You can't afford the $10K Apple Watch

And thats the point.

The reality is that there are plenty of people in this world who can - quite easily - afford to pay $10,000 plus for a watch that will be obsolete in eighteen months. There are plenty of people who can afford to drop $10,000 on bottle service at nightclubs, or lose ten times that playing blackjack or Hold 'em at a Casino.

The Ten Thousand Dollar Apple Watch isn't meant to be a mass-market item. Its designed to serve two purposes:

It lets absurdly rich people own something that very, very few other people will own.

But more importantly, it serves as a "placeholder". It basically says: Spending ten thousand dollars on a watch seems crazy. Look at how sensible I am (and what a great deal I got) spending $600 on this stainless steel one.

Whatever money Apple is paying Angela Ahrendts, you see her influence in things like the Apple Edition watch pricing.

The way I look at it is, Apple had an entire event just to disclose price of the Watch - which was announced 6 months ago, which will be available for Pre-Order after 1 more month, and can get in our hands not before another fortnight from then. Why is Apple trying to create an artificial buzz about their latest category? I guess answer lies within the question.

What are you smoking? It only has 1 port, so if your laptop is low on battery, you can't watch a movie on demand and plug the charger in at the same time. The Core-M CPU's benchmarks are lower than the current Air's CPU's. And the new Air has 2 hours LESS battery life than the current Air. All 3 of your points are misleading. Are you a paid Apple employee?

What, exactly, is stopping you from watching a movie while charging?

Fundamentally the iWatch is a peripheral.

Pricing it in the same price range as the main device (iPhone) is an awful idea. Nothing about today sold me on the watch, Instagram on a smaller more fiddly screen? nope. Sending my heartbeat to someone? Why would I want to do that?

...

Today solidifies my opinion Apple is becoming less and less focused on the 'core', professional Mac users as well. No update on the Thunderbolt display after 4 years? Nope. Multi-coloured 'cute' MacBooks? Yeah, apparently.
They didn't. $350-399 for the Watch Sport is half of an iPhone. iPhone is also an accessory.

Apple dumped the Professionals years ago. This is main-stream mass produced Apple, and has been for a good 5 years.

I don't even think I want any smartwatch after watching this haha...There really is nothing compelling about wearables that I can think of.
Agreed, Other than for tryign out something new that'll be mostly unused after a few weeks or months, I don't see the draw to them.

It's not the original keynote I am referring to, it's the later keynotes discussing the iPhone after it was already announced. I doubt we will ever see the excitement we did for the original iPhone introduction again.

The later, detailed keynotes never really have the energy of the product introductions.

That said, I wished Apple would do their original introductions closer to customer availability, though I understand why, (FCC reasons for one).

I honestly expected this to be an all out keynote. First new product in the post Jobs era, etc. Where was the excitement? Personally I think the MB was the best part of today's presentation.

I think he means if the laptop was connected physically to his TV at the same time, via a hdmi adapter.

I'm sure there will be hub/adapter/etc solutions for this surely, well at least I hope so.

buy a rolex instead.

Already have a few Rolexes. In fact, I'm willing to bet that the people who are interested in this $16,000 first-generation Apple Watch already own a Rolex. I don't think this product is aimed towards the mass consumers. I don't see who Apple is going to sell 10 millions of these Special Editions. I love collecting watches, but there's no way in hell I'll be getting one of these.

This just gets more ridiculous - the rose gold strap is £4000 extra! Yes, I really did type that right, it's four thousand pounds more!

Yup. Apple is moving into the fashion/high end industry with these watches, and they're distinctly aimed for prestige and to 'make a statement'. Most people on here cannot afford them and that's okay - and also the point.

The Surface Pro 3 comes with i5 and i7 processors, much more powerful then the Intel one Apple has used, as I understand.
So no, the new MacBook is not the same at all.

The Core M scores just a bit below the i5 Haswell U's, doesn't it? Like, for instance, a Core i5 Haswell U might score 1600 in Passmark, while the M scores 1300. A difference, sure, but not a drastic one.

Though I'd be surprised if the up and coming SP4 goes with a Core M. It's geared towards graphic design first and foremost, so I'm willing to bet MS will sacrifice some battery life and go straight for the Broadwell U to get that extra oomph.

Not even 24h of battery life - after 2years probably around 12h? Useless and disappointing.
The best item on today's update was HBO now.

Apple Watch, $350 starting and is the equivalent of my gen 1 Galaxy Gear but with more apps and having iOS centric stuff. Seems like a great investment, especially with that battery life. Sign me up..... to avoid purchasing it.

All the prices are now up and running on the Apple site.

According to the UK the stainless steel with the link bracelet will cost £819...not sure I can drop that on a SS when the Sport starts at £299...essentially they are charging £520 for the strap....REALLY

Don't forget the SS case. But yes, they're only really adding about £10 worth of value to the base model (my watch with a stainless steel strap cost about £30 in total, but I freely admit to being a cheapskate :)). Of the aluminium ones, the black looks most plausible to me. It probably won't look too different in real life to the £819 model, and there should be third party straps in due course.

I don't think you will ever get another original iPhone announcement. It was a revolutionary thing back then, nowadays it's much harder to surprise people that much in a single keynote. And it was Steve doing the presentation.

Also, sometimes people don't understand the significance of the product when they see it for the first time either. The original iPod announcement wasn't as big as it should have been, and iPod was as revolutionary as the iPhone if not more.

That's a situation in which Apple clearly intends for you to be using Airplay. If you still want to watch movies with your laptop connected to your tv like it's 2005, then a device like the new MBA is clearly not targeted at you.

Funny thing is a lot of people who have them swear by them. I don't know if that's just a need to justify their purchase or if it really is useful once used.

It's kinda disappointing that apple couldn't figure out the formula either because the industry doesn't really advance until apple does things for people to copy.

Samsung will definitely still announce Samsung watch though lol.

Maybe version 2 will have a killer feature. I can see celebrities buying the pricy one and some die hard fans buying the lesser tiers, but the average consumer, I dunno.

Apple offer one on their store (a three-way adaptor with charging, VGA/HDMI and USB). It's expensive but there will probably be third party ones soon.

Daft mark-ups on the UK prices too - cheaper to fly business class to the US and rent a limo to take you from the airport to the apple store and buy the Edition versions there than it is to buy in the UK.

Are you serious Apple? Thats it? Worst event ever!

Not impressed...sadly I have stock tanking a bit also! Also, I expected Touch ID at least on the new 12" MACBOOK! Even a lot of the new Windows junk is sporting Touch ID. Long summer it will be for investors.
