Anyone want to make a signature bet about whether this will be an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5? I'm in the 4S camp myself.

Either way, I'm psyched.

Does it really matter?

Even a 4S will be attractive enough to sell like crazy. Hell, iPhone 4 sales were strong leading right up to today.

I'm sure Apple has the bases covered. They seem to know exactly what to do to continue making the iPhone a great device.

Apple site for the Ginza, Japan location already showing '4S.'

http://www.apple.com/jp/retail/ginza/#onetoone_browser_gettingstarted

It says "on sale from 8:00 am on the 14th"

EDIT: Beat me to it!

Translating the pages gives

iPhone 4S, appeared.
October 14, from 8:00 am to launch the Apple Store. To help you choose the carrier and rate plan is right for you. staff because it sets the iPhone, and is ready to start using before leaving the store. Learn more

"Choose Carrier", huh? So KDDI is getting the (CDMA) iPhone 4S from day one, not "early next year"?
Great.

I kind of hope all that is released is just a faster iPhone 4, the design still has plenty of life left in it.

iPhone5 in 2012.

Sometimes sticking with what works instead of following trends suggests all the confidence in the world.

Hold true Apple, don't give into the passing fads. Big is in now, but soon it will be out.

I know this is somewhat vague, but does anyone have/know the link to the live video commentary where it's two or three guys in what looks like a radio booth/room? They cover every Apple event, and I'm sure they're a well-known site, I just can't remember the name. I've used them for the last two Apple events and they're great. I've actually been referred to them from links posted in the forums here at MacRumors, but have forgot to bookmark each time. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It obviously matters to some. For days, there have been a ton of people on this site and others saying they'll refuse to buy a 4S. I've even read from so-called "Apple fans" who claim they'll never buy another Apple product again if this is "just" a 4S.

There are also a ton of people giving a 100% guarantee that they know what the phone will look like. My idea of a signature bet is just a way to either put up or shut up. Just trying to add a little fun to the back-and-forth arguments.

Perfect timing in the UK...6pm news meaning everyone's broadband bandwidth is shot to ***** so any websites are slow

Do you notice how everything is 4? 4th October, Building 4 might be a clue? ... think I have had too much coffee....

ok, another hour. To those, like myself who think we'll be very disappointed later, please dun. Here's what we can do

  • if release ip5 with new form factor, be ready to queue up :)
  • if not, it only another 12 months, wait for ip6, sure will have new design with even better hardware and iOS6

In the meantime
  • We can upgrade our ip4 with iOS5 and enjoy, it'll be interesting,
  • Or explore upcomming andriod ice ream

  • If dun mind, get the 4s

What the heck does "dun" mean?

I agree with everything you said here except that the 2012 iPhone would have to be the 6, not the 5, since this year's model would be the fifth, even if it's not referred to with the number 5.

My modem just died TODAY! I mean WTF?? Tethering with my iPhone is working, lucky me... But cant download the keynote today

We're like a load of children having waited the past year praying for our brand new bike, looking at photo's in the catalogues, showing our parents what we really want, only to discover on Christmas morning when we unwrap it, dad has painted the old one and put some stickers on it instead :(
