True innovation comes from Korea and Japan.

Japan? Sony, Panasonic, et. al. are struggling right now. Korea? Didn't a court just find them guilty of copying? And even a court in Korea said they copied some parts of the iPhone.

Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 are all American products. I think some of the best innovation right now is coming from Redmond, and it's about time. Now that they need to compete, they are doing good work.

Samsung is a great supplier and a worthy competitor. They don't need to copy, but they did.

The Oppo Finder is 6.65 mm, so the new iPhone is NOT the thinnest smartphone...

Yes.. I mentioned that a few times already. A quick google search is all Apple's staff had to do before looking silly for saying the iPhone was.

This will be the best iPhone yet... the alu back is something I truly Appreciate from Apple. It makes me think Tim Cook and the execs are back to their "Apple roots" - making the best product they can make for the consumer.

Double-sided glass for the iPhone 4/4s was an epic fail for the consumer and a harsh sense of where Apple positioned themselves at the time, but I believe this new iPhone is showing that they are ready to make the best product for the consumer, not just for sales(Apple sales). They did indeed fire the hardware designer of the iPhone 4's shell, so maybe they knew they made a booboo to the consumer right there & then after all... even though the assumption is he got shelled because of the antenna issue.

By the way, what makes this iPhone 5 mostly thinner is the in-cell technology, which is another important feature for the iPhone 5 even though they are going to market "thinner phone" instead of "thinner & more responsive glass" because of in-cell technology. Basically, the phone being thinner is due to not using 2-paned glass for the touchscreen, and now they use one - one with in-cell technology. I do believe the screen will be brighter nonetheless as well because of the one pane, and the angles of view will be better/clearer as well.

Apple is going to kill it for the rest of 2012... like kill it.

I sold my iphone 4 last week and upgraded to an S3 with the thoguht that if the rumors were true I wouldnt need to do anything but sit back. Looks like I'm gonna enjoy the S3 for at least the next year.

Late October for the new iTunes?? NOO!! I don't want to wait that long! :(

My favourite nano was the 3rd gen (?) one, the wide squared-shaped one.

What, exactly, has Apple done to stoke expectations of another "revolutionary" device? They didn't exactly do anything to quell the leaks, and their invitation certainly didn't hype things up. Actually, neither did last year's. They don't need to, since the media does their job for them.

iPhone is a mature product in a mature market now. Usually follow-on products from Apple are evolutionary. An Apple TV would need to be revolutionary, not the 5th generation (or 6th) iPhone.

This is not the place to make sense.

LOL about the post who says that since everything was already known from MacRumors it was disappointing (or so)

This will be the same for iPhone 6, no wait it should be 7.
No wait it is 6S!

Folks, just buy the phone that does what you need and stop whining.

Apple will not be able to change this phone much in future evolutions already.

If anything I'd want it to be a projector at the same time. We'll see.

This is a mature product..... oh wait somebody said that already....

Honestly, my feelings were ambivalent about this, but if you think about it, apart from a bigger screen which I can understand, what else do you want?

A thicker phone?
Worse battery?
A faster processor?
Faster wireless?

I can't really think of much that's actually feasible or available. Given the current tech, I think Apple have done well today.

GDGT has my vote. It is run by the same people that started Engadget, and IMO taught the craft of live blogging to many others.

I usually watch them first, followed by the before mentioned Engadget and The Verge.

Ars Technica has a good live blog as well. I'm watching it now. Jacqui is probably the fastest typist in the world.

They actually copied the terrible iPad music app UI to iTunes? I hope the performance benefits are good enough to make me overlook that.

There's no technical limitation on why they don't. Apple Inc. can easily afford the bandwidth and servers.

Simply put, they don't want to. It's a private event for a hand-selected group of tech media.

It's not a football match.
Damed right this is not football (what ever version you refer to), this is important and interresting

So, why doesn’t Apple bother to ask people questions like “Would you rather have a thinner and thinner phone or and phone you don’t have to worry about breaking with lots more power and battery life?” or “Do you really care how many countries are getting the iPhone?” I think they should get off their high horse and concentrate on reinventing the iOS. What is this a race to see who can get to the paper phone first? How easy is this thing going to snap?

Can someone please explain to me what everyone is moaning about ?

You have a phone that looks different, a new style, a new design.
You have a thinner, lighter phone
You have a bigger screen, with pro level color accuracy
You have an improved camera, both hardware and software side
You have your A6 SoC that you all wanted, 2x as fast CPU and GPU
You also have LTE
All while keeping the same battery life ?

Oh, darn it, theres no NFC. That makes it such a big failure.

Not.

I don't actually know what else they could of done.

You have to realize that this board, and others like are the minority. Most people will like what they see, and it will sell extremely well. The same things were said when the 4 was released, and the 4s.

People like to b!tch...

features? Apple was known to focus more on software than hardware. what use is a bigger screen if there arent any OS tweaks that take real use of it. an extra row of icons, seriously?
