Does anyone know at this stage if the iPad 2 cases will fit? I'm upgrading from iPad 1 and I want to buy an odoyo aircoat for my new one, but I don't know if the form factor of the new iPad is identical enough to allow it to fit?

Not sure how many of you got this far when the store was briefly up....but....

In the cart it said something to the effect of "32gb wifi iPad (3rd generation)"

So that should put to rest the "new" in the new name.

Also, I called 15 min ago and a lady said that as long as the online store is down, they will not accept orders over the phone. She added that the store should be back up in "about an hour".....her words.

Just some info I got :)

Looking forward to my first Apple device :)

sadly I don't think you are being honest with yourself.

Too many quotes for me to reply to. Some of us work, ya know.

1)Retina has been out for awhile in other Apple products...screen resolution is typically something that is enhanced every or every other product cycle at Apple and other similar product companies. Why you or anyone else thinks/thought that the 3.0 wasn't going to be retina is beyond me. Minutes after the iPad 2.0 came out, everyone was stating "well, guess we wait till 2012 to see Retina in iPad".
Show me one product on the market with a screen this size with this sort of resolution. I'm not sure how you can't see this as a major achievement for Apple.
2)Does Cook's phrase "mind-blowing" from a few weeks ago ring a bell? He did not mention specifically the iPad 3.0 would be mind-blowing but to me, this update is far from mind-blowing. Nice new tech specs, little real-world features. This is why I was stating there was no awe-shock in this release.
do you really expect ti to be as mind blowing as the original iPad introduction? Seriously I don't understand how you could honestly believe that something that has been on the market could in fact be updated in such a way as to be mind blowing. It is an established product now, at best all Apple can do is throw new technology at it.
I honestly can't think of a lot of mind-blowing features or ultra-cool stuff that COULD HAVE BEEN in this update...that's for Apple to produce and wow me.
Your problem is you have zero appreciation for the engineering effort that goes into delivering something like iPad with a retina screen. World wide I wouldn't be surprised to find out that thousands of engineers have been working to realize the technology in iPad 3 in the quantities that Apple needs.
Overall I think this update is non-impressive other than Retina (so now I can see my 10 year old, much-higher-rez-than-ipad2-quality-1024x768-screen JPGs on a nicer screen). If you don't own an iPad yet, sure, go buy this one next week instead of the 12 month old 2.0...with the exact same features as 2.0 but with a faster CPU and a nicer screen.
Hardware wise it is ALL NEW, what about this do you not get? That is a new screen and new SoC along with new radios for communications. Sure new standards for RF communications are boring but this is the freshest 4G hardware you can get right now.
Tech Spec product updates like this, in a brand new market, are not a sign of "revolutionary". The competitors now have a full year to work on FEATURES that will challenge the iPad 2012 and 2013.

I still think you need to readdress your evaluation of this iPad. It is a major update for even iPad2 owners.

sometimes the die-hard fans leave me speechless

People who can wait will wait... I sold my iPad2 (actually my wife's) in preparation for the upgrade. So... I have to order it (wife's constant bitching about not having iPad is getting annoying)

If the Ipad was so useful, why would you sell it and deal with days to weeks of "no Ipad"?

It's so inconsistent to say that something is an essential part of your life (so shallow as well, but that's a different topic) - yet be willing to be without the "essential" thing for a significant time based on rumours that mayber something new will be released.

If I were your wife, I'd do a lot more than "bitch".... (or a lot less) ;)

I'm getting in a strop now...gimmi my ipad Apple. I've been without one since I sold the iPad 1 in early Feb :(

I just managed to order 2 64GB Verizon models over the phone.
I called about 20 times straight and kept getting the "we are too busy to take your call right now" msg and finally got put on hold for about 20 min. Not too bad all in all. I'm stoked! :D

photos can now be deleted from photo stream
camera shortcut now always visible
camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
redesigned camera app for ipad
updated at&T network indicator
addresses bugs affecting battery life

iOS 5.1

haha, so true.

How much RAM???

Several people have posted a question about the RAM, but I have not yet seen information about how much RAM the new iPad has. Have I missed something? Or has it not been told by Apple? And if not, perhaps that possible under-communication by Apple means that it is the same as the RAM in iPad 2? Anyone who knows?

You're looking at it through a techie lens. He's looking at it through a non-tech savvy consumer lens, which is totally fair. People have already seen Retina, so it's no longer "magical". Your average customer doesn't care about the tolerances needed to put all the pieces together.

The main reason why the iPad sells is the apps, not the hardware. Faster specs mean better apps.

Gotta be more than the iPad 2. One of the presenters said it had more RAM than the PS3 and Xbox 360, and I think the 360 has 512MB. I'd guess "The New iPad" is bumped up to 1GB.

Good question. I don't think anything was officially mentioned regarding the RAM.

Not even the live blogs asked during the presentation?

Strange. I would imagine a little bit of a bump. Hopefully at least 1gb with that new quad core proc.
