USB-C isn't proprietary. There will be a ton of adapters available for this in no time, from $5 usb hubs to fancy docking stations (which have always been sorely lacking from the Apple laptop family).

Ahhhh, but is this port pure USB-C? Apple just spun it as 4 ports in one. One of them is USB-C but is the other connectors/connections within a part of USB-C or something Apple has cooked up to make one hole take more than one kind of connection?

The guy's question was how to charge AND do something else (like send a movie via HDMI to his television) at the same time. Is that fundamental to USB-C or is that a proprietary port or adapter that splits USB-C into power + HDMI?

Yeah, this one has me annoyed, but I am looking at the side of my rMBP and for the new Macbook to be thinner, it has to go.

Maybe need to change the TB port/cable yes. But how hard could that be? It's 5 years old.

No - no facetime camera yet. Are you insane - why would anyone need a camera on their watch?! There isn't ONE use case that makes sense for having a camera on a watch. What is WRONG WITH YOU ;)

(this is what i heard when I suggested the iPad 1 should have had one)

You forgot: "why would anyone want a front-facing camera on a <Apple Watch>. No stability would make the other person dizzy"

And

"Why would someone want to look up my nose while video chatting?" (and something about not wanting them to see nose hairs).

I was there in iPad 1 days. A front-facing camera made absolutely no sense on an iPad... right up until iPad 2 and "FaceTime". Then it was the signature reason to upgrade.

Yes, but can it charge mac and output usb signal to ios device at the same time?

Yes.

Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera, or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your MacBook.

while apple has been largely bullet-proof for a few years now, i really think this is a major misstep. The apple watch looks and feels like hubris, and i think it will come back to bite them. And if tim cook personally pushed for this, i think it will come back to haunt him. Or if not tim, whomever was pushing this agenda. And no, i don't think it was in the pipeline while sj was alive. This nonsense came from someone/some group else. The thinking behind this is just terrible. "we'll invent a product which no-one wants and no-one needs (because, no-one wears a watch anymore except as a fashion accessory, thanks to the smartphone, which we helped invent), and we'll make them want it and we'll sell it for a bunch of money, because we are apple and we can do anything". I mean, the thinking behind this whole thing is either faulty, at best, or arrogant, at worst.

+1 Steve Jobs would have canceled the project when it was obvious the iWatch would be marginally different from the Android counterparts.

Yup. The most I can say about the Apple Watch, from style, to functionality, is a pretty resounding "...eh, s'alright". It's not bad, exactly. There's just nothing about it that makes it really stand out from anything else on the market. I'd happily take one as a gift, or pick one up if I could find it on sale for half price, but I wouldn't line up outside an Apple Store for one.

To be brutally honest, it's not even that much better than the Galaxy Gear everyone was bashing here a couple years back. I was pretty meh about it, and I'm pretty meh about this.

Yep it's looking like you are going to be mostly out of luck if you want to use it with anything other than overpriced accessories designed only for macs.

It kind of sucks that you can't even use a USB stick to transfer files to computers that don't have continuity.

Yeah, too bad no other company on earth is going to use USB-C...

Btw, they didn't say anything about a USB-C to TB converter did they?

How are people going to use the Thunderbolt docks they bought for their MacBooks with this thing?

The same way people with Firewire devices used them with Apple hardware after they dropped Firewire. They are not.

OR, there will be an adapter and- I bet- it will have some kind of proprietary part to it so that it can sell for $29 or more... probably $39-$49.

Trust me I know. I was the one constantly ridiculed for even suggesting that it should have been there.

"Who's going to use a camera for facetime. Or to take a picture?"

I don't think they will drop TB.

I think they will wait for Intel to shrink the port size and it'll be on later models of MacBook.

which group of audience is apple trying to target with this 12" macbook air?
and which kind of activities is this group will use this far?

were in an age of where softwares require more computing power every year. seems like these low voltage isn't fast/powerful enough to run them.

You can't really compare. The iPad is a stand-alone device, it can be shared, and although deemed "meh" at the beginning, it really does have its place in the market - especially for media consumption.

It has a place in the market because Apple made us realize it had a place in the market. Do you know how many posts I've seen where people said, "It's just a giant iPod. Who needs an iPad. My laptop can do everything the iPad does."

Quick question, is there really no difference between the Sport and the Stainless Steel one other than the material and strap? For example, does the Sport have a crystal sapphire display? I believe that the stainless steel model does have this.

The Sport has a hardened glass display and a cheaper back case.

Apple made you realize that a smart watch has a place in the market? Really? Apple did that? oooook.

I think Tim pushed for it along with the VPs but it is his call as CEO to "green light" the project. If he didn't OK it, the watch wouldn't happen.

Hell, where was this new iTunes replacement they were going to talk about in regards to Beats??! They should've gotten this taken care by now.

I'm thinking Pebble Time, Android watch for iOS or Kairos will be my next thing in the future.
