I bet there will be more iPad Mini sold than The New iPad, since ppl got "The Old New iPad 3" which is I believe not bad at all atm.

Time for Macbook from 2008 to finally get a breather, and time for me to say hello to Mac Mini 2012.
Now, if only Apple would open the store again and let me give them all my money.

Applecare Plus $50 to get a new one???

So the lineup is iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad (not keeping iPad 3 around).

If we take adavantage of our $50 breakage, I am assuming we get the iPad 4th Generation?

Please Understand

Yeah? How's that?

Does the iPad 3 do any less than it did when you bought it?
What features have been removed from the iPad 3 today?

The only way it's "obsolete" is if you feel the need to have the latest and greatest purely for the sake of having the latest and greatest.

Apple has a tradition of updating there mobile iDevices every year, of course.. The iPad 3 isn't obsolete, but seriously.. They can't wait until next year to release the 4th Generation?

It's just too soon in my opinion..

Nothing like making my 7 month old iPad go from The New iPad to The Old iPad, for shame Apple, for shame. And comparing a $199 device to a $329 device was slightly sad in my opinion.

Exactly.

One of the things that drew me to Apple was refusal to play the Android game of "A-new-revision-every-2-weeks". Exaggerating of course but it seems like every time I turn around we're on a new, revised android device. I LIKED that Apple only came out with something about once every year... gave me piece of mind knowing that my shiny *new* toy will remain NEW for at least a year...

With this... not so anymore. And on that note, I will NOT be buying a new iPad nor a new iPad mini. In fact, I'll be surprised if we ever buy another iPad for ourselves.

All the things I listed are called natural progressions. That's how technology works ... things can get smaller, lighter, faster, etc.

You said it yourself, anyone who knows Apple would have expected that... does that sound innovative to you?

A poster above made a good point that there are innovations in engineering to accomplish a thinner product that can still operate faster, etc

But I think a true innovation this year would have dealt with Apple TV enhancements and changing the television experience as Steve was quoted as saying in his book.

I can stream my iPad screen to my TV using the current Apple TV.

So let's say Apple does get around to putting functionality in a TV so I don't need the iPad to do it.

Wow. So then I could do the same things without picking up an iPad? So "innovation" means I can "do the same things as now but my iPad can stay on my table?"

That's not particularly innovative either by your own lofty standards for the word.

And that's what they call a buying opportunity. Load up on AAPL stock, this is the lowest it'll be for quite some time. There were some earnings previews in Cook's comments, and I'm betting you're going to see a big blowout quarter when they report results. 200 million iPads sold. More iPads sold in the last quarter than competitors entire lines of PC's.

Just tuning in. This is insane. So they upped the price point of the largest tablet, so they could make the mini ipad the same price of the large ipad??? This is the last thing I expected. I HATE to say it and don't want to, but if Steve was around, this wouldn't have happened.

??? The new iPad is the same price as before.

I watched that on my macbook pro with a 100mb connection and it was a technical nightmare! Stopping and stuttering every ten seconds and going out of sync.

I don't think they've finished ironing out the kinks in iTunes 11, or else he wouldve announced its release today

Not attacking you or anything, but what would you liked to have seen as an innovation that can actually be used now? What are the missing features from the iPhone5, the iPad 3 or 4? What is missing from the iMac or Mac Mini?

I could be snarky about the iMac and say an optical drive :p

But to your point, nothing about those products seems lacking.

I literally have all the ones you listed (and a Macbook Air) and they all do exactly what I need them for. The new products announced are all great and great evolutionary steps forward.

That doesn't live up to innovation in my book, guess my standards are too high, but I think something that is innovative as something revolutionary that changes some peoples' lives in a significant fashion.

I saw the iPhone as innovative, I saw the iPad as innovative ... after that its been all evolutionary progressions. Which is fine. If they didn't claim they would deliver an "innovative year" in 2012

That new iMac is so thin. The first question that popped into my mind was, does that mean we can't update the RAM ourselves anymore? Looks like the little trap door under the 'chin' is gone. Hmmm. Would suck if it's soldered on and only upgradeable via build-to-order. Apple charges ridiculous prices for RAM.

Oops! Update. Spoke too soon. Just checked the tech specs on the Apple Store and it says the following:

"8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory;four user-accessible SO-DIMM slots"

Awesome! :)

TBH that iMac has basically everything I want from a Mac Pro at this point. I was waiting to upgrade my 2008 Mac Pro in 2013, but I might as well go ahead and buy an iMac already in December. The only downside for me is losing the 30" display to a 27" one. So only that can hold me back, but the processor and the GPU (GTX685MX isn't even out yet, but GTX675MX is very powerful so can't even imagine how GTX685MX will perform) are fast enough. And RAM was also holding me back, but now that we can do a 32GB one, that's what I was planning for my Mac Pro anyway.

What total and utter nonsense.

Seagate Momentus XT = 4 GB SSD.
Fusion Drive = 128 GB SSD.

Seagate Momentus XT = low intelligence read cache. No improvement at all when writing data.
Fusion Drive = MacOS X decides intelligently what data goes where.
8 GB now on the XT and not just limited to the iMac. A keynote is nice but without the algorithm it is still handwaving magic or better yet it is just rebranded Intel technology. Apple is really the only company that could pull off something nice in-house but I still have my doubts.

No new iTunes

I was nearly certain that Apple would use today's event to quickly mention that they are releasing the new iTunes. If they are still sticking to the October launch date that is. Maybe it might just appear at one point during this week without any significant announcement.

Stock ALWAYS drops after an announcement. And then it rises again. Really it's a no-brainer investment.

An "all-in-one" for what particular audience, exactly? Your definition is obviously different than mine. The iMac without an ODD will certainly carry my work from day to day without a hitch. Therefore, it is certainly still an "all-in-one" to me. Apple has to go with trends, and the current trend is a decline in use of optical disc technology.

Still not quite an all in one for current tech, dvds and blu-rays are still current, Apple seems to forget that.

That isn't even worth $329 in my opinion. As hard as it is to believe, the Nexus 7 actually has much better hardware.

Basically, you're paying a premium for access to Apple's arguably better app store.

I would wait for confirmation before getting excited. Those Apple Store descriptions have been wrong on occasion. Like when they said the iPhone 5 came with a dock adapter.
