To be perfectly fair and honest? Based on hind site?

Yes, I think he picked a crappy team. Without Steve job's to lead the team and be the guy who said "No" or "yes" and controlled the people under him, the current leadership team seems to be very stuck in a mindset that They are always right, because they've been right in the past. I think many of the people he picked for the team, without him directing them, are pathetically lost.

This is Hubris. The current executive team seems very VERY full of Hubris lately.

I think most people would agree that there's no one in the world that's like Steve Jobs. So even if the prophet Steve Jobs himself couldn't find a better replacement, who do you think is?

Well if you suck making the same thing (iphone) or garbage (apple watch) you would head out also.

I'm not in a position to make that decision.

I don't think any of these people are bad people. I think that any company would be well off having Tim Cook as a COO, supply line guy. However, he doesn't seem to be capable of truly leading.

I also think that Ive can come up with decent design, if there's someone to clearly tell him "no" or to set expectations for him.

Schiller in charge of the computers seems very out of touch. Even after the MacBook Pro announcement and the backlash it did receive, he was unable to understand at all why there was doubt about the machine. Despite many well thought out reviews and posts around the internet pointing out the shortcomings, he still was completely baffled that everyone didn't love the device like he did.

I could go on :p

these people are not bad people to work. But as leadership without a "jobs' like personality, they're not in control and seem to just be coasting.

Now, I don't personally have a name that could just drop in to CEO role and do what jobs' did. These people are few and far between.

But the way I'm seeing Apple right now, is very similar to Microsoft under Balmer. A lot of momentum and great products to ride on. But most things released are not up to the previous lustre and none of it is truly forward thinking. it took over a decade before Balmer was replaced with a "Visionary". Balmer's Microsoft was also extremely profitable and financially succesful, But I don't think anyone, even Microsoft Fanboys are going to tell you that Balmer's Microsoft was a pinnacle of their success.

Working anywhere for 20 years sucks. Good for him. There's more to life than thinner, glue & solder.

While I agree, there's more to life than just one thing, I've worked with people who've been in the same job for 30+ years (schools). I don't know about you or your job, but there's something about seeing the lightbulb go on inside of a kid's head that never gets old.

I mean, you can't really read too much into this. I don't care if you're working for Apple or anyone else, sometimes you just need to do something different. Or take a break, at least. Good for him.

20 years. wow. That's a shame to lose such an experienced designer. I'm suprised the other designer left Apple for GoPro.
I'm not surprised. GoPro seems to be one of the few places where he could create fresh new designs for a great tech product. Since iPhone 6 Apple is stuck. Without Steve, Ive has no idea where to go. Apple just makes everything thinner and more and more soap-like. This design was cool 10 years ago but now it's just soulless and boring.

20 years ago Apple's products design constantly evolved. From the first cool transluscent iMacs, to the sunflower iMac, to the modern iMac. From similarly cool clear plastic PowerMac Pro, to the ubercool steel PowerMac, and the original Cube. From colorful iBooks to stylish plastic white iBooks, to steel "pro looking" PowerBooks. Design always evolved and everytime it was better and more modern and a little ahead of its time than before. It was brave. And it always made a trend. I still have some products from those years (like noname radios, calculators) inspired by the colorful transluscent design of the first iMac and then later by the thick clear plastic of the sunflower iMac and the PowerMac.
And it all happened in less than 10 years! But in the last 10 years for Macs and 4 years for iPhone nothing really changed in its design. Products just become thinner and lose ports and that's basically all. That's boring. That's uninspiring. No surprise designers are leaving.

And, guessing by this trend, probably the next iPhone isn't a breakthrough in design either.

Considering GoPro's performance lately, I wouldn't work there.

People do love the MBPs.....I'm very confused.

Tim Cook is Steve Ballmer? Uh no. Can you point me to where Cook made a $8B acquisition that failed miserably?

I think you and all other critics share the same mindset that Apple needs another "iPhone" to stay relevant when that's far from the truth.

3 years.

Also an industrial designer wouldn't be worth his/her salt if he/she only cared about the exterior.
You'll see same design this year alongside iPhone X. If exterior isn't evolving, the interior is not evolving much either.

He has simply decided to take it easy, call it early retirement, planned for a while and nothing sudden as I've heard it.

He is English as is Ive and as tenuous as this is my Dad meets his Dad once a week over a cup of tea in the UK. :)

Perhaps he was tired of having to do his work on a 2013 Mac Pro, and went to work for a company which provides its employees with more up-to-date tools! ;)

Wow, you think Apple uses Mac Pro's in house? Even Timmy isn't that stupid.

Well, it's rumored that Apple purchased Siri in 2010 for north of 200M. While that's a far cry from 8B, one could say that Siri has failed miserably since Apple acquired the company nearly 7 years ago.

Sad though it is to say, I suspect Siri as a product would've been far more powerful than it is today had it not been purchased by Apple. Although, that power likely would've never been realized on an iOS device because Siri would be incredibly limited on iOS had Apple not purchased it -- just like Cortana is.

Wait...who? If you said any player from the Cavaliers I would understand, but the Apple roster that I know is really small...basically anyone who goes on stage.
