You really don't have to update just cause they do. I am still rocking an iPad 1 and 1st generation iphone! LOL! Both work fine, only just updated to an iphone 5 cause now my 1st gen is pretty much obsolete...

Sorry, is he basically saying "iPad and Android are different".

The way I'm reading this should shut the muppets up who think Android copies iOS - clearly they dont ;)

I was hoping for retina, didn't care for the thinner design. And would have preferred they kept optical drive.

The craziest thing is that optical media is literally not dead. CD and DVD is dying, but Blu-Ray is the new form of optical media. The fact that Apple continues to pretend it doesn't exist is the most mystifying thing that has ever happened in the world of technology.

Wow the iPad mini is going to utterly destroy the nexus.

Great to see Apple do a side by side comparison.

Brilliant move bringing out an iPad 4 with a better chip at the same price to position the mini with a good price.

I guess the iPad 2 has to be dumped.

You just used the term "obsolete" to describe the older divice, which it isn't. It's really funny how so many people allow new Apple products to upset them.

I don't get it. Is it emotional, some sort of contract? if i buy something new from you i want it to be the latest and greatest for at least a year or i am not buying it...?? What in the world drives people's thinking.

i honestly dont understand how they can justify dropping the optical drive just to make it thinner. are you gonna carry around your desktop?

Just another thing to have to get replaced when it fails. On a desktop an external is no big inconvenience. I can see retaining the optical in the MBPs,otherwise you can end up needing a breakfast tray or something to hold your whole "laptop" setup if you need to be using external DVD. For the iMac, the internal does seem like excess baggage. Good for Apple. A little brave, maybe, but sensible. It's time.

That iPad Mini looks kinda ugly to be honest. It looks awkwardly wide and the icons look terrible. Lots of open space to do nothing with. I may reconsider buying one, unless they surprise me with the price....

I feel a lawsuit coming....

Ipad mini looks very similar, wouldn't want people accidentally buying one.

So lets see if Samsung sues Apple for copying the smaller formfactor tablets... Oh wait, Samsung is a decent company and won't do that.

Which is the way the hipsters think, which is why many of them are so mad right now.

Exactly.

A device becomes "obsolete" when it stops working with newer software or accessories, not simply when there's something better out.

A titanium PowerBook is obsolete because it can't run the latest version of OS X or new apps. iPad 3 isn't obsolete because it still runs all the latest software and works with the same accessories.

The amount of BlueRay's being sold pales in comparison to DVD's in the same period after release. You can not argue that it is sunsetting.

YOU dish out 1000 bucks Canadian on a piece of hardware and have it obsoleted in under a year and see how that feels. No, it didn't get slower, but this is why I left Android. I thought at least I could get a year out of new stuff.

How dare they utilise new technology, those bastards
