Looking for a carrying case / sleeves? Look in here!

anybody heard of this MaxUpgrades MaxSleeve?

Hi, I just found this other sleeve by MaxUpgrades.com . . . it looks like the shinza zeroshock, but it's cheaper, and there's supposedly a 15% off "additional comment" code (not coupon code) MXPROMODB1. There aren't really any specs with it, so I was wondering if anybody has already heard about this one? here's a link . . . http://www.maxupgrades.com/istore/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=102

any thoughts/info?

I have a booq Vyper XS for my 12" powerbook and I would recommend it without hesitation. I was looking for something low profile that would slid into another bag, but that provided more protection than just a neoprene type sleeve. I like that it's semi rigid and the ballistic nylon matched my vertical brief just perfect.

Booq Powersleeve 12"

I just got my Booq Powersleeve 12" yesterday. It's even better than I imagined it from the photos. Good looking and very well build with lots of attention to details.

The Booq site was out of stock for the black model so I ordered it from Semsons & Co. Inc.. They have a really good price on it and were fast to ship it via Priority Mail.

Thanks everyone for this recommendation

After dinting two of my previous PB's I'd really like to make damn sure that my new 15" is as protected as it can be. I've already ordered a Crumpler Whack-o-Phone, but could I use a Booq Vyper 15" as well... or would it just be too big for the PB compartment in the Crumpler?

Hey Piarco75! You might be able to fit the Vyper into the Crumpler bag. The Vyper is snug to fit for the 15" PB and from looking at the picture of the inside of the Crumpler bag you mentioned, it seems like the Vyper would fit in there. Hope that helps!

I'm wondering if anyone has any info on Canadian sites where the best of these sleeves might be purchased. Duty/brokerage fees can double the cost of some products.

Thanks!

Where would be the best place to find a hard case for an iBook. I don't want it to be bulky, more like a sleeve but will protect it if it i drop it. I already have a bag for it so I don't want something like that. Any help at all would be much appreciated.

wimpy little girl

I'm a wimpy little girl and I already feel like my 12" pb is a bit on the heavy side so I'm hoping that someone can recommend a light backpack (not a one strap/ or messenger bag) preferably under $100?

I just ordered a booq boa.xs. Have not received it yet, but at 2.5 lbs it weighs just 8 oz. more than their mamba.xs messenger bag. Not to mention the fact that it's on sale for $79.95 at the moment (see the coupon code on the page linked above). I wanted small and light, but a comfortable backpack design. It was hard to find something small enough that I would not be tempted to carry too much crap. I'm hoping this fits the bill--imagine I'll know soon.

I've just recieved my crumpler wee bee for my pb 12in and its great :)

How heavy is it? Is it comfy? Do I need a separate sleeve for my PB or can I just slip it into the Crumpler wee bee?

I want to buy the black Tucano second skin for a 12" iBook, (in waiting for the laptop when I order it.) The delivery time on the UK Apple site is 10-15 days and you can't order it via Tucano. Does anyone know of a UK supplier with a good stock of them?

Crumpler Wee Bee and Tucano Second Skin thoughts and pictures

After getting my powerbook I needed something to keep my precious safe and clear from harm. I had a look at various options but the ones that leapt to mind were the Crumpler Wee Bee and the Tucano Second Skin

Crumpler Wee Bee

This is a tiny little bag for the 12in powerbook. I cannot believe how well made this bag is, material is top quality as is the seems and stiching. There is plenty of velcro to keep all the flaps in place. Opening it gives access to a small front pocket with a velcro opening I've put my network and phone cable in there. On the main flap is a small net pocket with a zip for smaller items. The powerbook has its own special slot with a large flap holding it securly in place.

There is space inside to put a fair bit of stuff along with your powerbook. The inside is a bright orange material which looks fairly waterproof which is a bonus.

The strap is nice and comfy with a pad for your shoulder.

Overall its very impressive and looks like it would take a lot of abuse without any problems.

I got mine for £51 inc vat and shipping from http://we-sell-crumpler.co.uk/index.asp it took a few days to arrive as it wasn't in stock at the time but they pulled out all the stops and even shipped it direct from the supplier for me which was very good. I emailed them and got a very quick response from Paula who answered my questions and helped me out. They are the cheapest by some margin so its well worth a look if you are after a crumpler bag.

