Admittedly I can only assume it's the same chip, but if it's not, Apple should have called this device differently. But I agree it's a minor annoyance as only a few users will take advantage of this feature
Agree, and the next question is what is the APV doing that then allow for lossless? Is it merely the distance from the airpods, or is this some new transmission standard built on wifi or a apple hacked bluetooth? My question now is, will this do the same with the iphone 15 and it wasn‘t announced, and why not?

It seems clear like Gurman is reporting that the iphone isn’t the king from which all new chips, etc are introduced. It seems the APV now is (and also why I wonder if the M3 isn’t coming to it and it wasn’t announced..)

God, they are getting buried with all of these different connectors/formats. Apple should just cease and desist everything that isn't USB-C :D

It's cleary a newer version of the AirPods Pro, this new one also include dust resistance not present in the previous version, I think they are calling it 2 generation still because it's likely using the same drivers, if they called it AirPods Pro 3 people would expect it to sound better which would not be the case.

I still do not get this; how? I mean people will not be connecting Vision Pro to earbuds with a wire?

So how will this work? Some proprietary protocol using the W2 chip I guess? If so - this can be a "Feature" in next iPhone too... because it can't be Bluetooth (not enough bandwidth?)

Must be proximity thing. They are very close to the Vision Pro.
Unless you mount the phone to your head, it will always be further away

Why are people upset? The APP2s still work fantastic as they are. Anyone buying the Vision Pro isn’t going to be terribly upset by this. I waited until yesterday to order the USB-C APPs and I’ll be buying the Vision Pro, so I’m excited and this is awesome news! 👍🏻

And here I am slightly annoyed that I'll still have to keep a lightning cable around after I upgrade my phone because my airpods pro case isn't USB-C.

I refused to buy the APP2 because they were lightning and i just knew they would switch this year....
So this is a nice bonus for waiting.... ;)

(Not sure i'll even buy the Vision Pro lol)

Best guess - it got the new UWB update that all the new devices got as well, likely built into the chip. BUT that is the big question, if this is on an SOC of some type? If not and this fits its on spot then Apple fumbled here imho. I am really curious to the ifixit now

This makes no sense, assuming it's the same H2 chip. Giving new features exclusive to same-generation devices will create a lot of confusion. Not that I care about this feature, but it's a weird marketing move
This is just a ploy to fleece the dedicated Apple fans. The ones planning on buying a vision pro, will then "upgrade" to these USB-C airpods pro 2, from their existing lightning AirPods Pro 2. Then Mar/Apr of next year (2-3 months after Vision pro releases) drop the actual AirPods Pro 3 with new features, better sound quality, lossless audio and you just leeched your best customers out of another $250.

I think the only thing anybody actually cares about here is whether there will be a USB-C case sold (under $100) that works with the existing AirPods Pro 2.

This is a little bizarre by apple... confusing...

I have apple AirPods Pro 2... oh, so do I, how you finding the lossless audio? Err... wait a minute you have AirPods Pro 2? Yeah... but mine are different..

Throws his AirPods Pro 2 in landfill, and heads off to Apple Store to buy more AirPods Pro 2

Mother Nature lol

I have a feeling they won't... why would they when they could make all those sales on the new AirPods Pro 2

Seriously. How is this even surprising. Forced Upgrades. Same tactics with iPhones. Camera improvements on iPhone 15 with exact the same hardware on the 14, but they won't update it on the 14.

Cool fingertricks on Series 9, that shizzle was already available on older series, once again no update even definitely possible.

Stagemanager on iPad only reserved for the latest gen, but previous gen allegedly could not handle it. S Storm follows. All of a sudden they could pull it off, Apple claiming hard work and dedication made it able to pull it off on earlier gens.

Downgrading the performance on Airpods Max ANC. I said it way before, they gonna re-release the Airpods Max and restore the previous levels claiming XX% improvement over older generations Airpods Max. No S! If you downgrade performance then restore it back to original levels to claim new marketing improvements, basically use these BS recycle schemes even on software levels. Basically let the consumer purchase the device twice!

This says two things: Forced Upgrades or Apple not doing its upmost best. Looking at how we all use beta operating systems on final hardwares these years. I say both.

Also these BS Forced Upgrades Schemes. Battery-Gate, RAM-Gate, Green-Screen Gate, Butterfly-Gate, ANC-Gate.

Apple introducing again new battery health features. Wake up people. They doubling down on this cause the battery health have been decreasing as Apple has been experimenting with recycled materials in batteries since iPhone 14. Why do you think the health declined so fast on these generation. Cause they were already experimenting it on the 14 and now use it as marketing on the 15. Recycled material do not perform the same or better than non recycled material.
