I hope Locke isn't the smoke monster, that'd be as big a cop out as having Sylar become a shapeshifter. Just a lazy way of tying stuff up.

I loved that episode. Some decent progression at last! can't wait for next weeks since now we know everything up until that point (in that everyones back story has now been told).

A bit obvious making them plane crash survivors important.

And yet again they've not settled on who is the real bad guy; Ben or Widmore. I'm hoping that Widmore will be, what's a popular show without a sinister British (though isn't he originally Australian?) big bad guy :)?

anyone turned off by the smoke monster cgi? granted it's hard to do a smoke monster, but it would have been nice if they invested more in making it look better

At this point, it doesn't really bother me. I thought the whole video replay of his life was kind of interesting. Was it reading his mind, or is it watching everything that happens on the island? They lifted that from something, but I just can't remember where from...

That brings up an interesting question. When the monster was showing Ben his life. His adopted daughter "appears" and tells him to do exactly what Lock tells him to do. She looked real and even grabbed him and tossed him against a beam. Does this mean she is alive or that Locke is just another visual like her ?

The black smoke monster has seasons 1-5 on dvd somewhere under the temple. :)

Whats with the "new" crash survivors and these new cryptic questions. If I was Lupedus (sp) I'd be livid about being hit in the head with the butt of that gun.

Could someone remind me where Daniel Faraday is?

Faraday is most likely off morning somewhere. the last time we saw time wise was helping underground in the Orchid. i know it is from the first episode of the season 5 but time wise i think that is his last known location. he is trying to get back to a point in time where he can warn Charlotte. cause she says to him that there was a crazy man warning her not to come back to the island before she dies. so that is what i think he is up to.

it is definitely reading his mind because the same thing happens to Eko. we see flashes of eko's past before he was on the island. and im pretty sure the monster is confined to the island so it would have to be tapping into his memories. unless richard is the smoke monster. we have obviously seen him off the island but i think that it is unlikely that he is. i dont think the monster is a person. he can definitely take on the image of a person or animal in the case of Kate's horse, but i dont think it changes back and forth. it does it just to prove a point.

YOUUU SUCK!!!!!

I haven't gotten to that part in Heroes yet, and haven't been going in the Heroes thread!!

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

That little dissapearing act by Locke and the arrival of the smoke monster are pretty coincidental. Again, Locke reappears when the smoke monster dissapears. All with that big cheesy grin of his ;)

I hadn't really thought of it, but hey you never know. Even Ben is trying to figure out how Locke knows as much as he does.

Hmmm... also, earlier on, before they went to the temple, when they were at Ben's house, Ben tried calling the smoke monster. He then went upstairs and outside, and instead of the smoke monster showing up, John came out of the jungle. Another coincidence? Or not?

I'd like to think/hope that John is John. That he somehow was given life again by the island. Unless the explanation is really, really good, I don't think that I'll be happy with "the smoke monster is playing John, and that's how he knows things he shouldn't know".

I'm glad that this week was about John and Ben. It looks like next week will be back with the Dharma story. Interesting that Ben can't remember them being part of the Dharma Initiative..... or does he, and is this just another lie? Hurley would be a hard dude to forget......

It was cool that they brought Ben's daughter back for the episode instead of just flashbacks or something...... I like her, she was great on Malcolm In The Middle. :D

dude, it's almost 3 weeks old news now

Regardless, as a TV fan you should understand that spoilers can ruin an entire season or program for someone. I would try to avoid spoilers for other current TV shows going forward.

As for the episode, I really enjoyed it. It's fun to see John so sure of himself for probably the first time in the series. And Ben having to take a back seat is a refreshing change of pace as well - although I do love the omnipotent Ben we have seen in the past.

Throughout the episode, I was trying to guess how the Island would judge Ben. His actions have generally been so awful, that if this wasn't a TV show, I would totally expect him to be killed on the spot. However, Ben can't leave us just yet, so the Island chooses to punish Ben internally, and only for the Alex thing. So if all Ben gets judged for is that one act, and all his other terrible actions were ignored, then maybe the Island is as evil as Ben is, and he is really doing everything neccesary to protect it.

