This just strikes me as strange and unusual. At this point call them the Airpods Pro 3.
Agreed

This makes no sense, it's the same H2 chip. Giving new features to same-generation devices will create a lot of confusion. Not that I care about this feature, but it's a weird marketing move
SO these are basically AirPods Pro 3? If it's that much of an upgrade why didn't they just call it that?
Well we don’t actually know that - Apple has fumbled something here. I am curious for the ifixit when these drop next Friday to see. If they do offer new technical functionality then Apple should have called the 2023 edition or something (if small enough of a change not to warrant an ”Airpods Pro 3”..
How about like the article says. AirPods Pro 2nd gen with usb c lol simpleWe should adopt a name for this new version to avoid confusion. AirPods Pro 2v2? AirPods Pro 2.1? AirPods Pro 2-ish? Open for ideas
I fully expect Apple to continue rolling out firmware updates for the older AirPods Pro 2 that will result in poorer performance and audio quality so people will go buy these new AirPods Pro 2 for the improvements. 🤣As we highlighted yesterday, the new AirPods Pro feature additional dust resistance and support for 20-bit 48kHz lossless audio when connected to the Vision Pro headset. At the time, it seemed unusual that Apple would limit a key audio feature to the new AirPods Pro 2 when the original version is just a year old, but that's exactly what Apple has done.
Why call it like that if there's more than a charging port change? How about like the article says. AirPods Pro 2nd gen with usb c lol simple

Lol..and btw, not sure about anyone else, but damn the new firmware improved the noise cancelling back to what it was day 1 imho - anyone else hear the same? (my ears are horrible btw, so if I can hear it, I assume everyone can?)I fully expect Apple to continue rolling out firmware updates for the older AirPods Pro 2 that will result in poorer performance and audio quality so people will go buy these new AirPods Pro 2 for the improvements. 🤣
Admittedly I can only assume it's the same chip, but if it's not, Apple should have called this device differently. But I agree it's a minor annoyance as only a few users will take advantage of this featureIs it the same H2 chip? Is that known for sure that it is an identical H2 chip and they simply software locked it, or does it have an H2 Rev. B? I'm not saying that it is beyond Apple to do that, but it would be extraordinarily petty of them.
I don't think it's that big a deal to many since the majority of people can't tell the difference between well encoded lossy and lossless (https://www.soundguys.com/is-lossless-audio-worth-it-83392/#). Petty nonetheless if true though.
Apple seems to be calling them AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) in their store. We should adopt a name for this new version to avoid confusion. AirPods Pro 2v2? AirPods Pro 2.1? AirPods Pro 2-ish? Open for ideas

That's what I tell people buying a Apple Pro Display XDR. If you can afford a $5K or $6K Pro Display XDR, then you can afford to spend another $1K on the Pro Stand. If you are buying the AR helmet, you won’t have any problem spending a tiny bit more.
