Look how big Apple Watch Ultra is on a small wrist!

View attachment 2052382Look how massive a 49mm watch is on a smaller wrist. Straight on would be much worse which is why they only showed those angles with large male wrists.
It does look unwieldy, but let's remember that *IF* this watch is worn in certain extreme situations, then it will be on top of thick clothing or a wet suit. It's odd look here is because it's on a bare arm (which it might be if the person is running in triathlons) but in many cases it might not look so odd. And, as others have said, it's not *meant* to be worn as a fashion statement...but then, who knows. People seem to be going pretty crazy for it; maybe it'll start a fashion trend? Huge watches on little wrists? 😁

Why no other colors? I'd do it in midnight. That thing is huge, I'd love to see the flat face on the 8.

Possibly the material of its casing--which remember is made to be super tough--limited the colors or, possibly because when they tried out colors those colors didn't stand up so well to extreme conditions. Or (most likely), as this is "first generation" Ultra, Apple cautiously kept colors limited to see how well the watch would do. You create a lot of colors after you know that something is popular and people want it in more colors.

Such a great idea. I want one.

Funny, I was so concerned about how the 41mm would fit. But this? it's a whole new thing. I want to make the statement also:

Watch out!

Yes it is a large watch. That is exactly what you want for outdoor extreme activities. This is the best thing announced at todays event I have ordered one and can not wait to start using it. I never thought I would be using a Apple Watch as my dive computer!

In your opinion of course 😉
Obviously! It goes without saying that everything we read on forums are personal opinions. However, in general, there are well established aesthetic "rules" out there. Think about wearing flip flops with a tuxedo at a formal (black tie) event. Could you do it? Of course you could. But is it aesthetically pleasing or even sending a negative message? Of course it does. Just because one likes it and doesn't care what others say, doesn't mean people won't judge and form an opinion about the person, based on appearances. Wearing too big of a watch is not in the same league as wearing flip flops with tuxedo, but personally I do form an opinion about the person's taste and considerations to design and aesthetics. It doesn't matter, of course...unless it matters :)

I think it is interesting that so many claim to be interested in other people's wrists. I never notice anyone else's watch. I just don't care what other people are wearing and I don't notice it. I was in a meeting today with 45 other people and I could not tell you whether any one of them was wearing a watch - let alone which watch
You'll be amazed how many people (especially women) notice things about your appearance. And that includes what watch you wear, shoes etc. I, being passionate about watches, look a lot around at people's wrists :)

It’s BLING baby! Going to be the next big urban thing, and I’m all in.

Watches purchases have long been such a personal choice, especially with respect to size. Often, product images don’t tell the full story. I have found that with mechanical watches, that thickness makes more of a difference than case diameter. Excessive thickness that causes you to constantly bang your watch face into various objects that scuff and ding titanium is a larger (pun) problem than width. This thing is a bit thick, but not as bad as many automatic chronometers.

Bottom line, it is worthwhile to try the watch on and see for yourself. Personally, large watches on smaller female wrists seems fashionable and can be an endearing look.

Obviously for workouts, hiking, diving, etc, the band must be able to secure the watch on the users wrist.

I have a wrist made for 40-42mm watches, but my last two have both been 46mm, because I like the bigger screen/larger battery. They look big on the wrist, but not ridiculous. While I wouldn't wear a 49mm watch as a daily driver, I would definitely not be swayed in buying one to wear hiking/backpacking if it was what I wanted.

Sir, with all due respect, in this case, it’s more than just “your opinion“. I can vouch for the original post, and with others who also have small wrists. This is something Apple should definitely consider, especially if they want more money from me.
I ordered the Ultra, but I am not sure if I will keep it. If it was 45 (or maybe even 47) it would have been a no brainier. But to do that, they will need to reduce the bezel or the screen will be about the size of the 41 mm watch.

There are any number of reasons why a person would not like any given watch on their wrist. If you're using the features while long distance biking, you won't care. But if you don't use it for that and you don't like it for fashion... then you get a different Apple Watch. The Ultra is not the new Apple Watch design they are expecting everyone to get on board with. The others still exist.

Just because one likes it and doesn't care what others say, doesn't mean people won't judge and form an opinion about the person, based on appearances.
Very true, but aesthetics and opinion change, and very quickly. Ripped jeans were considered unacceptable to wear even to the grocery store, and now they're worn nearly everywhere. So, yes, people always form opinions about a person based on appearances. But people also (1) take into account the situation (meeting someone wearing torn jeans at a coffee house won't set off the alarm bells the same way as meeting someone in torn jeans at a high-end restaurant), and (2) opinions can change with fashion trends. What made people cringe before (torn jeans worn anywhere) now doesn't even make them blink.

So, there is a possibility that a big watch on a small wrist, which now makes you cringe, will only make you shrug in a year or two. We'll see.

Yeah I like the way it looks but the thickness is a little too much. I know it’s a bigger display but I think the thickness is gonna be the deciding factor in not getting it.
