Murph, you little beauty.....

Any win at Old Trafford is a good win, but to gain a penalty there is unheard of.... ;)

C'mon you Reds!!!!

who could've written that ne any better eh??? Murphy, United's nemesis, with a penalty, that was so clear cut, by one of the ugly Neville brothers, at the Theatre of Silence.

superb!

oh how the pub roared when that one went in! the only time this season where we actually more than one or two people singing, and oh were we singing today! :D :D :D

Elle Eye Vee ... Ee Are Pee ... Double Oh Elle .. Liverpool F C

That was the first penalty scored against ManUre at Old Trafford in 10 years, and only the forth awarded...

Four penalties in 10 years, and the bloody Mancs have the nerve to say they don't get a a fair crack from the refs..... :p

doesn't seem possible does it?? i mean, it's not as if they're a fair team, not committing fouls, i.e. no penalties against...they're dirty bastards, and if i hear one complaint from any of them about it not being a penalty, i'm likely to .... well, i dunno, explode probably haha.

good ol' Danny Boy!! that's the 3rd time he's scored the winning goal against ManUre :)

speaking of 10 years.....

this weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the last stand of the Kop, as it were. gone are the days when the ball was sucked into the back of the net, and the away keeper feared defending that goal.

we need to stuff middlesborough in the morning....i'll be cheering the lads on from the pub, with my breakfast pints of the black stuff.

alles les rouges!

Man City really did us a favour today, I feel it's almost in our own hands now (yeah, I know Newcastle have a game in hand, but it's against US at Anfield....).

We have to win everything, a draw will cost Le Boss his job, and the team some of their best players.

No pressure then.....

Phew!!

Yeah, great result today. Well done Man City! Let's hope Newcastle wins the UEFA cup (because I like Bobby), but because of it loses all their strength to win the next couple of games!
I still don't like Murphy (gives the ball away way too much) but what a brilliant penalty taker! I suppose he deserves to play in the next game for that goal alone.

City defo did us grand...makes things a little less nerve-wracking now.

and as for murphy, well, he's one of the few i'd keep this summer, along with the other england boys, gerrard (of course), owen (needs a kick up the ass that a new manager will provide), and carragher (gives 110% every game). as for heskey, he may come good with a new boss, he has the potential, when houllier had a go at him a while back he was awesome immediately after.

and yeah, three winning goals against utd?? danny boy deserves his place. but then if we cheer too much for the guy hou'll get rid of him, like jari, and otsemobor etc etc. i'm gonna stop before i type waayyyyyy too much on this subject!

just over 14 hours to go!!!!

Wow that makes me feel old! I can remember being there that day, and things haven't seemed to really change since. We still need a new boss dammit.

Well, Murph can carry on taking penalties like that as long as he likes. Good goal by Heskey to, the donkey kicks sometimes eh?

I thought the last 30 mins were dreadful, I know they had to win, but it was dire grinding stuff.

Lets get Birmingham out if the way and then bring on Newcastle, lets hope it lives up to the 4-3 monsters of yesteryear... :D

Ooohh yeah.... I remember those beauties.
I believe Liverpool should be able to do it. Its great that at the end of a season there still are a couple of battles going on! Good luck to ya! Tough luck on Leeds though....

I wonder, will super Arsenal end the season unbeaten??? Just 3 more to go!

yeah i didn't hardly watch the last half hour, was chatting and just glancing up at the screen when the volume rose a bit....first half was awesome, if we play like that every game, i kinda don't care what the result is...as long as we have the heart.

I think that's probably 3 games in 6 days... ;) :D

I don't think they can do it, beating Brum has left us in a very strong position, Newcastle have to win both games midweek to be level but behind on goal difference going into the Anfield game, either way they are going to have to beat us to take 4th.

I don't like the "we only need a draw" option, I can see 0-0 with 5 mins to go and Shearer rising in the area to meet a well weighted corner.....