I thought the scene with Ben in the smoke monster seeing flashbacks was a little cheesy. I guess it was cool to see something the smoke monster could do (we've seen it before with Eko, but with not as much detail), but it just seemed...lame. I love when Alex comes out and roughs up Ben, though. Very cool scene.

Something cool I noticed was the care John used with Christian Shepard's dress shoes when entering and exiting the boat. The show focused on him taking off and putting on the shoes - a fun shoutout to a cool sub-plot. I also loved when Ben shot Ceaser (sp) point blank with that sawed-off. LOST is one of the only shows that will just kill off seemingly important characters like that - I never saw it coming.

So do we think the new survivors have the "disease" that the french people have? It seemed that way to me, based on their treatment of Lupidus.

Farraday, along with Rose & Bernard have a sub contract for the concrete work at the Orchid.

They hired the 2004/05/06 "others" (who fled to the Temple, to hide from Widmores Posse).

The 2004/05/06 Others are pissed because Farraday Construction Co. are paying them in 1977 dollars, they want 2009 dollars.

So a Mexican stand off at the Orchid.

I hear a resolution is close, they will all re-appear in the next 2 to 3 weeks, after the contract is complete.

I'm surprised you have forgotten this.
And in case you have also forgotten, they move through time via the worm holes in the Temple.

i think you may be reading in to it a little too much. but with this show you never know.

i like this idea a lot. but i wonder why some ppl get affected and other's dont. maybe another way the island kills off people. it's a pretty inefficient way to do it however, but it certainly gets the job done. maybe the island finds it amusing :p

and were any of you here members of the lost-theories.com site before it got shut down? it was a really great site i havent been able to find a good one since. any suggestions?

Well, I'm not saying Christian's shoes are going to solve the island's mysteries, just that as a TV viewer, I appreciate that kind of attention to detail.

oh yea i hear ya, but the creators have been known to put things in there just TO throw us off.

maybe he as being careful because Christian has finally worn out those damn white tennis shoes :p

Or... We are about to find out about another Locke relationship to someone else on the island. :D

At this point, you can pretty much just make stuff up and its just as plausable as anything else! LOL

If John is the smoke monster, and Alex(as the smoke monster), told Ben to listen to everything he says etc. If The monster is the island, so in a way, Ben then has to do what the island wants him to do.

That's true! As long as they throw some flashbacks in to tie things together........

Maybe Locke was Christian's shoesalesman's brother's friend's uncle's roommate in college........

or maybe Locke is only still alive because of almost a "possession" by the smoke monster??

^ I knew I saw her from something before! Cheers!

Doesn't matter. What if I wait till the season is on DVD or something and then watch all of it. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of Heroes, and I honestly didn't mind it that much because it is very confusing. But, what if somebody else happens to come into this thread that didn't watch any of Season 3 yet, and sees that (Like me)?

OK, I'm sure he's sorry, let it go...

Does anyone think the smoke monster built the pyramids?

OK, Sunday night, just throwing that out there.

Have any of the LOST sites captured the temple scene and tried to decipher the hieroglyphs on the columns / walls? I've been avoiding them lately, I wanna be surprised. That wasn't a shot at you fireshot91.

I didn't take it like that at all ;)

Yeah, I've been wondering what the hieroglyphs on the wall meant since the last episode. I wanted to freeze-frame it, but I decided not to when Alex showed up.

there are some interesting theories out there about how the island is from the future. and that smoky is a product of that future. but the hieroglyphics kind of shoot that theory down i guess. im of the belief that the island is from many points in time. it is pretty clear that time does not function the same way on the island as it does in reality. it goes through periods of chaos like we saw in the beginning of season 5. the donkey wheel was knocked off its axis (stupid Ben, cant do anything right :p) however. god the more i think about it the more complicated it gets. what a great show!!
