3" MacBook Pro with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 512GB Flash Storage and Magsafe, SD card reader, and real USB ports for £50 less than the newly announced base model (which ahs a slower processor and half the size of SSD. She was not impressed by the keyboard on the MacBook so worried what this new one would be like, and the "old model" is much more useful with all those ports.

For the same reason, when my MacBook Pro, which is my work machine, is on the way out I will now be looking to Windows - hopefully in a few years - as the new ones are just proof of the dumbing down by Apple.

So, there's been a few posts here from people that have tried to justify this.

- "It has 10 hours battery life"
- "The SSD's are 2x faster."
- etc.

Basically just repeating Apple's justification. Well, all I can say to those people is that Apple obviously forgot to wake you up before they go-go, because they've definitely left you hangin' on like a yo-yo (Wham!).

Look at this way, it's been a long time since a Macbook update. You're sitting in an Apple design meeting and brain (?) storming on ideas that will help make the long wait for a new product appear worth it to your customers. Someone pitches the Touch Bar and it's the only thing on the table. The team starts to get behind the new Touch Bar. It can display emojis! Suddenly, the design team realizes they've got a hit. Sure, it's not a home run...but it's better than offering up nothing more than processor updates and new colors for the case...so they run with it.
If they hadn't done the price gouging, I'd be a buyer if the keyboard is really improved.

Things that I can come up with, without being paid top $$$ by apple: touch screen or a pen for the screen with no real touch or a 360 flip screen, or an eInk keyboard... I can go on with more actual features that are not silly gimmicks

The worry was this event would showcase just how lost Apple is now under Cook.

I didn't think it would show they were in such bad shape in terms of ideas and products.

Surely a quick video to show off the touch panel would have been better rather than a 90 minute worldwide demonstration of how you've run out of ideas?

That's what I'm planning on doing. I wouldnt mind a used 11in MacBook Air... just need something small and light on the go but I can do all my real work at home with my pro machine. Works well considering I dont have to lug around a heady laptop and stuff.

The Surface PC out-Ives Jon Ive. So why is Ives still there??? He's the CEO of Removal. Remove features, remove ports.... we need BETTER... not THINNER.

I would liken the new MS desktop design to the iMac with the swivel screen. I feel pretty torn because I started as an MS user back in the 90s and then switched to Macs in the late 90s. Now i'm left with a strange abandonment feeling, as if apple has forgotten about me, all the while MS is over there innovating.

However I did just pre-order the new MacBook Pro. Why? Because well i've been using a 2008 uni-body macbook pro that apple has now stopped supporting. Also its running a core 2 duo CPU at 2.5Ghz. Ive been waiting for years now for an update to their Macbook pros and this is the best its gonna get from apple.

Even the touchbar isn't original Aplle idea. There was a Russian oled keyboard already.
