Being familiar with both I'll say you just don't know how to use it so enjoy your OSX and get the new awesome emoji bar machine ;)

Hahaha. That's funny. You're "familiar" with both?

I'm a systems admin dude. I provide support to over a hundred users of both macOS and Windows (along with ubuntu, rhel, and scientific linux) on a daily basis.

Windows causes way more issues than any of the other operating systems. It's not even close.

At this stage I would clean house and maybe hire that Panay guy from MS, he's been doing a bang up job with the Surface line.

I saw the Panay clip yesterday and was impressed. He went about his business cutting through the BS getting to the point on how the new system worked. What's interesting is that Microsofts' keynotes, for the most part, have a business like approach as if they were in the boardroom. They took things seriously.

While Apple is turning their keynotes into a carnival of sorts. It's tragic that they have to focus on hyping the one feature, the Fool Bar, on how effective the workflow would be. It was obvious they were using it as a short cut and to emulate the iOS feature into the laptop. It just defeats the purpose of the UI of OS X when using the trackpad ( or mouse ).

They could've gone the touchscreen route instead of the Fool Bar. I have to admit that Microsoft and Nintendo are doing a nice job with their new systems coming up and it shows they're not screwing around. Sure, the Surface PC is expensive and I understand it due to the large screen estate, plus the new pen has a higher pressure sensitivity level. M$ has the right idea when it comes to true productivity on the Surface.

And I found it really funny in how Angela Arendts seems to have out-dressed her execs in the front row, if you look at today's keynote clip. She always dresses like she means business. She was wrong for Apple but for Microsoft, I could see that. She has the corporate attitude.

So, the Cookie Monster and his crew needs to be cleaned out from their offices. Like, pronto. That was embarassing. And not to mention if you look carefully that most of the Apple execs are in their 50s and almost out of touch while some of the M$ execs are under 50 ( if I'm not mistaken ).

Hats off to Panos Panay's presentation. He was pro unlike Schiller or others. I think I know why Jony always has recorded videos of him instead of being live on stage. I strongly believe he's introverted ( nothing wrong with that. So am I. Takes one to know one ) and that he probably has great difficulty talking in front of a live crowd than a smaller one.

Honestly I don't get what the big deal is. Apple sells about 18-20 million Macs/year regardless of the competition. So far no Windows OEM has proven they can take a huge chunk out of those sales. Until that happens, Apple can do whatever the f*** they want.

do people just post on this board to rip on apple? Seems pointless and a waste of time.

A lot of us are posting here because we used to like Apple and the products they made. They fit into our lives very well. Now Apple has lost it and slowly I'm noticing that Apple products are being replaced.

I've used an iPhone ever since it came on my carrier. Then when they had their feud with Google and made it difficult for me to get my Gmail or forced me to use Apple Maps, I got an Android.

All my computers were Macs, but I couldn't justify the price point for the trash can as my primary computing (read gaming) device so I built a desktop on my own.

Now, I am looking to replace my MacBook with a non-Mac because I can't justify buying a new MacBook.

Based on what I am seeing, lots of long time Apple users are saying the same.

Johnny Ive lets his designs speak for him. His designs have made Apple half a trillion bucks?

Wow, I just watched the part of the keynote where they announced the pricing, you can dfpefinitely sense an air of uncomfortableness when they announced the prises, Phill seemed to stutter a little, as though he was expecting applause.
Reminds me when Cook announced a 12 THOUSAND dollar watch with a mass produced in a Chinese sweat shop 5 dollar mechanism!

And Phill actually says he believes his team have deigned the best laptop for their 'professional' customers you can buy!!

How could that be? On one system people sending pumpkin emojis on the other figuring out airflow on a winglet when put under extreme conditions using software so complicated that needs networks of CPU farms to even understand the data.
My small business with 25 people uses a tiny render farm of 112 machines all running windows and I don't see that many issues that are OS based. Yet it's for video games / ads but still lol.
So maybe it's the stupid that uses the system that is the problem not the system itself?
Plus you should be happy for MS in your scenario otherwise you will be out of a job! haha

Oh I agree. Almost every problem is user error. Apple just does a better job of building software for the average person so they're less prone to running in to stupid problems. Windows server platform in my experience is much more stable than their desktop OS's. We used 2008 R2 up until recently and it was rock solid. But most of our users that do serious computation use Linux.

