Just like the iPad.
And the iPhone 3GS.
And the iPhone 4. And the iPhone 4S.
And the iPad 2 and 3.
And iOS 3, 4, and 5.
Just like Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

Every new Apple product is always deemed by a loud few to be the worst, most underwhelming they've ever released. And then Apple goes on to record quarters and record sales.

Incremental improvements don't equal revolution though... and that was the expectation created and fuelled by Apple

What, exactly, has Apple done to stoke expectations of another "revolutionary" device? They didn't exactly do anything to quell the leaks, and their invitation certainly didn't hype things up. Actually, neither did last year's. They don't need to, since the media does their job for them.

iPhone is a mature product in a mature market now. Usually follow-on products from Apple are evolutionary. An Apple TV would need to be revolutionary, not the 5th generation (or 6th) iPhone.
