I think there will be some modifications still. It would not be like Mr. Jobs leave screws visible, the overall look is very unfinished and to me very "Un Apple".

But we shall see and I am sure the speculation will be rampant until it is formally unveiled!

I love the new design, and I think its very unlikely that the screws will be there on the mass produced model.

I agree. I think the outer aluminum "ring" will be unibody without the visible screws or break lines. Those are most likely just to make assembly easier for the prototype units.

Fine by me....This design is great....Except for those tiny screws at the bottom...I bet they won't be there in the "street" version.

I know, screws are so Un-Apple!

I'm guessing the people complaining about screws:
a) have not looked at any recent Apple product; and
b) want Apple to use superglue more liberally.

Beautiful, perhaps, but it would be even more beautiful if the front was aluminum too. There's just the minor trade-off of not being able to see the screen...

Gah, no! It should stay a glossy black around the screen. There is a practical reason for this.

Every so often it becomes a fad in electronics to make them silver. Which when you are talking about a device that is designed to display a screen the silver does not compliment well the colors of the screen (think of the color of your tv/monitor being a frame) being a light color. Eventually everyone realizes TV screens and monitors look best framed in black cause the dark black brings out colors more vibrantly in the picture screens. No matter how nice your screen, it still looks duller when it's surrounded by a light color, particularly silver (my Mac's white isn't as horrid but I'd still have prefered my Mac be black or have a black border around the screen.. note at hte time Apple was able to charge more for the black Macbook. And one reason I like hte macbook pros is the glossy black border around the screen).

I bought a tv towards the end of one of these fads and I had a helluva time trying to find one and the best compromise I could get is a silver one with a black border around the screen (still would have preferred it to be all black) but the speakers to the side of it are silver. Even though it was still trying to stay popular with the silver fad, they realized the picture would still be better framed in black (same as my computer monitor but it did a better job as the whole front is black and it is silver from behind).

There's a reason TVs and monitors always return to black being the best fad. It is best for making the colors in the screen pop out better. It really annoys me that they keep trying to use fads for what colors to make electronics particularly ones that revolve around having a display. Black has been a mainstay for a reason!

The "new" phone has really grown on me. I could see me getting one of these bad boys on day 1. I cannot wait for WWDC, sign me up for a 32GB one please.

The iPhone 4 will have a aluminum back cover.

The main problem with having an aluminum back cover would be that it would dampen the 3G and GPS signals.

The iPad's solution involves a plastic covered plate over the antennae region - the iPhone has too small a back surface area to consider that approach.

BTW: people who are still wiping tears of anger and sadness that something got leaked early, get over it already.

Haha, yeah but you know how it is . . That day waiting to hear Steve talk about the details just feels so good. Then you have the wait on line . . Put it this way, it's the only line I'm ever excited to be on, next to the ones at Great Adventures. :D

In China, what manufacture builds the iPad and iPhone? Because the 3G iPad got pushed back, will that effect the time line for the new iPhone if it is built at the same place?

No thanks. Larger phone, smaller screen (higher resolution maybe, but the screen is too small now), that's a DEALBREAKER.

And it's UGLY.

I have a really hard time seeing the screen size difference, but it's 9.4mm thick which is something like 20% thinner than the 3GS. That's what I would call significantly thinner.

To all it looks "un- Apple"

Actually it reminds me of the 1st Gen iPod Nano

Ipod_nano_4gigabyte_black.jpg

what's wrong with this design? i love the 1st Gen ipod nano.. it looks very classy..The phone looks great.. i am going to buy one when it's out..

I love this design. It's very professional and looks quite robust too. The 3G iPhone's rounded back has always looked cheap and nasty IMO, a real step down from the nice aluminium back of the first gen iPhone. I just hope they get rid of the seams. They just don't look right. Otherwise, looks great!

i dont like the design at all. i hope its not the one coming out in june/july. I'd be dissapointed.

i wonder if apple will change something b/c of this leak

I HIGHLY doubt that. How a device looks like affects how it works. And testing a device takes months and months. Same for arriving at a certain design. You don't just sit and crank out a design in a day or two.

I just hope you guys aren't screwing it all up by continuing to analyze it like this and post for all to see ... Steve could think "hmmm. they figured us out. Even though that was the final version, and I really like it, I am going to have to change it now to make it look like everyone else was wrong. 'DVT' final version? ha, not anymore. Hey guys.. redesign it!!! I don't care if it's not as good, change something!!!!" (bright red face)
