do you realise that you wrote "question & answer questions"

No, no i didnt not, jerk:mad::p

Simple matter of reading on a screen and typing that instead of what I was thinking Q&A sessions.

WHAT? Their attitude hasn't changed:

Q: What about flash?
A: How 'bout you try H.264 instead, dum dum?

You call that "a big concession?"

You didn't quote the whole thing:

"We have no announcements on that topic today. But there are a lot of video streams we can handle. h.264 works great. We're adding HDTV streaming for audio and video. We think there's a lot of great video solutions for a single clip."

That's a BIG difference than what Apple USED to say about Adobe Flash on the iPhone:

"No."

It's a definite change in message, and it barely opens the door that flash may be coming.

Sweet! All done.

A very successful day, if you ask me. Nicely done, Apple!

Back to work...

agreed...

so to summarise (i'm in the pub on a slow wifi!)

We have copy and paste..
TomTom now won't be blocked from submitting their app, so turn by turn.
Tethering though it's going to be partially subject to each network.
MMS, great! (even if it is not the best technology, sometimes you gotta go back and pick people up before you can just drive off ;)
Landscape mode, excellent.

I'm very happy :)

At&t

A question was just asked in the Q&A session, says support is there, but waiting on networks.

AT&T needs to address some of its current network issues before offering tethering on all those iPhones out there. Of course the other option is they could make it extremely expensive which would be my guess.

Well I'm going to stomp my feet and voice my dissent as well. The original iPhone can't MMS?!?!?!? Why the hell not? That seems pretty well rooted in software as near as I can tell. I dare an Apple developer to explain to me the technical limitation for an iPhone 2G to not be able to MMS. Just what the hell can this $500 phone do?

AT+T and Apple want to get people to switch to 3G. Think of it as an incentive to get a 3G phone. Otherwise, keep your 2G phone and hope that someone figures out how to do it.

I agree with another poster that 2G iPhones will plummet in price when this comes out.

Wow. I am anything but impressed. All of these features do not equal a single digit upgrade.

I mean is it just me or does a device that has over 25k apps available for it but limits you to 144 seem wrong somehow? Would it have been too much to ask for folder support? Something that I believe started around 1984?

3.0 just adds features that most phones have been doing for several years.

Um, it does everything it did when you decided to buy it.

Not till June though.. presumably to coincide with the release of the new iphone.

I know.. what a waiting game now. AH! lol. It's going to drive me crazy. I hope none of the pictures i've seen so far are the actual new iPhone.. horribly ugly.

Maybe the announcement of the new iPhone. They would have to go through FCC approval so any new model in June would probably have to be announced today.

YESSS! MMS and Copy/Paste! Plus tons of other small, but useful features. The only problem is that I'm still using a G1 iPhone, so I guess I'll have to upgrade if they release a new one. Overall, I'm happy :)

how does mms require 3g hardware?
I could send mms messages on my old edge only walkman phone.
I have a 3g iphone but seems kinda dumb for original owners not to get it. Seems like a false limitation to tempt edge iphone owners to upgrade this summer.

It doesn't, seems to be a cop-out for getting those iPhone users (who's contract is about to run out) to upgrade.

For the record, I live an hour outside of chicago in an area completely devoid of 3G coverage. Granted I'm sure they'll get around to it eventually, but what exactly would motivate me to buy a 3G phone (added cost), upgrade my $60 / mo 2G plan to the comparable $75 3G plan when I can't even get 3G service? MMS surely won't do it. And Apple needs to be more careful about "motivating" people to upgrade because there are some competing phones out there now that are doing a decent job of getting off of AT&T's service (which I never wanted to be on in the first place).

LOL at everyone crying 'these features should have been available in the first place'.

If you've got an iPhone, you knew what you were buying.

If you haven't got one, what's the problem?

These are certainly welcome updates...

However I am little disappointed. How come these "We know everything" sites, like Engadget, or all these guests from tech media had the chance to ask an intelligent question and they ask: Why did it take so long for Copy & Paste? or What about Netbooks? or Are you working to improve Performance?

Don't tell me you did not know the answer, or lack of it, before the question was asked.

Yet, nobody asked How is Apple planning to differentiate their iPhone ecosystem to keep it "years ahead" (the way it was 2 years ago), considering that today's announcements are pretty much (80%) a "catch-up" with the rest of the crowd (at least pre-announced)?