Alternativley, Stevie cracks one in on the half-hour from 30 yards, Kewell finds the top corner from an impossible angle just on the break and Owen bags a brace in the second half. We stay 4th and win the CL next year... :D

oh yeah, oops. :)

Newcastle only need a win and a draw before they meet us, that's easily possible. they need a win against us regardless, unless they stick a bundle of goals away in their two games in hand, which again, they could do.

but yeah, i don't like the "we need a draw" either....

let's see what they do today...

Shearer misses late penalty and Wolves give them a bit of a hard time.

I'm feeling better about this now, having to win away at Southampton is bad enough, but they haven't won at Anfield in years.....

It's most definitely in our own hands now, if we f*ck this up, Houllier and Owen are history for sure.

I cannot believe Shearer missed that penalty. During the Liverpool game we were talking about panelty takers, and how he was probably one of, if not, the best.

so it looks like that Thai Prime Minister is going to buy a big stake in our club :( if he was a fan, then it wouldn't be so bad, but this is a quote from one of his staff ...

"I'm not sure if the prime minister is really a Liverpool fan," he added. "He says he is but when Manchester United were here, he said he supported them."

not good.

Back in the Champions league!!!

Newcastle only manage a 3-3 draw at Southampton, handing us the 4th spot... :D :D :D

OK, we still have to qualify, but the last game won't be a repeat of the Chelsea game last season.

...and it looks like we might have some cash to play with over the summer too. :D

and about bloody time too...let's hope we can stay in it and not get knocked into the UEFA cup. not sure i like this buying shares business....i sincerely hope that Thaksin President guy isn't successful. i wouldn't mind so much, but he tried to buy Fulham first! and he's a Manc fan, really.

bit of a shame that we couldn't end Newcastle's hopes, would've been a cracker, still could be i'm sure.

well, Eur'04 next, then i'll be in one of the best seats for the Roma and Celtic games july/august time :D hah! can't wait, maybe we'll see a new manager by then...we can dream can't we?

so the season ended but three days ago, and already Heskey is off to Birmingham City, and we will soon have a big Thai investment.

i hope it does not go through, the guy is a c***. as for the board not liking Morgan's proposal, well, fair enough, but "it didn't reflect the true value of the club" WHAT??? and the Thai Government does??? they don't give a flying f*** what club they buy into, and that is no the sort of thing i want happening to my club! grrr, i am not freakin' happy

HOLY ****!!!!!!

Houllier has been fired! the first sacking of a manager in Liverpool's history!

soccernet story here

i never thought i'd see the day...

Not quite. :) First sacking in 50 odd years. Although neither the club nor Houllier have used that word. They seem to describe this as being mutual, though we all know it wasn't.
Houllier definitely took us forward compared to the state we were in 6 years ago. Let's hope the new guy, whoever it is (I hope it ain't Curbishly!) works well with the core of the team that Houllier laid, gets rid of the crap ones and brings in some great players to blend in and win us the title!
I want Big Sam!

I'm not sure how I feel about this, I always thought Le Boss was good for Liverpool, but I really thought the fight went out of him after the heart scare.

Liverpool are in good shape now, sure a few players could go and not be missed (Smicers days are surely numbered) and there are some grey areas in the squad, but overall the team needs direction and inspiration.

Any team that numbers Stevie Gerrard and Micheal Owen in it's midst isn't short of talent, and Stevie G's performance in the latter part of the season was unbelievable.

Who's next then? I don't think it will be the obvious choices, O'neal won't leave Celtic, much as i think he's probably the best candidate...

I have a feeling there is more to this Thai deal than meets the eye, and I think Le Bosses dismissal is tied into that.

In the end Liverpool FC deserve to be playing and winning in the competitions they used to excel in, particularly the Champions League.

As Gerrard Houllier himself said, the club is mor eimportant than a single man.

Cheers GH, it was a blast. :D :( :D :(
