Anyone at this point still hoping that the iPhone 5 will have a redesigned case is setting themselves up for disappointment as Apple unveils the "all new iPhone 5" and out comes an iPhone 4 look-alike.

I for one can't wait for my A5 chip in an iPhone 4 case called the iPhone 5 or just plain iPhone as Apple realises that suffixes are useless.

That's what I've been saying for WEEKS.

You guys tell yourself this so you're not let down if it isn't redesigned. If it is, then you'll be extremely happy as well, so you win either way. We all know were looking for that redesign though, so cross your fingers!

It would be angled while on a table, uncomfortable to hold, and the teardrop shape limits potential space for components as opposed to a flat back

If Apple released a teardrop design, do you think for some reason it would be huge on one and end tiny on the other? No. It would literally be millimeters difference from one side to the other. You probably woulnd't even see it laying on it's back.

I'm so sick of this "it'd be hard to hold!!! oh gawd!!!!" nonsense.

I dont know about this, usually when iOS release like 3,4 etc its a new design.
and all those iOS's released about 2-3 days before the actual phone launched. So something tells me iOS 5 wont just be for the "4S".

Exactly!!! Nobody knows if we will have a 4S or a 5 or both AND ON TOP OF THAT, nobody knows for sure the specs of either!

How can anybody say they don't want a 4S?!?

I can say I don't want the iPhone 4S because I don't want/need a new phone that looks exactly like the one I have. I don't care what improvements it has. I had an iPhone 3G and had no want or need for the 3GS. I skipped it and waited for the 4. If Apple comes out with a "4S" I will pass and I KNOW I will. I am ready for a new form factor, ie: Larger screen, thiner, more comfortable. But if not I'll stick with my 4, I'm pretty much happy with it.

Teardrop shape does not mean it will be different on any side. It just means the edges are bevelled like the iPad 2 and current iPod touch.

There is no issue with the iPod touch in landscape orientation and there won't be one if the iPhone 5 is shaped similarly.

People can do so much with their phones now, and the rest of the industry has graciously stayed away from screens that are less than 4" diagonal. All I need is an iPhone 5 or whatever with a 4.3" edge to edge screen on Sprint and I am sold.

Anything less and it's really just another update that shouldn't have taken so long.

No, teardrop means thicker on one end and thinner on the other. That's what teardrop means.

Gruber's comment was clearly based on the '1' badge on the invitation, so I don't really get the talk of 'inside info'.

wow, thats a nice iphone if it is real

Agreed, but I think we will be disappointed. It probably is some sort of juiced up ipod touch and may not even be released yet along with the phone. I do wish the new phone gets a bigger screen though. Nevertheless I am sick of hearing about it.

Sorry, but I just can't ignore the PhotoStream image. I believe that there
will be a redesign.

Now, it could be that when the image was created, the plan was for the redesign to be done by the fall iCloud release, but for whatever reason it's not ready yet. Hence, iPhone 4 speedbump now.

But I believe.

There has to be more than a "4S" - there's no way they would hold a live event if all they did was add iOS 5, an 8MP camera and an A5 chip. It would be such a huge letdown.

I will have basically skipped the 4 for no reason.

You weren't there when Steve introduced the revolutionary "iPod HiFi", were you?

In Apple's history of live events there are several that have to be considered as underwhelming, to say the least.

Prepare for some nasty disappointment, when there will be a whole lot of iOS5 talk and some between the lines reference to Antennagate while introducing the new phone (which IMHO will rather be a iPhone 4S).

The biggest reason I think there will be a redesign (at this point)... is because they are stressing the iPhone itself. If it were just internal upgrades... I would think they would stress iOS 5 and iCloud. I don't see them stressing the iPhone without making a significant change to it.

Ahh , look who it is, the guy who talks ALL the time, but knows NO-thing ... i would bet my house there is a new iphone design ... apple web icons, external case designs, etc .... plus as ANYONE with half a brain has said a thousand times on these forums ... Why on earth would they wait this long if they WERENT releasing a new form factor? EVERY other facet of it has been ready to go for nearly a year or more... Just to pump the iOs5 sales?... wow someone doesnt know business.... And to expect that sort of business from Apple ... wow, clearly unintelligent presumption.

After MONTHS of reading your BS, cant wait to come back here in a week and watch you disappear, or eat humble pie....

While I hope for a new design, this argument has no business reasoning behind it other than "We want a new design and we've waited this long so Apple owes us one!!" And this is not a valid argument.

When the delay was first mentioned, it was also rumored that iOS 5 was the reason. It's entirely possible that Apple has been working on Assitant and the hardware upgrades this entire time...with no new form factor.

The only real reason we have to believe there is a new form factor are the leaked cases. That's it.

I just refuse to believe that after 16 months they will "3GS us" Times are different now than they were in 2009, too much competition to give a phone without the physical apperance/Internals of other market leaders.

I totally agree. If it's simply a "spec bump" it will be a flop by Apple's standards. Sure they will still sell, but it will really slow the iPhone's momentum and some, including myself, may well look at going Android ***shudder***

Also, Samsung and HTC will have a field day with all the "iPhone hasn't changed in 1-1/2 years" trash talking. Ain't gonna happen.

I'm hoping there will be a post from MR that says:

"iPhone event in 1 week, we're done posting speculation. Just wait."

This is Mac RUMORS, dont read it if you dont wanna hear rumors, go in a cave for a week with a picture of your girlfriend and use a flashlight to look at the picture, turn it off.on.off.on.

It could also mean beveled: smaller at the rear than the front. I say no chance Apple would make the case thinner on one end than the other. They didn't make the Air "thicker" on one end because it was a great design but rather because they could not make the hinged end that thin. iPhone's are not a clamshell design so to mimic the Air would be stupid.

And for the record none of them are truly "teardrop" shapes. They are wedges.

I hear the teardrop design will squirt acid when it's held to your cheek.
