Boog Viper M for 14" iBook?

Looking for a sleeve for my wife's new iBook 14". I came across the boog sleeve Viper M. Seems to be for 15" but when I go to the site and click on 14" sleeves this one comes up. I really, really like the style of this sleeve but am a bit fearfull that it's not specifically for 14" iBooks. Anyone have any experience with this? Hmmm, maybe I should email Boog. Cheers

Also looking for case for a 14in ibook

So I think i need a little guidance here. I was thinking of buying a bookbag case but I feel like they are less protective of the laptop. The back of the bookbag seems kind of weak, is this just the models I have looked at or is it not an issue? Also does a sleeve serve any other purpose than keep off dust and such?

i've got a bit of a bag collection for my powerbook (an acme sleeve, the booq mamba xs, powersleeve 12, and a boa xl). oh, and a radtech powersleeve. and i'm thinking of getting a crumpler wee bee as well. i think i have bag acquisition issues.

a little more detail would be helpful. what kind of book bag were you looking at (brand, style, etc.)? what else will you be carrying with your laptop and where (school, work, other)? do you mean a sleeve case or a thin sleeve (like the radtech powersleeve)?

Got the Boog Viper M. Even though it says it's for the 14" iBook it seems just a tad big. Otherwise it seems like good protection. My wife says that she wished it had a handle and a pocket for her mouse. Geeeeez, I wanted to get her an actual bag but she said that she just wanted a sleeve. Oh well, bag will probably be next. FYI, shipping was fast. All in all a good experience. Boog does have a sleeve for a 15" PB that "fits like a glove". That's my next project ;) . Cheers

MacCase 12" pbook/ibook sleeve

I picked up a maccase 12" sleeve for $25--this is at the bottom end of sleeves and you get what you pay for.

http://www.jambags.com/MacCase Sleeves.htm

It certainly isn't a bad case, but it is quite thin and light so it's not for shock protection. It also is partially open at the end and has a grill on the bottom so not waterproof either (though the openings probably help heat dissipation if you leave your pbook/ibook in sleep mode).

I just needed a sleeve so I could fit my laptop in my backpack's nook (meant for larger notebooks) without it being loose. So this sleeve does the job perfectly.

Summary: if you need a cheap sleeve to prevent scratches and scuffs while your laptop is in a briefcase, backpack, etc., this does the job perfectly. But if you need more serious protection, especially when you carry just the laptop alone, get a more rugged case.

I'm waiting for my new 15" PB to leave China right now, so I need atleast a sleeve for it. I have one that came with my moms laptop briefcase (she got it at target, it fits a 14" iBook perfectly) but I don't know if it'll be too small for the PB. I actually want a bag too, since I just have a canvas army messenger bag thats about 16" wide, so with all my textbooks and stuff, I'm not sure if it'll be big enough.

Ok, so heres where I get picky. I like the crumpler bags due to the fact that they're not stiff. I HATE stiff bags. But they are a little too expensive. Something like the wonder weenie or the very busy man. Only ALL BLACK. hahahah. I know. I should probably just stick with my bag and buy a sleeve. I think the maccase is ok and in my price range but I'd get a different sleeve.

No one's mentioned Brenthaven!

Well I'm very picky about my bags. Up until recently Brenthaven only made rock-solid, indestructable black bags, that were about as exciting as my kid brother's mashed grapes.

But this new urban bag is my perfect bag. Well worth the price, it has this cool zipper design that fits a 14" iBook, 15" or 12" Powerbook... and easily a 13.3" in the future... (I can only dream).

I could just be a sucker for earthtone messenger bags, but I really think Brenthaven got it right this time.

Hi, I have a bit of an odd request. I want a sleve or case that actually goes on a 12" PowerBook- somehow- so that I can keep it on when using the PB. I saw the Biolithic- but it looks like you need to take of the top cover to open the computer. Can anyone vouch for this or recommend other models? Thanks.

Why not a Powersleeve 15 for a 15" PB?

Mem said:
Just thought I'd mention that I got my Booq Powersleeve 14 for my 15 in Powerbook and am very pleased with it. It shipped the same day I ordered it and Booq customer service was very helpful. A few things about the Sleeve itself:

(EDIT)

Cons:
Top is just a flap that comes down and buckles-leaves a bit of the PB exposed.
I would prefer a sturdier buckle-this one is just plastic and not the one that's pictured on the website. It's not very substantial, but luckily it doesn't support much of the PB's weight.

Would a PS15 not solve the PB 'exposure' issue?

I've done a fair bit of research and am stuck at whether to go for a PS 14/15 or thinner sleeve like a Tucano Second Skin. Anyone tried the PS 15 with a PB 15?

