Ipad mini has siri. So why can't my pad 2 have it?

Your iPad 2 probably can run Android, Symbian and even the forthcoming Windows RT, but why can't it have it?

Currently we're living the dictatorship of the "ecosystems". I was happy in the PC era when we were free to install anything a Intel processor could run. Maybe in the future we'll have "ecosystem free" hardware and software.

My quick take on the new products, in no particular order:

Mac Mini
Great, nice update, wondering like other folks about the discrete GPU model (previously the higher end model had a 6330M). Continues to be a strange machine in the Apple product line, but quite a few of my developer friends love them - I've been tempted for years for one as a media machine.

13" rMBP
Still a little confused by the $200 difference vs. a like spec'ed machine vs. the same price for a like spec'ed MBP vs. rMBP 15" Sub-$1500 would have been perfect, though I'm not exactly a buyer anyway.

iMac
Holy hell, I love this new design, totally a sucker for the ID-over-function :D Actually it's a fantastic desktop machine, my folks are going to be buying soon and I held them off knowing there'd be new machines. $1299 for the 8GB + 1 TB 21.5" machine? Perfect :)

iPad 4th Gen
I'm filled with RAGE! Hahaha, no I'm fine, excellent update, semi-unexpected, might trade/gift/migrate my 3rd gen because I'm crazy like that ;)

iPad Mini
No surprises, the price I feel should have been $299, just because that's a major price point in consumer studies, but they'll still sell more than they can make. Or maybe done a "discount" at the 32GB level like $399 (from $329), then the full $100 for the 64Gb model ($499)

Biggest Shocker
4th Gen iPad update

Biggest Disappointment
Pricing on 13" rMBP

Favorite Product
iMac, in love with the design

Most Likely to Buy
iPad Mini (x2 for Christmas)

Get real. MSFT a children's device. LOL :rolleyes:
The hardware itself, certainly not. I like what I've seen so far. But Windows UI graphics (from XP and on) look like they were made for children and the included wallpapers must've been picked by a 9 year old girl. What's the Win8 default, a bunch of tulips? Tasteful. Why create a calm, stylish environment where the OS takes the back seat when you can projectile vomit garish colors on the user?

selling ipad2 for mini?

Thinking about selling my ipad 2 for the mini, only about $100 difference when its all said and done but I own an iphone 5 and I am thinking having both might be a little redundant...

Is the mini really using the same internals as the ipad2? Definitely have noticed a slow down on my ipad2 after ios6- makes me nervous about the mini.

So I've been considering making the switch from an crappy 5 yr old PC to a Mac mini. Most used or refurb 2011 minis are being sold on eBay anywhere from $450-$650. Apple was selling those for about $550.

When do guys think prices for 2011s will begin to drop?

Wall Street with another irrational move sending the stock down $16 as the price was announced. Were they really expecting Apple to go bargain basement on the price? Well, we'll get earnings in a few days.

I know, what do investors want? They want the same pricing system as all those who sell millions of devices, yet don't make a profit?
I was kind of hoping for a 299$ price, at least for the psychological impact. But I don't know if the 30$ will keep a lot of buyers away or steer them elsewhere. What I do know is that if they were expecting to sell 10million before the holidays, 30$ represents 300million in profits...

Why is apple still putting 5400rpm hard drives as the standard configuration for 2012 mac minis?

I would have liked to see it at $299 but $30 extra isn't the end of the world. Just don't buy a lightning adapter with it and its the same. I think eventually it will come down to $299.

At $329 - the 16GB iPad mini is $80 MORE than the 16GB N7 (currently) and $170 LESS than the 16GB iPad retina....

The price is more or less adequate. When you pay an Apple product you pay the Apple tax - everyone knows this. You pay for the exceptional customer service, the ease of use, the seamless eco-system, the build quality.

For me, the $329 price point is fine. I know I'm getting Apple quality (sorry N7 and the shoddy display) and it's much closer in price to the low end tablets than the iPad retina.

iPad's have consistently been $100 more....why is this price point surprising and disappointing?

In U.S., $30 means nothing, but in other countries it means import and exchange taxes which can add a further 100% on this value. These $30 easily will convert itself into $45 and most probably near $60 here in Brazil.

The estimate (which in the next week and a half we'll see exactly how much) of how much it costs to build the iPad mini was in the neighborhood of $195. $329 means a profit (before marketing, shipping and post production prices are included) of $136. This seems to be slightly less on the low end than previous iPad models but then it gets higher on the back end due to prices of storage vs. what apple charges for them.

Just wondering why they would drop the iPad 3 and keep the 2?

Steve Bleeping Cook that's why!

Now you Apple users know how us Android users feel. Oh wait, not yet. We get something outdated every other month! Time will tell!:p

Because the iPad lineup now mirrors the MacBook lineup.

You have:

MacBook Air - iPad mini
MackBook Pro - iPad 2
MacBook Pro with retina - iPad with retina

I think the iPad 2 and the MBP aren't long for this world. IMO the Air is a better buy than the regular pro just as the mini is a better buy than the 2. Eventually the retina devices will come down in price, effectively squeezing out the MBP and iPad 2.

I don't really see how this move adds confusion. The MacBook and iPad lines are supposed to be seen as 2 devices of the same vein (mobile PCs), hence their lineups and release time frames will coincide. Apple is trying to relate in every customer's mind the MacBook to the iPad. They started this by dropping the number from the iPad naming system - now they've finished the move with the mini, the 2 and the retina.

But I wouldn't use the word innovative. It seems hyperbolic to me.
The whole presentation was nothing but hyperbole. Are all American companies like this? If so, I don't know how you guys can stand this sleazebag used car salesman nonsense. It's frightfully close to North Korean propaganda or Baghdad Bob's reassurances that they have utterly crushed and chased off the same enemy who can be seen over his shoulder raising the American flag.

And you are from Texas? Let me rephrase: when you do not buy Apple product you do not pay Apple TAX :D

You really do have to hand it to Apple. The Fusion Drive has become the new IT feature for the decade. This is all just too much. I can't ever remember so many new and updated products being announced in one day. Looks like I will be busy for the rest of the week. Lots to explore now.
