I got as far as to select color then size then it took me to accessory page where I go "error on page" and it stopped doing anything. Went to cart. Not there. Start over!

Too many quotes for me to reply to. Some of us work, ya know.

1)Retina has been out for awhile in other Apple products...screen resolution is typically something that is enhanced every or every other product cycle at Apple and other similar product companies. Why you or anyone else thinks/thought that the 3.0 wasn't going to be retina is beyond me. Minutes after the iPad 2.0 came out, everyone was stating "well, guess we wait till 2012 to see Retina in iPad".

2)Does Cook's phrase "mind-blowing" from a few weeks ago ring a bell? He did not mention specifically the iPad 3.0 would be mind-blowing but to me, this update is far from mind-blowing. Nice new tech specs, little real-world features. This is why I was stating there was no awe-shock in this release.

I honestly can't think of a lot of mind-blowing features or ultra-cool stuff that COULD HAVE BEEN in this update...that's for Apple to produce and wow me. Overall I think this update is non-impressive other than Retina (so now I can see my 10 year old, much-higher-rez-than-ipad2-quality-1024x768-screen JPGs on a nicer screen). If you don't own an iPad yet, sure, go buy this one next week instead of the 12 month old 2.0...with the exact same features as 2.0 but with a faster CPU and a nicer screen. Tech Spec product updates like this, in a brand new market, are not a sign of "revolutionary". The competitors now have a full year to work on FEATURES that will challenge the iPad 2012 and 2013.

Its not revolutionary, only resolutionary. Going from iPad (original) to iPad (new) is a worthwhile upgrade. However, not from iPad 2.

No.. as far as I see, it says preorder and pick up at your nearest Apple retail store and also says "We'll get you set up". Honestly do not know how Apple's preorder system works..

I would be more worried about them not doing preordering to stores than shipped to your house, you can definitely have one shipped.

I was able to order mine 32gb Wifi Black using the App Store app before the site died again. Received confirmation email right when the site shut down. So it is indeed possible to order.

wonder when they will open the store... argh, I can't live with old piece of crap technology. i must have the latest and greatest :p

Cloud computing is supposed to make it easy to grow/reduce the amount of resources made available. Obviously, either this is not true or Apple does not know cloud computing well enough.

It's not that hard considering Rackspace or the like can lease out a cloud slice for a few cents to a dollar or more per hour to push out extra resources to keep the servers from being busy. The extra sales will make up the costs in ordering.

This is what they get for dumping the xserver line. Running your store on minis, indeed! So glad I am not in Apple's IT department right now.

So I guess, none of you can wait a couple of days to order it?

People who can wait will wait... I sold my iPad2 (actually my wife's) in preparation for the upgrade. So... I have to order it (wife's constant bitching about not having iPad is getting annoying)

And not just iPod lines, but Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, Macbook Air... It's not as big of a shock as everyone is making it out to be. I honestly get tired of the 3g, 3gs, 4, 4s and I don't like the direction of it being 1,2, 3,4,5.

So it works fine to retain a name for a new version of computer. Nobody gets confused.

The big problem for iOS devices is retaining the old model for sale alongside the new one. When doing that, there does need to be some naming separation.

Perhaps there is still ongoing discussion inside Apple on resolving this problem and they haven't come to an agreement on a sensible solution?????

Maybe they just need to call the new device the single name and call the legacy/low cost device something different.

iPad/iPhone Retro/Classic/<numbered>/<year>/etc

Quite shocking that its still offline. Dont think we've had an outage this long during preorder before :/

They also need to increase thier Akamai caching on thier site and add it to thier store. Rackspace on their origin server would need to be beefed up for the actual ordering.
