I'm an ADC Member. When the Free SDK is available you should be able to download it. The SDK isn't going through ADC. It's through the iPhone Dev Program.

No. I mean the 3.0 software. LAst year I remember you had to have your phone signed in some way to be able to install it. This year, he said it was available to everyone. I'm not an ADC member. I assume I will not be able to use the 3.0 software, correct?

This is awesome news for sure. I can't wait.

The biggest thing I was looking forward to was tethering, though. Unless I missed something in the peer-to-peer section (or wherever), there's no tethering?

A question was just asked in the Q&A session, says support is there, but waiting on networks.

That is a big concession from the last time that question was asked and Jobs answered flatly that Flash is not an option. Sounds like they are working on it and it may be one of those "surprises" we get when the next iPhone ships.

WHAT? Their attitude hasn't changed:

Q: What about flash?
A: How 'bout you try H.264 instead, dum dum?

You call that "a big concession?"

I'm not sure that "doing stuff it ought to have done from day 1 (or at least 2.0)" qualifies it as a "home run." They're just now officially "not behind" on the feature list. It's nice, and I'm glad this stuff is coming, but let's make no mistake—two years for a basic function like copy and paste is outright absurd, and they ought to be embarrassed.

i agree

Talking about BT P2P

"David Chartier: Second gen iPod touch can get some of that functionality unlocked, Joswiak says."

iPod Touch has a BT chip !?!

Yes, used for Nike+

I am also wondering if iPhone Standard ($99) developers will get the user features today, or just the developer features

Neither should the A2DP. The iBluetoothProject guys already determined that the 2G supports that fine. It's just to force people to upgrade.

I hope the hackers crack those features for the 2G.

Exactly. MMS works through Jailbreak...why shouldn't it work through standard OS?

All just a scam to upgrade...which I will be anyway, but that's beside the point.

"are you addressing the lag with the new OS?" frakkin' halfwit question IT's A BETA BUILD DUMMY

Well I'm going to stomp my feet and voice my dissent as well. The original iPhone can't MMS?!?!?!? Why the hell not? That seems pretty well rooted in software as near as I can tell. I dare an Apple developer to explain to me the technical limitation for an iPhone 2G to not be able to MMS. Just what the hell can this $500 phone do?

"Forstall explains what data tethering is for laptops, says tethering is supported in 3.0. Also working around carriers around the world to see when the networks can support it"

If it's free, bye Jailbreak and farewell.

Tethering isn't free on other PDA's why would it be free on the iphone?

The average consumer isn't going to even swallow this rationale.

Joe Pop won't be buying an after market iPhone, jailbreak it and try to use it on a non-authorized Telco.

I never said anything about jailbreaking. I can buy an iPhone from Vodafone at full price and use it on Vodafone's own network (or any in the world) without signing up for any contract. If I don't use the cell network, then I don't need to pay another cent to Vodafone.

... But I fear that this argument is beginning to derail the thread so I shall say no more (plus I'm late for work)

Original Iphone Cannot Do Mms Or Stereo Bluetooth? This Is Pure Bs To Get You To Buy A New Phone

and it's working on me. :D

And this is why my sig is what it is.

"David Chartier: Lot of time spent making sure it works well, explaining more of the things Apple has to spend a lot of time watching for. Profanity, children suitable content."

Oh yeah.. I know a lot of 6 year old kids who can afford an iPhone..
What a...

OK, so we've got...well, most of the features we should have had in the first place, and one which will be a year late by the time we get our hands on it. Positive update yes, as they are DOING stuff, but not fantastic. This stuff should have been there from the start.

"are you addressing the lag with the new OS?" frakkin' halfwit question IT's A BETA BUILD DUMMY

Er...yeah, ever used an iPhone?
