I have to wonder about anyone who will stand in a line like this to get a product, any product. I remember the people waiting in line at midnight to get Windows 95; what an awesome product that was (LOL!). They act like it's going to be a turning point in their lives or something. "I used to be a complete failure, but now I have [Windows 95, iPhone, etc.]!"
Are they still clapping as people buy them?

Amen!

Ha. I'm just wondering if AT&T will truly let more orders be placed on June 29th like their website. I was a silly goose and didn't pre order.

A bunch of idiots waiting in line for a defective product...

I normally don't feed the trolls, but this is ridiculous...

Do you have an iPhone 4 or are you just basing your opinion on a video and message board whiners?

My iPhone may become defective- who knows.

But in the meantime it's a beautiful device, with a few shortcomings. But nothing earth-shatteringly devastating.

I've never done it ... but I can imagine that it's a fun environment ... bring a few beers and relax/chat with the people in line.

If the weather is nice, why not ... it beats being at work.

June 25th

I stopped by my local Apple Store yesterday afternoon to kill time, and was basically told where I was in line had almost zero chance of getting a phone. That was at around 1pm EST. I decided to stop in this morning at 8 when they opened, just for laughs, not expecting much. To my surprise, there was about a dozen people already in line. I decided to wait it out and when I got in they had about 20 units still in stock. 16gbs and 32gbs. I grabbed mine without any problems and when I left there were 3 people still waiting, who I'm certain got what they came for. I was shocked, but it paid off to take a chance. Should have gotten 2 and tossed one on eBay and made a few bucks :)

Just wanted to add that a guy standing behind me preordered yesterday and got a confirmation to pick up today! He showed me his email on his 3GS. I guess it depends on the store and the stock. I'm in a medium sized market (Buffalo, NY) so our Apple Store gets more stock than buyers. Got 2 iPads opening day also, no preorder. Take a chance. Doesn't hurt to try!

How does other people waiting in line for any product effect you in any way?

Why do you care what other people do...how does what they do effect you?

Hey, to each their own. I did the first two launches and it was a lot of fun. Met several great people and just enjoyed the atmosphere. Skipped getting the 3G and pre-ordered the iPhone 4. Didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of lines. But, I'm glad I went through the experience a couple of times. If people want to do it, what' the big deal?

I work in London and got up at 4:30am yesterday and got one of the first 32GB iPhone 4's from my nearest store. If there had been a 10 hour queue (like my friend was in at Trafford Centre Manchester) I would have walked away.

People say I was mad to get up that early, but there is something about the atmosphere and just having a laugh in the queue. People get up and travel for 5 hours to go and see their football team play or travel to South Africa for the World Cup. Me I'm into tech. Horses for courses.

I had a few hours of fun and walked away with something I wanted.

i remember standing in line for the first gen phone. had to drive 2 hours to get there. left work early. it rained while i was in line. my husband and son had taken off in the car somewhere so i stayed dry in the car of my line neighbor. i also remember after my purchase being escorted to my car by a cop. it wasn't a bad part of town at all, either. there was just so much incredible hype pre-launch, people didn't know what to expect. ahh... good times!!

i will never (n.e.v.e.r.) understand why my dad sold his apple stock. **shakes head**

Similar story here. I waited for two hours at the o2 Store near Bond Street station. Ended up having some really nice conversations, especially with one lady who was behind me in the queue. It's just fun to get excited about something, however silly it may be. A few years back I'd be up at 4am for Christmas. Now it's for new tech toys or the like.

mmmmm wait some more and watch AAPL stock fall after 50% of 1.5mil faulty iphone4 units get returned or to be "fixed"....... then buy again! :)

your dad is wise!

mmmm Ya right! Poor people just can't stand seeing others happy.

Hopefully, that's not the queue of people returning the iPhone 4 they bought yesterday (or to buy bumper cases!) :p

I called by the Regent Street shop 3 times yesterday, and finally was offered a card that guaranteed my reservation until COB today. I returned at 9am and was out the door, complete with iPhone and bumper in under 45 minutes.

I need to get a Micro SIM now from Vodafone which is harder than I expected though....

To each their own. Plenty of people line up for hours or even days to be the first to see a big title movie or buy tickets to a rock concert. This really isn't any different, it's their time and their money so who are we to judge what they do with it. I don't see the point in waisting money going to night clubs or bars and drinking, but I certainly don't begrudge those who do.

Wow...

Humans have never looked more like cattle. So much for "Think Different."

I can understand the excitement the first time around, maybe. But now it's just a sad comment on our vacant society.

Have a good day!:D
