I'm the same way. So far, I haven't seen anything I can afford to buy. I know Apple has always been expensive. I was hoping though for a new low end Mac. But evidently not. I'm from the PC world but was really hoping to make the jump to the Mac world. But I refuse to pay those prices just to have a pretty monitor. Seems very superficial to me.

Me too. Nothing here I want. The problem is that you pay a lot for the nice LCD monitor then when it's time to upgrade the computer you have to toss out the monitor. To bad.

I still like Mac OSX. My plan now is to run Max OSX inside a VM on standrd, genaric PC hardware. This would be the best of both worlds. I can have my Xeon based minitower, Dell LCD monitor and Mac OS X all for about the price of an iMac.

The two problems with the iMac is that (1) just like a notebook they are not upgradable, and (2) there is not video input on the monitor so you can't have one screen and two devices. The iMac is really a "nitch product". Apple does not seem to have a "mainstream" computer. So DIY

I'm hoping as much as anyone to see another affordable Mac at the end (don't die, Mini!), but I doubt it. New cinema display for sure.

Now we get to yawn through iWork, still just an expensive and unfinished alternative to OpenOffice :D

Does the inclusion of an "ATI HD Graphics Card" in the new iMacs mean that they're bridging the gap between the iMacs and the Mac Pros? I'm new to Apple, so I'm not really sure about this. Seems like the iMacs are supposed to be "Pros" for average consumers.

Ignore the 'HD' - it's just marketing. They're just a new range of ATI chips that were launched 6 or so weeks ago.

I'm hoping I can choose the base model 20" but put the HD2600 in.

I reckon the Mini will just get a glossy black top, a Core2 and a price drop.

I'm extremely disappointed. My 23" HD Aluminum Display is three years old, and to date is the least updated product from Apple. For all the professionals who use Mac Pro's/Power Mac's and would like/need an update (I personally know photographers who would love an IR sensor for the Apple remote to use for showing clients work, and I personally would like a built in iSight), I feel as though Apple's constant reminder of their Pro line is just a lot of hot water. The Mac Pro line is given the least amount of attention, and for those who say it's a small market, who cares, well, that would be incorrect as there are a LOT of people in that market who care. :(

iMac G4 design beats them all

I still think the iMac G4 with the movable screen is the best design they have had so far. It still looks fabulous compared to the latest models, including this new one.

I have people popping in and out of my office all day and I am always having to turn my iMac G5 around, tilt it etc., to show them something in software or whatever. This was soo much easier with the G4 iMac.

Easier to carry, more compact, more flexible, and much more attractive. If the one I own wasn't a 300 MHz, "can't run anything but 10.3" machine, I would still be using it today and it's proven very difficult to pry the 1.2 MHz machines out of our office workers hands because they love them so much.

IMO it's the perfect "all-in-one" form factor. They should just have fixed the issues with it instead of giving it the deep six.

No, you sell on eBay. Recoup 75% of your original cost. This is what I always do when a new machine is released - I never (and for good reason!) throw away an old machine.

True. I'm guessing Apple won't sell any of them. Because the slimmer box, better materials, faster processor, and new iLife along with the reduced prices will likely appeal to no one.

Yeah, yeah. Just play with your shares and ignore valid criticisms. It's been all over the web this last month how lame a job ATI has done with that video chip.

I'm cracking up - new iWork today - and MS delayed Office Mac.

ROFL!!!!!

Toldja!

That's Ballmer's corpse under that sheet.

If iWork functions well with the Excel spreadsheets, they can wrap up MS Office on my end. I was going to purchase, but not if Apple has a good alternative.

The more I see it, the more I'm digging the new case. It looks quite nice in low light... :D

Yep- I would think there's a lot of us too. Aren't we the ones who kept them afloat through the tough times? At least I thought we were...

to each his own. I think iWork rocks - especially keynote. Whereas openoffice is feature-burdened, monolithic, slow, ugly...

New version of iWork sounds very promising. I've just closed down Pages and got a dialog box telling me I could upgrade to iWork '08 :D. Upgrade page is not available on apple.com yet though...

Edit: Same happened with Keynote so I grabbed a screenshot :)

this may be a stupid question, but if i order ilife and iwork '08 today, will it work with leopard when i eventually get it? I'm guessing there wont be 2 versions of those suites, but I just want to be sure...
