$1599 is a lot, but $1299 for 8GB and 256GB standard now, and a retina display and retaining same battery, not bad?

I dunno what did people expect? for it to replace current MacBook Air pricing?

the question is, do rMBP come 8/256 standard now? Maybe the refurbished store will have some good deals at last.

need 8/256 at least to be an upgrade over my 4/128 air.

Retaining the same battery life (barely, if at all) isn't exactly an achievement considering that it uses at least 3 times less power hungry Core M instead of Broadwell-U.

Yup, it's the way of the future. Few people use every port. Make the devices thinner and lighter and you only get the adapters you need.

Exactly. This is quite like the original MacBook Air (which I had and loved). It isn't for everyone, yet, but it's good that Apple has done this. April 10 could be a very busy day - New MacBook and new Apple Watch!

I hope the very first phone call Tim gets on his new :apple: watch is someone telling him that the new Macbook is an overpriced, underpowered connectivity nightmare.

Retiring the MagSafe is a bad idea.

Ah dang, must have spaced out on that.

So Core M is significantly slower or what? Haven't kept up with the latest chips too much.

Battery life is basically the same as the Macbook Pro 13 Retina...

Benchmarks on other sites would say slower yes, significantly would depend on what you are using it for I suppose, but its slower.

Oh, I'm not calling it rubbish and I'm sure it will be 1000 times better than trying to use an on-screen keyboard. But the older generation keyboard is already to thin to be comfortable for extended typing sessions.

Actually I already use an external keyboard on my MBP when I'm typing a lot. so this change probably won't be as bad as I first thought.

For serious typing I use Matias mechanical keyboards, but I have found the MBP keyboards to be the best I have ever used when it comes to laptops. Hopefully the retina Macbook keyboard is nice too.

From 9to5mac http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/09/apple-macbook-air/
The 13″ MacBook Pro will be getting the new Force Touch trackpad introduced in the all-new 12″ MacBook today, as well as faster flash memory and 10-hour battery life.

A seemingly authentic spec leak showed a new version of the 13″ MacBook Air with an updated Intel Core i5-5250U 1.6GHz CPU, Intel HD Graphics 6000 GPU, and roughly 4% larger 7422mAh battery.

Blame intel, they had no new processors to update the 15" with. They could have at least given it a GPU and force touch trackpad update though.

I usually update my MBP every 2 years, since 2012, there's been no real updates. I'm sad. I've been waiting for an update for years now. :( Guess, I'll have to sell the one I have and get the new Macbook.

Something had to give, I guess. I think it's a good move overall. This is returning to the roots of the original MacBook Air. It's a little ahead of its time, but it is the future.

SO YES, IT WILL LAST AN ENTIRE MARATHON.

There. Had to get that in.