Cheers

Couldn't wait for the G5 any longer as my display went crazy and they wanted minimum $500 to fix it.....gave in...got the new G4 superdrive and loving it so far....was wondering about personalizing it...any ideas? Love to do something sleek/classy or funky to the exterior...Also on my old G4 I had a great handle put on that served as a stand also- anyone know about putting a handle on the new one - doesn't seem to be a place for it.

I got a Shinza sleeve. It's got great shock protection and is black with only a tiny a logo. Both a big plus for me. It was 40 bucks.

I just bought a refurbished iBook 12" from the Apple Store yesterday, but I am looking for a sleeve now. I would like something thin, but with enough padding. I will be attending the UW next year, but I think if I get a sleeve I can just throw it in my backpack which is already waterproofed. Anyways, I saw that Macally is coming out with a new memory foam sleeve, and I like the looks but am worried about the protection. I've narrowed my choices down to about 4 sleeves and would appreciate any comments you might have on these sleeves.

1. Booq Vyper XS- Heard it fits good, but out of stock until mid-April and do the zippers scratch the iBook?

2. Macally 12" iBook Neoprene Memory Foam Case - Looks very good, and great price, but worried about protection from memory foam

3. Spire USA Boot- Looks ok, but haven't heard much feedback about it

4. InCase iBook sleeve- Looks very nice, but is it really worth the high price ($50)?

Thanks in Advance, all of you give great advice! :D

I've no experience with the 4 you listed, however, protection was my #1 concern as well for my new PB. The Shinza is actually 29.95 and is built really well. It's got extra padding on all four edges and seems very well built. Of course the ultimate test would be dropping it but.... :D

mine

My 2 cents
I actually bought a Timbuk2 Commute and the Brenthaven Flex Fusion (which I have yet to find a review.)

Timbuk2 was 99USD, While the Brenthaven was 79USD with student discount, while usually 129USD.

I bought the Brenthaven bc it is the toughest laptop messenger bag made. It's got tons of pockets, and is very well padded.

I bought the Timbuk2 Commute bc it is a good all around bag. It also doesn't look like a laptop bag.

The Brenthaven bag has a removable sleave while the Timbuk2 (T2 for now on) has a built in pocket

IMHO, The Brenthaven is better for travel, and the T2 is better for local travel ie college campus and coffee shop.

I will keep both.

The T2 has less pockets but more space for books and notebooks. The Flex Fusion (now FF) has alot of protection, but besides computer gear, you can barely fit anything in the bag but a couple of slim magazines despite 20+ pockets.

Test One
If I had to throw my PB out a 2nd story window, which case would i prefer?
Brenthaven, without a doubt.

Test Two
If I was a college student that wanted both my notebooks and PB in the classroom, I would pick T2

Test Three
They are both great, that is why i am keeping both. I can use the T2 as a normal bag too, magazines fit perfectly in the laptop pocket. Also Bigger books.

The Brenthaven Flex Fusion is designed to protect your PB.
The T2 is designed to carry your PB + other things

It all depends on your environment

Crumpler Shrinkle

Anyone familiar with Crumpler Shrinkle? It holds a laptop and camera gear, sounds like it fits my needs, but how much space is there for other stuff? (books, papers, ect.)

I found a helpful review online...but anyone out there with more opinions?

Cheers

Milesar, I looked at the Shrinkle (and the other two similar) in a shop and they were all huge! It was a year ago so I'm afraid I can't help you with specifics, but all three of those type bags are massive, far bigger than I had imagined seeing it as a picture on the net. Apparently you can also remove the photo section padding and make more space if you don't need your camera that day.

mem: I am averse to carrying computer bags as in my opinion you might as well have a "please mug me" placard draped around your neck, particularly in certain parts of London I commute through.

For this reason I tend to carry instead a standard battered leather briefcase that has a central pocket that I place my 15" powerbook within.

To ensure the PB doesn't get knocked to pieces I bought a Crumpler School Hymn sleeve and its perfect for the job. It has a hard external cover, lightly foamed on the inside with a strong zip forming a very snugfit around the PB. I love it.

If you have - or are going for - a computer bag they will invariably have a purpose built padded zone for the PB so you can probably get away with a Tucano second skin, which are very nice.

However for my needs, with the hard external skin the School Hymn provides that extra level of security that enables me to carry it safely in my old briefcase or in fact any case, without fear of other bits and bobs inside the bag pressing on the PB etc.

Hope that helps

Tucano Work In/Work Out

Has anyone tried a Tucano Work In or Work Out? I'm particularly interested in the Work In.....they used to have it at MacMall but I never got around to ordering it and now I can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows where to buy it, I'd love to know!!
