It's starting to become blatantly obvious....TRUE APPLE VISION/INVENTION died with Jobs death...

Ives & Co. is only "tweaking" present designs

Aside from MacPRo which 99% of the public do not need...WHAT has Apple developed that is earth shattering???

Eventually the public will stop getting duped by these ridiculous prices for just a little extra battery life and clearer picture.

Cook is just riding out the final waves that Steve Jobs left....not much left in the tank at Apple

People do not need 99% of the MacPro because it's NOT made for average consumer.

iPad 2 seems to be very popular! I have Dish Network and yesterday I called to cancel since I don't watch live TV enough and feel I'm wasting my money. I tape everything and watch it later, usually weekends. I have been able to find everything I watch using my jailbroken iPad 4 and my laptop.
They offered me an iPad 2 to sign a 2 year contract and add the hopper (DVR) service. That's the latest promotion, a new iPad 2, I was told. Of course I still cancelled since I already have an iPad 4.

So your wife and her school bought ipads but choose to run iphone software on it. The iphone software looks bad, well of course b/c it was designed for a phone. But you blame apple?

I'm knocking Apple for their ridiculous pixel-doubling solution, sure.

Resolution independence has been around for decades, and yet they decided to take a short term easy route instead.

Hardcoding screen sizes is a very bad idea, long term.

And you prefer a tablet that only has phone software available. Weird.

Android has tablet specific apps. However, even the early Android phone apps look far better on tablets than the iPhone apps do.

What I prefer is that Cook not mix things up. Either compare iOS tablet apps to Android tablet apps, or compare iOS phone apps running on an iPad with Android phone apps running on an Android tablet.

The difference for the latter is night and day.

I finally figured out what's so annoying about Tim Cook in those presentations: he's one of those people who always looks like he's grimacing even when he's smiling. So when he says "amazing" he looks constipated.

What do you suggest for that size with a similar screen resolution? I'll be getting a new tablet soon, but haven't explored all the non-Apple options yet.

Well considering all the competition sell for less, take your pick? Nexus, Kindle Fire, Galaxy etc. Plus Nokia have launched their first tablet today.

$399 for a retina iPad with good specs? It will sell like crazy. So will the full size. I bought a first gen Mini because I wanted the reduction in weight. Now that the iPad Air is so light, I'll probably hand down the Mini to my gf and pick up an iPad Air.

No it won't sell like crazy, didn't everyone say the same about the iPhone 5c? It's overpriced, it's pointless next to the iPad Air. If it was the same price as last years model it would make sense, but as it stands it does not.

And on another note, I just updated my iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 we have to iOS 7.3 or whatever was released today and it forces you to go through the friggin setup again? WHY? It's just an incremental update! Stupid POS.

Maverick here i come, and it looks like I'll be handing my ipad 3 down to the kids (they'll be happy). I'm loving the ipad Air, Thin and light, I'll take in space grey..with the new Ipad smart leather case. Hmm which color......

Are you a little bit "slow" in Amsterdam? Windows 8.1 is a free update. Apple is simply copying Microsoft here. You should thank Microsoft.

Ah, yes - the old Windows .1 updates > OSX 10.X update argument. Don't bother with that, though - even if we're slow, we're not Windows slow, boy.

was there no spoiler free discussion thread? I always enjoyed reading those :(

The Nokia 10" sells for the $499 and includes LTE. The same price as the Wifi iPad :(

I hope Nokia starts a trend with tablets by putting cellular in tablets without jumping the price up. Also Apple could at least put a GPS unit in the Wifi models.

I think the thing that shocked me the most was $399 for an iPad2. I still don't understand that one. No retina, slower processor, less ram, heavier, doesn't have Siri, iSight etc.

Why would any sane person not just spend the extra $100 and get a way better device. I understand $100 is $100 but at some point some point you're actually wasting money buy not spending the little bit extra.

Yo, Macrumors!

You missed the absolutely biggest news of the day: Not with the new garage band, you can enjoy all the benefits of world-class drummers, without having to put up with the drummers. :D

RGDS,

Lucky for me I won't be upgrading to the new iPad Mini Retina. My iPad Mini is good enough. If it had Touch ID, I may have considered it. Then again, is it really needed? Most of the apps I buy on iOS happen in iTunes on my Mac or my iPhone. The iPad Mini auto-downloads those apps so no need to verify login.

I might purchase the 3rd gen with the iPhone 6 release.

As for Mac's.. debating on getting the MacBook Pro or waiting until the next Intel CPU. I wish the 13" came with Quad-Core as an 'upgrade'.

What is the logic in offering a 2 ½ year old iPad 2 for $399 when you can get the retina mini for $399 or the first mini (basically a iPad 2 but smaller) for $299? Did I miss something here?

I thought so too (posted it at 12:30p :D ), though I went a little crazier and suggested a line of $299 Mini (based on old tech) with a Poly-C casing in colors.

That's cool. I first posted on September 4 that I thought it would be around $349/$249 for an A6/A5. As the specs became more clear towards the end of the month on September 27th I said $399/299 and stuck with that. I also suggested the plastic colored casing and think we will eventually see something like that—perhaps next year? Maybe they could do it cheap enough next year by using an A6 non-retina in a plastic enclosure for $249-279.

The only thing I know for sure: Someone should pay us to be analysts. That and I'm buying a new iPad!

Hahaha, agreed - and I'm also on deck for a new iPad, probably a retina mini 32 or 64 GB

I just want to know if it has 2GB of ram. I'll probably max it out to 128GB if it does because I want it to last me a while. Might also get LTE because I can add it to my Verizon share plan for only $8/mo.

Yeah except if I want more than 500 GB I need to pay $500 for a hard drive. Or if I want a 15" macbook pro I need to be carrying around a 3k piece of hardware. The beauty of the non-rMBP is that I can just get one with a good processor and put a $125 hybrid TB drive in it, I can install more ram if I need it. I'm not carrying around a self contained $3k product. If i want to bring my computer out to a gig and someone spills liquid on it, I'm scrwed. I need another 3k.

Well, you can do just that with the MacBook Pro 15 2013 no? You can still buy it, even in 2014. It's just that Apple won't update it for 2014+..

It actually might be a pricing manipulation game. Plenty of studies have shown that customers compare side by side products to decide if they should buy anything. So just having the $399 iPad 2 on the table might drive actually absolute increased sales of the other iPads. The other iPads look comparatively a better value when compared to the poor value iPad 2. The same thing may be going on with the old iPhones. Not only is Apple selling them (and the 5c) but they may be making the flagship iPhone seem a better value to consumers.

There was a study where a device was not selling. So the manufacturer brought out a luxury device for twice the price. He sold none of the luxury device, but now in the stores sitting next to the expensive luxury device, the original device seemed like a great buy. This can work both ways. Clearly the iPad 2 is not a good buy. But the fact that the iPad Air is a better buy might not just get the folks who might buy an iPad to buy the Air, but it might get folks who would have bought nothing to buy the Air.

Also Apple wants its customers to buy the best stuff. That is how Apple gets great word of mouth advertising. It gets folks to spend more but they get more. Then when they walk around, their device is better looking and better performing than the stuff other people have. Sure those folks save $200 or so. But that savings doesn't translate into free advertising. And six months from now, you don't look at your bank account and think "Wow, there is that extra $150 that Google saved me by making the Nexus 7 so cheap."

Road sign + his expression = The bad maps apology :D
