Yeah, yeah. Just play with your shares and ignore valid criticisms. It's been all over the web this last month how lame a job ATI has done with that video chip.
I own no shares, and the graphics chip means nothing at all to me as long as the system does what I need it to do, which does not involve 3D games.

I'm certain the GPU is more than adequate for my tasks. If gaming's what you're after, get a PC or a Pro, or realize that the iMac will do an adequate job on most games anyway. The form factor is why many people buy it, and shoving a GPU with it's own fan in there would adversely affect that.

You don't 'toss out your old monitor'. You sell the entire machine on eBay for about 1/2 to 2/3 of what you originally paid for it.

Wall Street is still ambivalent, which is quantitative proof that Jobs has met expectations.

Everyone here is complaining because Jobs has done such a good job of exceeding expectations that we set really high standards. Like the MBP. There was pretty much unanimous approval of that product because it exceeded our expectations.

Plus I bet these things look better in stores.

I'm cracking up - new iWork today - and MS delayed Office Mac.

ROFL!!!!!

Actually I am more excited about Office 2008 coming then this new iWork. Laugh at me...call me an idiot...whatever you want, but I want a product that I KNOW will work right when I email a file to people with Windows. You can say...convert this or convert that...but I just like something that works. That is the Apple approach.

No matter what iWork is still a lightweight compared to Office. I don't give much credit to Microsoft, but people saying that they want to force Microsoft to dump Office for the Mac is stupid. Not saying that you said it, but a lot of fanboys do.

Wireless keyboard has no numpad. As clearly seen in pictures. The end of the keyboard is curved at the corners in the same fashion as the head of the keyboard.

I don't think so MM, based on Engadget's updates he is still going.

Scratch that.

11:13AM: "We've got iLife '08, .Mac, iWork '08, all work with Tiger, all will work with Leopard when we introduce it later this year. This is what we've got for you this morning. We can do something we don't normally do because of this more intimate setting: Q&A."

I like the new look, but am I the only one upset that a $1800 computer only has 1gb of RAM? Seems like they cheaped out on this component

this may be a stupid question, but if i order ilife and iwork '08 today, will it work with leopard when i eventually get it? I'm guessing there wont be 2 versions of those suites, but I just want to be sure...
I'm certain it will work with Leopard, and likely look even better. ;)

Numbers has probably just trounced Excel, thus MS Office. Phew. I like MS Office, but it isn't worth $300+ after this.

They will work fine, Leopard is not a new OS. It's just an update.

Yep- I would think there's a lot of us too. Aren't we the ones who kept them afloat through the tough times? At least I thought we were...

For real. I have a ton of friends who are architects that currently use ACD's with their PC's as AutoCAD is PC only, and would love new displays, so there are non-Apple users who still use professional Apple products and want updates... Oh well...

I still think the iMac G4 with the movable screen is the best design they have had so far. It still looks fabulous compared to the latest models, including this new one.

<snip photo>

I have people popping in and out of my office all day and I am always having to turn my iMac G5 around, tilt it etc., to show them something in software or whatever. This was soo much easier with the G4 iMac.

Easier to carry, more compact, more flexible, and much more attractive. If the one I own wasn't a 300 MHz, "can't run anything but 10.3" machine, I would still be using it today and it's proven very difficult to pry the 1.2 MHz machines out of our office workers hands because they love them so much.

IMO it's the perfect "all-in-one" form factor. They should just have fixed the issues with it instead of giving it the deep six.

i agree with you 100%

The video card in the new iMac is a piece of trash. If gaming doesn't float your boat, you have no worries, but if you think you're going to be able to play even 1-2 year old games at the native resolution of the iMac's LCD display, think again:

The above chart shows the results of a Prey timedemo running at 1600x1200. Prey was released over a year ago and is based on the Doom 3 engine, which was released in 2004. Since the result of a timedemo is an average framerate, you want to see results of 50-60 fps so that you can be sure you're not dipping down below 30 fps very often (which would cause the game to stutter). As you can see, the Radeon HD 2400 XT is at the very bottom of the chart with 14 fps, and the 2600 Pro is second to last with 25 fps. Note that the 2600 Pro does not even run the game as fast as the nVidia 7600 GT that was available in the last-generation 24'' iMac.

So much for Apple's games initiative... what a load of crock.