I'm honestly considering building a hackintosh myself for home/hobby use since the Mac Pro is DOA. The MBP works great for me at work or on the road but it isn't the best when I'm trying to edit 30mb+ cr2 files.

I was pretty surprised that Apple referenced it's past. That usually never happens and is another indicator that next years iPhone anniversary will be an event.
I don't agree. It simply means that in order to make the newly announced MBP look better they had to compare it to their first notebook.

I don't think it is a sign of them doing anything different. This past week was the 15th anniversary of the iPod and Apple was completely silent.

Yet Apple owns 90% of PC profits because premium is where all the money is made. That's what Microsoft + OEMs are after. The profits. As long as Apple dominates the profits they're sitting pretty.

I'm very sad to say this:

I think we have seen the death of Apple. Microsoft has usurped them as of yesterday. The keynote today filled me with dismay. I have been a shareholder since 2010 and made a lot of money. I am considering my options now.

There is a time for everything. A time to live, and a time to die. Rest in peace, Apple. I loved you.

When did you love Apple? You have been hating on this forum for years, been kicked off Appleinsider and singlehandedly liked every negative post about Apple. Maybe it is time to leave this forum now you have abandoned Apple. Thank you.

What Apple need is a good swift kick in the arse. Maybe this device will take care of it. Imagine if they have to respond by reducing the price.

True, but the situation has changed. In recent years, companies like Microsoft, HP or Asus have comitted it seems to copying the Apple formula of offering "classy" hardware, priced accordingly. The designs have changed, the materials, the advertising, the price point, the hardware/software integration too. This "upscaling" is their answer to declining PC sales and an eroding "middle" of the market. Sure you can argue they are only arriving where Apple was in 2010. Sure you can argue that Jobs' verdict that a tablet convertible trying to please everyone will be great at nothing. And I would most likely agree.

Problem is that with Apple trying to be the Bang & Olufsen of the computer world many potential customers have no problem with that ...

I think that's because the iPod isn't really an product line they put much thought into anymore. I think they'll make a HUGE deal out of the iPhone anniversary.

Which is why I just don't get where the "PRO" comes from in this macbook.
We use two last gen MBP's for code compiling since we have to and I like them but I guess I was hoping that MAYBE this time that "PRO" will actually mean something.
Especially after yesterdays Surface Studio presentation where two of my designers literally ran to my office begging for it lol. We'll put them into extensive use as soon as they arrive so we will see but at least that one got me excited ;)

Just got home and reviewed the summary. I was waiting patiently for a new iMac and !
Was going to consider the MacBook Pro and scrolled to the price vs specs. You have to be kidding me. $1800 for 13" and 8gb RAM because it has a touch bar. There is just no value in that at all.
I imagine we'll see a similar price hike when they eventually update the iMac.
Disappointing and underwhelming.

I have no idea what is Apple's game plan. Until now, I thought they were trying to push into enterprise/corporate market with their laptops. But if that is so, then why add the stupid touch bar. Which company wants people to have a laptop with touch bar for their professional work. And then, they show the DJ stuff.. really? That's what is the selling point for this laptop.

I am just at total loss now.

I'm OK with the MBP update. Not a huge fan of the Touch Bar, but whatever. Having a 2TB SSD option is nice; still being restricted to 16GB stinks; and 4 USB-C/TB3 ports doesn't cut it. One will always be used by the charger, so that leaves me with 3. I leave a tiny USB stick in one (not sure what would happen with that), and often use the others for wired networking (crappy WiFi connection in the bowels of hockey rinks), another for a CompactFlash reader, another for an external drive... The new MacBook Pros should have at least 6 USB-C connectors. Yes, I could haul a hub with me in addition to all of the dongles & cables.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a new Mac Pro. I'm disappointed that nothing came. The most interesting thing for me today was the new LG monitor. I wanted to hear more about that and actually see it. Oh well, I'm off to see what upgrades I should put in my 2009 cMP.

I'm surprised AAPL didn't drop more.
