iOS 12 needs to do this;

- Revamp and totally update the horrid outdated Notification system across iOS.

- Create an AoD ( Always on Display ) type of thing for the OLED iPhone's. Right now if your leave the room with your phone on the desk, and come back, walking next to the phone, you have no idea if you have a missed call or missed e-mail, text, etc... you have actually activate the screen yourself by either Face ID or Touch ID to check. But with AoD it would be so much convenient and nicer.

You can just tap the screen or move the phone. No need to unlock to see if you have any notifications

Kind of missed my point. If you leave your phone on the desk, go to the washroom or grab a drink and come back a few minutes later. It's nice to see the phone on the desk with an AoD showing a missed call or missed text, or at least a blinking notification light like Blackberry does. And if there's no missed calls or something, the phone is still a dark off screen.

It's just nice to walk by the phone, without having to actually pick it up or tap it or anything.

Either they're changing to showing off things earlier than normal, or they're getting worse at shipping on time. Not sure which. Probably the latter?

Good question. Suspect the latter - can’t believe they wanted to miss Christmas for HomePod or take this long with AirPower. Anyway. We will know much more in the next hour or so.

iOS notifications just suck in general. They're just really bad.

You can tell this is a really rushed feature in iOS 11 as sometimes you'll pull down from the top and it'll briefly display the lockscreen as if it wasn't unlocked.

Not sure I have much confidence in Apple fixing this though, notifications have sucked for literally years.

No way! I can't think of any company that builds hardware better than Apple. Look at their motherboard designs. MacBook motherboard is smaller than a raspberry pie. They are pretty thorough when it comes to the tech behind the product. People might not like the specs though...

If it was such great hardware, why do you only get a 1 year warranty on a $5,000 computer, why did they not even use there own "server" products in their data centres, why did Job's not have Pixar using Mac's for their animations? Because they weren't and aren't any better than anyone else.

People take more care of a Mac because you pay so much more. If people treated the Apple Laptop'slike they would a Windows laptop, it would last the same length of time.

Thorough behind the tech? They have been caught repeatedly using duff parts - which they knew about before the product was released. Then tried to cover it up by lying.

Apple do not make better products, better looking yes.

On the off chance that Apple does indeed announce new ipad pros today...my credit card is out of my wallet and ready.

You can usually tell when they shut down parts of the store a few hours before the keynote of major events. That hasn’t happened.

One doesn't need a gut to know that there's going to be a lot of complaining. There's ALWAYS a lot of complaining after WWDC. :p

Regarding this "software only" thing. Apple has a history of announcing hardware at WWDC. Hint: when was the 10.5 iPad Pro announced? But if it helps you to think this is, and always has been, about software, rock on.

As for adjusting one's expectations, why? I expect Apple to "wow" me... to announce products and services that I need that I didn't know I need. Will they disappoint me? Probably. So what. Mature people can handle disappointment properly without having a meltdown.

They had a four year period where they didn’t announce any hardware though, didn’t they? Last year was the first time in a while I believe. It just amazes me how many see this as some hardware event, expecting hardware every year isn’t realistic, I think they just expect so due to major past announcements like the iPhone 4, retina MacBook Pro, Mac Pro etc. I guess I am just trying to calm the potential storm down but I guess there will be one regardless.

I think this is the first time I am not excited too much about today's WWDC. I will actually go running and doing some sports and check the news and announcements later.
Maybe because I don't feel iOS is getting such amazing updates - nothing has changed in the way I used my iphone or my Macs.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but I feel that in the new context - OS Updates tend to be less of an OMG factor for me. In the end it's the apps that I used and they are not many.

Looking forward though for a full Dark UI. Maybe maybe....

For those of you getting excited - Have fun! Let's see what they come up with.

Cheers!

Apple better not drop iOS support for the iPhone 6. :(
That would be pretty weird if iOS wasn't on iPhone 6. I kid. I know what you mean. The iPhone 5s still supports iOS 11, so iPhone 6 will still be supported on iOS 12, and iPhone 5s will likely be cut today.

I suppose there's an outside chance that they don't bring the store down because they've actually managed to keep something secret. But I won't hold my breath. There is no reason to bring the store down in 2018 except for hype. I'm a web developer/designer.
[doublepost=1528130290][/doublepost]What type of boring video do you guys think we'll have to sit through for the first five minutes of the keynote this year? My money is on kids coding.

Only way Apple could get me to leave stock Android would be a major overhaul of the Notification system, and some sort of AoD ( Always on Display ) mode. If not, then I am more than happy with Android P on my Pixel 2 XL.

It boggles my mind Apple doesn't seem concerned or care that the notification system in iOS is severely lacking, and just pure garbage. But sales are still huge for the iPhone, so I guess I am in the very low .001% that does care.

Is the only way to watch the conference on Apple TV to 'cast' it (from a Mac I suppose) to the ATV via airplay?

I started the WWDC app and expected a big banner for the livestream front and center, but there was nothing at all.
