Yep.

Just like the iPad.
And the iPhone 3GS.
And the iPhone 4. And the iPhone 4S.
And the iPad 2 and 3.
And iOS 3, 4, and 5.
Just like Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

Every new Apple product is always deemed by a loud few to be the worst, most underwhelming they've ever released. And then Apple goes on to record quarters and record sales.

Yes... when did I say they wouldn't have record sales? Of course they will. They could have re-released the 4S, added LTE and called it the 4GS and it would still have record sales.

That in no way makes the announcement any more than subpar.

Hmm. A CPU 2x as fast. A GPU 2x as fast. World-band LTE. A higher resolution screen with better saturation and contrast. An improved camera. Better battery life. 20% lighter. 18% Thinner. Smaller than its predecessor. Yeah, that was underwhelming.

Now if they had just taken the 4S and stuck a 5" screen, that would have been revolutionary!. :D

Yeah, but they're all "spec-sheet" figures- I thought Apple didn't compete so much on specs as they did on experience. What's new about the iPhone 5 experience?

Those are modest yearly product upgrades... And Apple always touts "better" battery life and well.. I'll let the volume of complaints speak for themselves...

By that measure, the Galaxy SIII had modest yearly updates over the SII.

Until foldable screens become viable (probably not for a few years), that's probably all we'll see from everyone. What will the SIV have? I'm guessing a faster processor, faster GPU, better battery life, perhaps a better camera. It isn't as if 5G wireless is around the corner (LTE-A is a relatively minor improvement). I doubt even Samsung will go much larger with the screen than they already have (the Note is HUGE and that's probably the limit).

the OS doesnt even take advantage of the bigger screen. how pathetic. they might as well have stayed on 3.5 without any OS tweaks

People always like to have the latest and greatest. Regardless of whether it's actually the best. And if you're invested in the Apple ecosystem - regardless of how underwhelming or exciting the iPhone is - millions of people will upgrade because they want the latest and greatest from Apple.

It will be interesting to see the sales numbers. I'm curious if we'll get new iPhone owners vs upgrades, hand me downs, etc. In other words - how many people either switched from their current non-Apple phone or from no smart phone to the iPhone 5

Whats the point. Its not really a 4" screen its just taller.
Yes there are some features that are nice but not enough to make an upgrade worth it.

You can't base your whole marketing campaign off things like that though. Apple always does this.

You should work on a new marketing strategy for Apple because theirs is terrible. Maybe you can make them the largest public company in the world, or something.
