why do you guys care about seams so much?
holy ****.

and even if the screws are still there, it's not like they're popping out.
i personally like the screws and seams.

They(the seams)sure don't bother me.And when I checked the bottom of my 3GS this morning...horror!2 screws!!!!

I find it funny how every apple fan boy on this site was like "that's not the real thing, it's ugly and disgusting, apple would never make something like that" to "wow, I love it, it's nice" after finding out it's the real thing. Makes me wonder ...

Fine by me....This design is great....Except for those tiny screws at the bottom...I bet they won't be there in the "street" version.
My iPhone 3G has the exact same screws (I don't have a 3Gs, but I would be willing to bet it has them too). I don't see any reason to believe they wouldn't be here in the fourth-generation version as well.

The new design looks very much like something Dieter Rams could have designed for Braun way back in the days. Of course Jonathan Ive happens to be a huge fan of Dieter Rams, btw. I love 'em both.

My only concern is that the device is a little too thick.
Are there any photos of its thickness compared to the 3G(S)?

it's thinner.

That makes sense. That would be the demographic this appeals to.

They are also the people who love Modernist design, with its emphasis on the rational and its disregard for the emotional.

In college we used to make jokes about the architecture professors who all dressed in black--many wore the same outfit every day, just like Steve Jobs.

Basically, it's design for people who love the academic style of design and are uncomfortable with emotions.

You nailed me! (not necessarily a good thing!)

I loved the design of the 1st gen and was dissapointed with the design of the 3G. I still upgraded though cos the 3G did more than the 1st Gen. I'm sure those who hate the design will still upgrade cos of the new features.

At last I can ditch my case!

If only we knew if there was going to be a Verizon version...finding one of those in the wild would have been monumental.

I'm pretty sure if there were going to be a Verizon version, we'd know about it more than a few months ahead.
Verizon would have to have the phones in-store, or at least be closely collaborating with Apple to allow the Apple store sales-reps access to subscribing and setting up Verizon accounts.

And since Verizon is FAR from being quite about changes, we'd probably hear it from them first. (not by finding an iPhone CDMA version in the wild)

You seem to underestimate Apple and how they force their partners to ****.

The iPhone 4 will have a aluminum back cover.

Every line of apple products have aluminum (well, almost lol), MBP, iMac, iPad, MBA, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, even the ipod nano and shuffle are aluminum, i really think this is just a simple cover just to hang around with the iphone, testing it. I don't like this design at all it's like people say....it's "unApple"

But don't listen to me, i'm nuts! :D

No it won't.

it's thinner.

Still looks more bulky than the current generation, with tapered edges and black back that blends into the background as well as chrome bevel that breaks it up.

iPad Mini/iPhone 4? Either way, looks a significant improvement, and worthy of me upgrading from the 3G this summer. Hopefully with a change to Vodafone so my signal quality at work will improve markedly too!

Judging by yourself, very gullible. All someone had to do was cough *conspiracy* and you immediately went off making up a story and believing it too.

Do you really think Apple would have trouble attracting attention when they announce something officially?...

Shrug. Gullible, indeed.

Apple has traditionally been very effective at quashing stories and preventing leaks.

Here, we have:

1. A lame demand letter from the GC, sent by email, way after the story broke.

2. Nobody reacted immediately after the "loss" of the phone (they can track it, you know).

3. Apple allows the schmuck who "lost" it to talk to the media, as well as his father!

You either have no clue how Apple normally handles leaks, or don't have a clue, period.

I agree.. even though it's thinner, the 3GS looks thinner..
I also think that the current iphone backs were cracking a lot, which caused apple to send refurbished phones out, maybe they're trying to cut costs on replacement parts. who knows..

Just the fact that this thing got leaked , and apple likes to introduce new things, I'm guessing they might make some minor tweaks to it.

That's not clunky, it's topographic! :p

Actually, if most people take the time to look on their first gen iPhones, they will notice the black plastic volume rocker is split / cracked in the middle. This is a widespread unnoticed issue, so declared by me. No one I know has a first gen iPhone that doesn't have a crack in the center of the rocker.

Just checked mine.....no crack in the volume rocker is visible...

ok how about some stuff we don't know after all this is macrumors!

Proper 6 axis motion control. Tis only Rotational control at them moment.. and the iphone current accelerometer manufacture handily has one ready right in time... Full translations would be very cool.

Better GPS.

Widgets on home screen/search screen - still see this as happening as they have taken this sort of functionality form the ipad - stocks / weather / Alarm clock ( nuts - that one!?! )

better Notifications on home screen/lock screen - I am sure apple can't be that dumb to realise that with all these notifications flying around, the chances are you miss stuff...

Fully wireless sync

Head tracking / smile tracking - lots more camera functions.

Anyway Love the design. It's a mini iMac/ Apple 24" Cinema Display

and...
No crack on my 3g rocker... but a micro crack on the cover to bezel by the headphone socket and the mute switch.
