I think your point is fair. But for some reason, ridiculous is the most misspelt word on MacRumors?!

Now that's redickyouluss.

I don't know if misspelt is a word either...Firefox says its spelled wrong. But way to get everyone off topic now. >:0

I didn't even have a phone in HS. I bought my own with my own money at 21. I guess you'll have to do that too. :apple:

Crap, we didn't even have calculators when I was in high school!

I mean, I had one of the early models, but couldn't use it in school.

I got one when I was 17. I convinced my parents by tallying up how much it would be for the two years. It was like 2000 or something.. Which, in a nut shell isn't all that bad consdiering your MacBook costs that much. Also, AT&T has the best overall network; which will allow you to have service pretty much everywhere you go. They are also rolling out their 3G network nationwide, so thats another upside. You have to sell the company to your mother ;)....

EDIT
If its not AT&T, then.. well sell the network your on.

When i was in high school, if we had a cell phone in our pocket they would take it up for 2 weeks. I couldn't imagine getting my iPhone thrown in some box in the main office for two weeks...

What happened to AT&T having 3G all over the country? I have yet to recieve 3G signal but 10 min down the road there is 3G.

Way off topic but i had to say something:apple:

Personally I don't care who pays for what in their lives and who has what senseless toy in high school. However, your statement of not knowing what to do is silly. If your parents do not allow for you to have an iPhone then that should be it. You could get an iPhone yourself no doubt but breaking your Verizon contract may mean that your parents will suffer (sounds like you're on a combined plan). The choice is very simple, wait until you can get the phone you want with your own money or live with whatever Verizon has.

Personally, I think the Dare is very nice, there is also the Storm ... the choices are endless and you already have a touch so what else are you missing out on really?

lol I have the Dare I want to get internet on it though lol not sure how much a month it is.

I love my iPhone. I use it more than my iPT. That said, the iPT is basically an iPhone minus the phone, so just get that.

If the contract price is too much, don't bother with it. If you can afford it without any problems, it's a really cool toy and can be really useful for more than just fun.

I'm 14 btw. :)

I told my mom about the 90 a month and she didn't like it. One canceling my verizon plan and 2 90 a month. So i'll just wait a year or 2 and see what happens plus she said with college.(none of that made sense) but i'll just wait I guess since I read it might come to verizon. I don't know what i'll do.

High school student? You don't need an iPhone, you want an iPhone which is different.

Now, still want it? Get a part time job or something, show your mom initiative. Help her pay for the bill of it. I mean, its $90 a month, just tell her to pay the same amount she pays and you pay whatever is extra for her.

Kids this days don't know how to impress parent;);););)

+1

OP-- I'm glad that you are respecting your mom, and not giving her a hard time. Anyway-- she said "no" for now, things always change.

I am also glad to hear that you are not afraid of hard work. Good. Give it a bit of time, then approach your mom with what you are willing to pay for (or give up) to help get you this iphone.

You sound like a nice, level-headed student.

I got an iPhone my senior year. I wanted it because it got rid of my crappy iPod that was 4 years old. lol And then my phone broke as well. I had pretty crappy phones, and the first phone I got was my Freshmen year. Reason, I was driving, parents could always get to me and if the car broke down I wouldn't be SOL.

I got an iPhone because my parents saw it as an opportunity for me to learn more about technology. Once there was an announcement of iPhone 2.0 and the App store upcoming, my dad was even happier because I had started taking programming language classes. Then I worked hard and bought my own MacBook. He was proud, plus I made enough money not to ask for a single dime during my first year of college.

The iPhone for me has allowed me to gain access to get used to the technology and soon will be paving the way to me learning more about technology and my future job. I think it was a good investment on their part.

You seriously are using urban dictionary as a resource? That is even worse than citing Wikipedia.

+10 lmfao.

Well sucks to be you OP, Like someone else said get your own money and buy it yourself. That's what people do in the real world, try to get it in her name (Because most likely you won't quality for AT&T service/ No credit) and just pay the bill.

I think your point is fair. But for some reason, ridiculous is the most misspelt word on MacRumors?!

i disagree, i think "definitely" is the word that most people can't spell.

as for the title of this thread, his mum won't let him get an iphone.....does anyone care? my girlfriend won't let me get a pet monkey but i don't go crying about it at monkeyrumours.com.

Being in high school means nothing. I'm a freshmen, and I have an iPhone. (3 to be exact)

Purely out of interest, why do you have 3?

in all honesty, some of the adults on this forum would fall out of their chair if they saw how many kids at my high school have smart phones- iPhones, blackberries, blackjacks, G1s, etc.

Why have smart phones become such a big thing? I have an iPhone but only because it's the first phone I've used with a UI that didn't make me want to throw it away. And I got it cheaper than any other phone I've ever bought.
But yeah, to me a Blackberry's still something my dad uses, I don't get why everyone has one now.

I got one when I was 17. I convinced my parents by tallying up how much it would be for the two years. It was like 2000 or something.. Which, in a nut shell isn't all that bad consdiering your MacBook costs that much.

Just thinking of how my mum would have reacted to that argument made me properly laugh. "It's only £750/year, which is only the cost of a Macbook".

Now, still want it? Get a part time job or something, show your mom initiative. Help her pay for the bill of it.

I'm pretty sure he said he paid for his Macbook etc himself.

I think people need to stop being jealous of kids who get stuff (or spoiled)

Yes, I don't think its fair either and I've paid for nearly every Apple product I own (I got an iPod Video to replace my 1st Gen ) BUT, if someone is able to have that lifestyle, per say, let them get on with it. More fool them for not realising the reward of buying something you want out of cashed you've earned.

/rant

NB. I love my iPhone :D

Also, all you guys typing these words out, you do realize that your Mac has that nifty feature where it puts red lines underneath words you have spelled wrong? Next time, pay attention to it and things like "rediculous" will not happen. Though it does not do it for the word "misspelt" for some reason. I do not know. Help me oh mighty steve!
