How are these phones unlocked by these services anyways? Are these people who work for Apple/AT&T/etc.?

Ive used them too and they were great.

How come the price went up so high? I feel like I paid $5 for my 5S to be unlocked.

It is much more difficult to unlock phones now as the carriers have really tightened up control and closed a lot of back door ways these guys use to unlock phones.

I bought from this eBayer seller.

Looks legit. I used to always use SwiftUnlocks but $100 is a ludicrous price to be charging. These guys are making a killing. It's pretty much pure profit. At least on eBay the competition seems to have brought the prices down to somewhat more reasonable level.

Will report back when my phone gets unlocked.

Thanks for the link! Will report if it works. I'm going to London this Wednesday so it will be really awesome to use my 6 instead of carrying around my spare Galaxy S3...

I noticed that a lot of iPhone 6 unlock services popped up today and they're charging super high prices.

I noticed sellers are charging vastly differently prices for different iPhone models. Obviously, the iPhone 6 unlock prices are the highest right now (up to $100)

I was thinking, since the unlock is simply based on the IMEI code, does it really matter whether you buy an iPhone 4 unlock or iPhone 6 unlock? Shouldn't it work just the same. I'm wondering if it's just a big cash grab with these guys charging higher for newer models.

While you may be technically correct, you can easily tell by looking up the IMEI what kind of phone it is. So you wouldn't be able to fake out the seller.

Both phones on contract. But i think the 5S would be lapsed by today...

Please let me know how that goes!

Checked my order status and saw it was "unlocked"after getting an e-mail from iphoneunlockguys, and popped in a T-Mobile SIM.

Seems AT&T are only unlocked Monday-Friday and not on weekends, got my e-mail early morning Saturday.

Worked like a charm :) Flying to Jakarta tonight and popping in a local SIM once land -

So how do these companies actually unlock your phone. Is it legal? Could someone please explain :) Thanks!

Hopefully prices will go down by December. I will need to unlock my AT&T 6 Plus since I ll be a few month overseas, and need to use a local carrier.

I don't see an option on their site to choose AT&T iPhone 6.

I went with swiftunlocks.com site and paid 100...
It still says processing and they say it will be get done by Monday

Does anyone know if the unlock is tied to this particular device? For example if I get a replacement phone from Genius Bar will it be locked now?

I know they go through iTunes where it shows unlocked message which seems like apple data base will show that it is unlocked?

This is a great question. I guess I just assumed that the Genius Bar would give an unlocked replacement.

as long as you have an unlocked iPhone and getting a replacement from Apple will be unlocked as well. replaced an iPhone 4S and 5 at the Apple store in the past and got both replacement phones unlocked.

Oh I see so the Apple system does recognize that it was unlocked previously to get an unlocked phone as well as replacement then?
I thought unlocking process is registered to ATT and not Apple though

all the unlocking process is registered to Apple database, so whenever you bring an unlocked iPhone to Apple for replacement they will recognize it is unlocked and will get you an unlocked replacement as well.

sigh.. leaving tomorrow and iphone is still not unlocked...
They promised 1-2 days and it has been 2 days now

isnt swiftunlocks usually fast?

I don't think it really matters who you're buying from. They're all just resellers. And paying $100 won't get it done any faster than $50. Every time a new iPhone comes out, the queue to process the unlock gets really backed up. The reseller can claim 24 hours or whatever they want but really they have no control over the process. They're just middlemen. Only thing you can do is wait patiently and hope AT&T doesn't shut the system down like they did last year. Oh and weekends don't count. Neither does the 19th, if that's when you submitted your IMEI. Today was technically the first business day.

Well, the guy with above link changed his listing and removed iPhone 6/6+ unlocks, so that price is only for 5S/5C and older models.

Did you get your 6 unlocked with him ?? I doubt 6/6+ being unlocked at that price anywhere, which is why he removed 6/6+ advertising on the posting.

In fact, he's charging MORE to unlock than most unlockers (can't blame him, eBay takes 15% cut)

For example, unlocking an iPhone 5S is only $42 with iphone unlock guys (who i used to unlock my 6) compared to 49.95 with eBay seller

I did too ! Seems like iPhone 6 unlocks have just gone up everywhere, crazy.

Really can't wait till prices go down, could take months.

Will update tomorrow if gets unlocked on time (as they claim)

----------

If the 5S is now off contract, AT&T should unlock it for you, no reason they would deny it (assuming all bills paid)

Will update on my 6+ unlock tomorrow

AT&T will make you wait 14 days before allowing you to unlock 5S. Supposedly a federal law to allow "buyer's remorse" period to end before unlocking previously owned phone.

I had requested unlock for both 4 and 5 a couple of days ago and that is the reply I got. So I have to wait until Oct. 1 to resubmit my unlock request.

So how does that work? Where do you buy local SIMS? Don't you have to sign another contract with local carrier?

You have any luck with that eBay seller??

You have any luck with that eBay seller??

Just talked to the seller. He is going to refund my money. So basically the day after the iPhone 6/6+ came out, the unlock source doubled their prices. This source is also refusing to honor the orders that the eBay reseller already placed so he's just going to have to refund everyone. It's totally out of his control. At least the guy was quick to respond to all my messages and explained the situation clearly.

All these resellers get their unlocks from the same place basically. Whoever their source is is price gouging so $100 is pretty much the minimum these resellers have to charge now just to make a couple of bucks.

I plan on going back to the people I've purchased all my unlocks for the last few years. www.swiftunlocks.com While still pricey, the $100 they're charging is pretty much the cheapest you can get at this point. And even the eBay seller told me that at that price it's pretty much guaranteed to work.

Thanks for the information. I have to unlock a 5S now. Will hold off on trying to unlock the 6 for now.

I guess I'll give swiftunlock.com a shot for the 5S. I hope this works.

I've asked my credit card company to contest the 50 pounds I paid at officialiphoneunlock.com. I hope I get that back...fun times...
