The VERY bloated Options+ software is exactly the reason I don't use Logitech devices. It would be nice if they had a simple background app that only managed the hardware instead of a ginormous app that sucks up resources and requires daily updates.
I still just use the old Options (non-plus) app. Does everything I need.

This is exactly it. I've stopped allowing people to put this in their personal calendars, its shared team/department calendar only.
Same here, we do it that way because otherwise they get missed.

The "forever mouse" will be bricked by a certificate expiry.

As long as the mouse doesn’t need software installed to do its basic task, then not a problem. More likely you’d want to replace the mouse over time as they wear out, just like keyboards do.

Maybe Logitech can apologize by dropping the price of the 'Mac edition' Master 3S/4 mice by the cost of the Logi Bolt that isn't included in the box?

I hate to admit it but I fought this issue last night for a couple hours. I had no idea it was a certificate problem as I completely wiped the app and reinstalled it 3 times. I got so frustrated with all the crap that I wiped it one final time and installed "Mac Mouse Fix". It was a 3 dollar native Mac app and my 3S is working great again without all the bloat.

The Logitech issue felt like something on the server side but I couldn't put my finger on it. I would hope software developers would give a more robust error message than a purple screen with spinning wheel indicator.

Not for a company this size. This should not rest on one person but should be on a calendar/ To do list. This is not a mom and pop shop, Logitech is worth almost $13 billion. I have not used my PC in a few days so I am assuming I will have to do some fixing for my mouse. Not angry about it, first world problems. I do wonder how this slipped though.
You will be shocked and probably lose all confidence in car safety systems if I tell you what people and companies forget to do or the really silly mistakes they make in the automotive industry, no matter the size of the company.

I’m not surprised a bit.

I dont want to rely on an online service to be able to do a back click in Safari from my mouse.
I have the Logi MX mouse. Haven’t used my Mac in the last several days but will now be on the lookout for this tomorrow when I get back

Thanks Logitech for reminding me to replace your mouse with the new redesigned Apple Magic Mouse when it comes out.

It's okay, it's garbage anyway. Like it nags me to log in to use smart actions at all, then forgets to sync them anyway, have to redo them after a reinstall. Good stuff.

Yep. Turns out human beings make mistakes. Who knew?

The Master series never worked on M-Chips devices. The scrolling is jittery.

I’m pretty sure yesterday I scrolled in regular form without noticing because Options+ wasn’t running in the background. Thought that setting would be stored onboard, maybe it is? Just felt something was super off with my mouse yesterday.

In addition, last night, my M3 MBP just felt super sluggish and laggy on Chrome so I opened activity monitor and noticed both G HUB and Options+ updater process using over 40% CPU, and their respective apps around 20% which did not load. I uninstalled G HUB since my Super Light is used on my gaming PC, and Options+ didn’t want to open so I just gave up.

I grabbed my first ever MX Master series mouse last year and couldn’t understand how nobody noticed the jittery lag when scrolling. After some research I stumbled upon Mos, it required some tinkering but I’m happy now.

My boss has a Logitech keyboard.

It has no lights whatsoever to indicate if caps lock is on or off.

Aside from that, the typing experience is miserable. I'm a good typist with a very good accuracy level. When I type on that keyboard, it makes me a very lousy typist.

Granted, this is Windows.

Very rarely, I have to use my boss's computer. I have developed a special hatred for Logitech based on my experience with that keyboard alone.

This exact issue (cert expiration) has plagued all companies/corporations, whether you've known about it or not. Logitech did the right thing by fixing it quickly and communicating the root cause.

If you appreciate secure connectivity, validated software updates and trusted runtime execution, certs are a necessary evil.

Should you run a mouse that requires software at all? Different argument/issue altogether.

Exactly. After five years nobody still notices it.

they had no choice to own up to it or be completely vilified. their size and brand required better and no, it has not affected all brands. i don't recall the last time a major brand of some caliber had such a disaster that required such a manual fix by consumers (one itself that is not elegant).

agreed on the mouse software requirement but i generally need those button customizations.

Not necessarily as 'customer-facing' as this debacle, but I assure you expired certificates has affected all companies in some form or fashion at some point. Agree that this needed to come out because of how large the customer-facing software install base is. That's what makes it unique, but certificate management is a problem across the board.

This just adds another item to my list of reasons I won’t install Logi Options+ for my MX Anywhere 3S.

I’m much happier having uninstalled it weeks ago.

I really dont want to depend on the Logi software but i swap multiple times between a mac and windows device that i need the software

This is why I use Keychron M6 over Logitech... connected cloud base device is dumb.

Why does an already installed (verified at install time) software stop functioning because of something the developer forget to do?

What happens if a company goes out of business, then Apple can just stop already installed software from working?
exactly. Mouse functionality should not be gate-kept by an internet connection. This mean LogiTech can brick my hardware whenever they want? Noe of this makes sense
