Quick question, is there really no difference between the Sport and the Stainless Steel one other than the material and strap? For example, does the Sport have a crystal sapphire display? I believe that the stainless steel model does have this.

Was legitimately ready to buy this thing, and I don't even need a new laptop, until I realized there is no headphone jack.

Not unless you look on the other side from the USB-C port. Which is visible during the first few minutes of Phil Schiller's presentation this morning.

It's not called out on the comparison page on Apple's site, but then the 13" MacBook Air specs on that page don't call out the audio connector either.

It's going to be funny when people who put down $10,000 to $17,000 on their Apple Watch realize they can't use the watch outdoors because the glare from the sun will make the Watch unusable with not being able to see the display

Ahhhh, but is this port pure USB-C? Apple just spun it as 4 ports in one. One of them is USB-C but is the other connectors/connections within a part of USB-C or something Apple has cooked up to make one hole take more than one kind of connection?

The guy's question was how to charge AND do something else (like send a movie via HDMI to his television) at the same time. Is that fundamental to USB-C or is that a proprietary port that splits USB-C into power + HDMI?

The port IS usb-c. Not apple's proprietary adaptation of it. It's designed with the express purpose of carrying power, data, video, etc.

which group of audience is apple trying to target with this 12" macbook air?
and which kind of activities is this group will use this far?

were in an age of where softwares require more computing power every year. seems like these low voltage isn't fast/powerful enough to run them.

No we aren't. We are in the age of optimization. Most office and school work could be done just fine with cpu's from 5-6 years ago.

Now the worlds Thinnest laptop except you now have to carry 3 different dongles, a hub ,a SD card reader and a power supply (and a new HHD) with you at all times if you do anything close to having a real job at a non-bleeding edge tech firm.

No - no facetime camera yet. Are you insane - why would anyone need a camera on their watch?! There isn't ONE use case that makes sense for having a camera on a watch. What is WRONG WITH YOU ;)

(this is what i heard when I suggested the iPad 1 should have had one)

You forgot: "why would anyone want a front-facing camera on a <Apple Watch>. No stability would make the other person dizzy"

And

"Why would someone want to look up my nose while video chatting?" (and something about not wanting them to see nose hairs).

I was there in iPad 1 days. A front-facing camera made absolutely no sense on an iPad... right up until iPad 2 and "FaceTime". Then it was the signature reason to upgrade.

Wait are you two saying that the same people who said there's no need, then said there was??? That's crazy and hilarious, what a bunch of fools.

Can you two provide an example? (After you finish patting yourselves on the back of course )

Trust me I know. I was the one constantly ridiculed for even suggesting that it should have been there.

"Who's going to use a camera for facetime. Or to take a picture?"

I was the other one. And I think there were a number of others with us. I was called Troll and every other name slung when stating any "I wish it would have included..." and it didn't. You know the rule: whatever Apple has rolled out is the ONE and only way it should be. All other options are "abominations", "stupid" and "99.9% wouldn't want..."

...until Apple does add them in a future version and then it becomes "shut up and take my money" and "best <product> ever".

I never said it was a specific person, now did I? But it's great that you have mostly only one rebuttal tactic.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the battery yet?!

£300+ for a device that ONLY lasts for ONE DAY - NO THANK YOU.

At least many of the other current smart watches give you reasonable battery time but ONE DAY ??? Come on........:(

I don't think they will drop TB.

I think they will wait for Intel to shrink the port size and it'll be on later models of MacBook.

I'm a little skeptical here. This could have been a lone Thunderbolt port with Thunderbolt-to-USB3 if USB3 was so important. I hope they won't drop Thunderbolt but I also hoped they wouldn't drop Firewire back when it was still in Apple hardware.

Apple made you realize that a smart watch has a place in the market? Really? Apple did that? oooook.

Reading comprehension buddy. You were on topic of the iPad. I quoted you on the iPad. I was talking about the iPad.

Alas those 1% people who buy the Edition don't usually go outdoors ya' know ;)

It's not a no - it's a recognition that you're creating a straw man argument against me because I never suggested what you're implying.

This type of "argument" is tedious.

What you suggested is that two people having different opinions somehow is significant. That's whats tired.

Let me guess, I didn't "get the point"and now you're done talking about it right?

Well, I hope they don't drop it because I invested in it, but then again, if USB-C proves more efficient, who cares. I'll just get a converter to use my TB interfaces.

Again, his question involved "at the same time". Does USB-C offer "at the same time" so that this new Macbook could be charging up while hooked to his HDTV via HDMI so he could watch a movie?

I'm certain the port is USB-C. The proprietary portion I am speculating is in answer to how to do both at the same time.

.

You sure about that ???? The USB-c spec calls for a 10Gbps transfer rate.

The Macbook specs on :apple:'s site say 5.1 Gbps.......

Gosh, hold your horses. I have no intention of buying an Apple Watch. I am merely asking a question that I would like an answer to, because I like to know things.

Back to topic. Are you going to check out the watch when it goes on sale? I will have to see it in person, but at the moment it's not really pushing any buttons.

Good thing. You were cruising for a neck bruisin'.

To reply on topic, yeah, I'll go check one out sooner or later. It's interesting as a gadget at the very least, and I'd like to see how it looks and feels in person.

But like you, it's not pressing any of my buttons, either. It's neat as a concept, but I don't feel like I absolutely have to have one like I did when the iPad came out.

YES, this USB-C port does allow you to watch something on his HDTV via HDMI and charge at the same time.

This is where it's going. I think it started when they ejected the Superdrive from the "all-in-one" iMac, left the price the same and got away with it. The fans just spun it as "get an external optical drive if you need one".

Why not kick more utility out of future Macs but leave the price the same or raise it? And the fans will spin "just get an adapter if you need that".

I've long speculated that iMac 2025 will probably be what would otherwise be known as a thunderbolt 7 hub... but priced at about the same level as iMacs of today + inflation. And the fans will simply spin it as "great, now we can get the exact monitor we want, the exact graphics card, the exact CPU and so on". Ask, so it's this new iMac just a thunderbolt hub" and probably get slammed by about 10 guys and called a "troll" and similar.

YES, this USB-C port does allow you to watch something on his HDTV via HDMI and charge at the same time.

How? And WHEN you say "adapter" or "hub", can either be proprietary so they are only compatible with this new Mac?
