Nothing like making my 7 month old iPad go from The New iPad to The Old iPad, for shame Apple, for shame. And comparing a $199 device to a $329 device was slightly sad in my opinion.

Seven months isn't exactly young in computing world. Besides, the iPad 4 really just is a spec bump of the processor. I doubt it is worthy of an upgrade. And I have the iPad 3 and use it every day.

I'm disappointed that iPad Mini doesn't have A6 processor though. I'm not sure why it doesn't except maybe cost and lack of access to those processors since the iPhone 5 is using them in huge volumes.

I saw the iPhone as innovative, I saw the iPad as innovative ... after that its been all evolutionary progressions. Which is fine. If they didn't claim they would deliver an "innovative year" in 2012

Tbh, iPad was innovation but the iPhone was a revolution. So I think everything they talked about today fits into the innovation category for me, which covers a broad range imho. They won't be coming out with an industry changer like the iPod or the iPhone every year obviously, and to call everything else "spec bump" seems unfair to me.

Just tuning in. This is insane. So they upped the price point of the largest tablet, so they could make the mini ipad the same price of the large ipad??? This is the last thing I expected. I HATE to say it and don't want to, but if Steve was around, this wouldn't have happened. Granted, he may have done something similar, but no where near this pricing tier. There's no point in a mini now. How the heck could the lowest mini be 300 bucks? Apple's officially cooked. All of their products are suffering. Without vision, you can't see where you're going. Design isn't everything. They have definitely sold themselves . . I can see this being my last post in the rumors, I'm about to delete my account. They are declining and declining. This isn't gonna stop. Goodbye to all the tried and true Apple fans that know what Apple once stood for. Peace to you and yours. I humbly hang my shirt. God bless.

What are you smoking? The iPad has always started at $499 for the 16gb Wifi. ALWAYS - since it's beginning. Since the very first iPad. They haven't upped the price on anything.

Great, great all the way

From the venue to the subtle format changes, it's apparent that the Cook regime is having its own impact now. The style has changed.

I'm seriously in love with the iPad mini, but there isn't a loser product in there. The new iMac? Fusion drive? 27.something in?

But I might have one of those little iPad minis in my bag soon.

Now, commence all the "it's too expensive!" "It's just style and advertising!"
"Samsung has two more cores!"

"All-in-one" = display and CPU.

The keyboard and mouse aren't built in either.

Gee, thanks for clearing that up for me; when the keyboard is built in, that's what those whippersnappers call a laptop, isn't it?

Thunderbolt provides the potential for an external GPU, or so I've read; how about if they leave that out of the next iMac and you can buy a separate GPU in a box to sit on your desk?

I'm sorry, I don't understand the need to make a desktop unit freakishly thin.

Profit margin - the 2's components are cheaper. No expensive display.

So I'll guess they keep the iPad 2 around for a few more years then. they should've bumped down the iPad 3, if not for profit but for that sleek look of the lot.

Tim Cook may be no Steve Jobs, but he's still better at giving presentations than 99% of other CEOs. Phil Schiller on the other hand, well I love the guy, but he's terrible at showing off products. He looks not only uncomfortable and talks like he has cotton in his mouth, but he just doesn't have stage presence, constantly looks down, never smiles. He just acts like he hates giving speeches, and that negative demeanor can't help but rub off on the song and dance.

Tim needs to have Jony Ive do the product announcements. He's comfortable speaking, he has a sophisticated, cool air about him, and he can speak much more earnestly about what makes Apple products so great. And no offense to Phil, but he looks like he could be some exec at Microsoft, and let's be honest -- everything about Apple is part of the brand, and the public face should represent the proper image.

One thing I noticed during the iPad mini ad was Ive's title. Senior Vice President of Design. Well who is the President of Design? Did he always have this title? If Scott Forstall has gotten a promotion I'll sell my Apple stock right now.

Not attacking you or anything, but what would you liked to have seen as an innovation that can actually be used now? What are the missing features from the iPhone5, the iPad 3 or 4? What is missing from the iMac or Mac Mini?

Its a massacre

How about Wireless Charging? NFC? (not popular in the states yet, but when I was in taiwan literally everywhere was using NFC) Synaptics tech? (Using gloves with phone- great for cold weather)

The only thing keeping iphone afloat for near future is the good app selection. Really thats it. Once MSFT throws its money around, I see windows 8 phones / surface putting a beatdown on apple.

Still not quite an all in one for current tech, dvds and blu-rays are still current, Apple seems to forget that.

Apple isn't particularly about current tech. They are about emerging techs, not waning tech. This was evident when they removed the floppy disk drive before. This was evident when they shipped the iPhone without flash. And this is clearly evident now with the ODD. All of these are examples of "current tech" of their time.

Yeah we expect our technology to last for at least year. People are pissed because it devalues the product, especially those that plan to sell on at near the buying price a year later. People expect Apple products to hold their value, well the value has gone a heck of a lot quicker than any other Apple product in the past.

And yes it is obsolete, because they don't make it anymore. It's just disappeared from the inventory. iPad 2 is still here.

Honestly I agree with most of what you stated regarding resale value, however when applied to the Mac product line. Traditionally, Smaller personal (consumer) electronics hold little resale value. I honestly feel that any resale value a tablet, smartphone, or other such product may have, should always be more of a suprise, than an expectation.

Haha, same here! They used that old school colorful screen too.

I actually ended up ripping my earphones out and jumped back. It was quite a bit louder than Tim's last few words. Glad I just finished sipping my coffee when it happened!

I wonder who in the Media department, thought that ending would be a good idea.

It's like Christmas comes twice this year.

(Or, counting actual Christmas, three times.)

That is likely the main reason for the iPad releases being now. Push holiday sales rather than have them suffer cause folks are waiting for the new iPad in the next quarter.

Wonder if this is just a schedule shift or if they are planning small tweaks every six months as prices come down on components.

If you buy this "new new iPad," you are a fool. We now know Apple is fine with a 6-7 month release cadence. The iPad 5 will look more like the new iPad mini and iPhone 5 and will be a full rev and be here in six months.

look more like two products that look nothing alike, yes, that makes sense

Interesting.

So the iPad 4th Gen and Mini will support EE's band of 4G/LTE in the UK. (That's band 3.) But EE are only offering very expensive 12-24 month contracts.

You have to reach all the way to the back of the new iMac just to stick in an SD card? WTF!

If the new iPad Mini would actually be €250 (~$329), it would be a pretty good price for it. But it seems to cost €339 here in Finland. That's about $440! There's no way I'll be parting with that kind of money for it.

Wall Street with another irrational move sending the stock down $16 as the price was announced. Were they really expecting Apple to go bargain basement on the price? Well, we'll get earnings in a few days.

Most analysts on Wall Street had priced it no higher than $299, the $329 is seen as too high leading to less sales. Then again, the $329 price should lead to higher margins which analysts like. Right or wrong, $299 sounds better from a marketing perspective. Also, it's not equipped with the latest and greatest in technology....it's more akin to an iPad 2 in terms of specs.

If Apple wants to charge a premium price for a premium product, the product associated with that price should then be premium. The iPad Mini is not premium.

That said, I'm still buying one for my kid.