One of its biggest plus's is that it looks nothing like your normal laptop bag so thieves wont be drawn to it when you are out and about.

Tucano Second Skin Black 12in

This case is very different from the crumpler its aimed at people who want to chuck there powerbook in any old bag. Its a perfect fit and seems very well made. It provides quite a bit of padding but I dont see the powerbook surviving drops for massive heights in this case, but it would help things a lot.

Its quick to put the powerbook in and you can tie it up with the wee bee for extra protection as it just fits into the slot for the powerbook.

My main critisms of this is all the silly writing on the outside I'd prefer a simple logo as it tells everyone you have a very expensive laptop for stealing.

I got mine from the local apple reseller it cost £25 which is far too expensive for me, you can get it for £16.99 online but have to pay a fair bit of shipping with most of the stores I looked at (9.99 in one!!) As no where had the in stock I just bit the bullet and got it.

thanks gordy for those pics...

Has anyone tried Crumpler's "Sheep Scarer" backpack?

Is it comfortable? Roughly how much does it weigh (I can't seem to find the weight on the Crumpler site)?

http://www.rei.com/online/store/Pro...atafeed&source=9081&cm_pla=na&cm_cat=datafeed

REI has the '04 model on clearance. Lists the weight as 2 lbs. 11 oz., so it's just 3 oz. heavier than the boa.xs. Exterior dimensions are, however, MUCH larger. This might be good for most, but I'm looking to avoid being tempted to carry stuff. My boa.xs arrives tomorrow. I'll post once I receive it.

booq boa.xs

Got it today. It is perfect for my use. Straps are very comfortable. Size is TINY. We're talking just a touch larger than most sleeves. My 12" pb fits well in the laptop pocket. There's room for about another 2" in length (as it goes in, but width in terms of screen). Beyond the laptop pocket there are two zippered sections and an iPod pocket. The larger of the two sections can handle a book and a few file folders. The smaller section has several pockets for cables, etc. If you're looking for something about the size of sleeve w/ a few pockets, but want comfy backpack straps rather than a shoulder strap, the boa.xs is the ticket. If you're looking for something that will hold more than your laptop, necessary cables, a mouse, and a book, go elsewhere.

Booq Boa 2006

I'm curious if any of you have the new Booq Boa? I'm interested in getting one. Their customer service department recommended I get the older version (either Boa.xs or Boa.xm system) since I have a 12" powerbook and the laptop compartment on the new Boa.XM is designed for a 15". But I'm thinking with a powersleeve 12, it will still work OK. I think the styling of the new pack is better, but would be interested to hear your opinions...

I just came across this on the STM website - it's made of Shinza Zero Shock type material, but (in my opinion) 345 times more beautiful!

Just thought I'd share (I think I'll wait until it's available in the UK before I splash out on the khaki one...mmm).

Anyone using either the Wack O Phone or the Part and Parcel. I'd like to get the Booq Vyper for use in either of these cases. Any chance of fitting a DLSR in this case?

booq vyper vs. shinza vs. crumpler school hymn

I'm buying a 12" powerbook soon (whenever apple decides to update), and I've narrowed down my case choices to

1. booq vyper
2. shinza
3. crumpler school hymn

does anyone have experience have good/bad reviews of these? how much impact protection do they give? I know that the crumpler is the only one that has a hard shell...but I'm worried that the vinyl outer layer will peel (plus it doesn't look as cool as the booq :p ) By the way this is for college use...so the powerbook will be wedged between/under books and handled roughly sometimes..not that I'd mean to. Therefore, I'm most concerned with impact protection and sleeve rigidity (sp?). Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I've had my Shinza for 4 months now, I really like it. I haven't yet dropped it but it does bounce around in my backpack quite a lot and I do tend to toss it on the couch when I get home so it has had some abuse but nothing major.

The edges are all reinforced with an extra bead of the same foam the case is made of and it seems really stiff. The only thing I dislike about it is that the fabric on the outside seems to pill, sort of like a sweater would so it doesn't keep its newness like a glossier or sturdier fabric would.

The great thing though is that it is totally anonymous. I really like the Booq bags but they scream "expensive bag with laptop inside" and I'd just as soon not advertise that fact. So, my $30 backpack is the carrier and the Shinza is the protection and it works great.
