Someone mentioned earlier that in the training video, they all freak out when the time traveling bunny comes in close proximity to himself. Here's a thought: maybe at some point Miles' dad realizes who the adult Miles is and sends his wife and son away in order to keep his son safe?

Nice, I was thinking the same thing.

I don't see how Sawyer will be able to keep everything from unraveling further. I guess they had a pleasant 3 year vacation from all the craziness.

The past few episodes have been excellent.

Well if scenes from the next episode are any indication...

...it would seem like Sawyer has a choice to stay in his life at dharma, or go with Faraday and "the good guys". So maybe he will choose to play ignorant of everything going on and let his friends suffer the consequences. I wouldn't put it past him...

Could it be what causes him to see dead people in the first place? In typical LOST fashion, we may never find out.

Me neither. But I still think he has a thing for Kate (I noticed in the next episode preview he calls her 'Freckles" again), and I think now that she's back, he wants to at least be near her, even if he's not with her. I think Sawyer is all about not being able to keep what he wants (he just can't stay happy for long). And when he does get what he wants, he sabotages it. That way he can justify his self-loathing. Maybe Juliette ends up trying to talk him into staying with her with the Dharma people for fear that if he leaves, they'll be over (because of Kate). My guess is that we're nearing the end of the Sawyer-Juliette relationship. Snore.........

I wouldn't be surprised if at some point Miles' father asks Miles to hold baby-Miles during some sort of emergency event, which causes the powers to begin. Or maybe Miles' powers transfers to baby Miles when he touches himself :)D)? Maybe that leaves older-Miles powerless, or maybe the power becomes shared between the two of them.

Another thought..... Miles has said a few times that it doesn't matter what they do, they can't change anything or save anyone. What ever happened, happened. I think that Miles will have a change of heart, or maybe Farraday will tell him that he was wrong and that it does matter what you do. I think Miles will tell his mother to leave the island and to take the baby with her to save her (and him) from the purge. And tells her to never tell him about his father. Maybe he tells her this while holding baby-Miles?

Miles = awesome.

i always thought that Miles is a big key to the mysteries of the Island. Now that we know that Miles's dad is Dr. Chang (also Dr. Candle, Dr. Wickmund, and Dr. Halliwax) i believe it even more.

Other than their obvious connections with the island all the recruits for the freighter were chosen for practical reasons. Charlotte for her work with animals. Faraday for his science expertise. Lapidus for his flight skills. But Miles is a pretty odd add on. He communicates with the dead. He is kind of like a wild card possibly.

"What lies in the shadow of the statue?" With the introduction of Bram we have a definite "other side" to Widmore. Now does this mean that Bram and the others are working for Ben? i dont think that it does. I think that there is another side. Cause when Miles asks Ben for 3.2 million dollars Ben seems a bit perplexed by it. But we now know why Miles asked him. He told Bram that it will coast them double to get him to change sides. So i think that there is a third side to all of this and maybe Ben is not the side that is in battle with Widmore after all.

Is there any reasoning behind the fake names? An anagram or something along those lines?

It seems that everyone has been here before. Lapidus is the only person who hasn't had a back story and is unrelated to the islands past (yet). I think they were brought back because the island is now part of them, besides their obvious skills.

Yep, there certainly seems to be 3 factions now...

The only relationship I see is the connection to candles in each name (candle, wick, wax). I am not sure what the significance is, but I'm sure it's something.

maybe what lies in the shadow of the statue is a candle?;)

i think the whole name thing being a different was to mess with ppl. just like how the people in the pearl believed that they were observing a social experiment by watching the people in the swan, but really they were the ones being experimented on.

only 4 more episodes left!! you know the end of season 5 is going to be a huge cliffhanger. im going to hate having to wait again until season 6. probably going to be the worst wait for a television show. anyone know about when season 6 will air?

But if there is a candle in the shadow then there is no shadow? Wouldn't the candle be casting the shadow?*

All this fingerpointing to the 4 toed giant statue might be to throw us off the scent. Wouldn't be the first time!

*Statue and candle size unclarified

someone pointed out to me that Ben asks Bram and his crew what they were doing with the silver crate on the beach and they just tell him that they need to move it. his response is a very non cavalier "oh ok." i said before that i dont think that Ben and Bram are on the same side but now im getting the feeling that they may be. ahhhh this show is so confusing. i love it tho:D

EDIT: it's not that it is confusing more that it just throws the viewer for loops. one doesnt know what to believe sometimes because the most subtle thing can be the key to the whole show or not. and on the other side of the coin the most obvious clue could end up being entirely useless.

Cool episode - glad to see Faraday back. When we last saw him, he was in the 70's right? Assuming of course seeing him working in the Orchid happened before we saw him in last night's episode. He seemed very calm and confident last night.

I think it's now pretty obvious now that the "past" of the island is going to be rooted in some sort of Egyptian mythology. The exit point, the hieroglyphics everywhere, and the lesson on the chalkboard that Jack was cleaning last night all point to it.

My wild guess about the question "what lies in the shadow of the statue?" is that we're meant to misinterpret the phrasing, and that it is really asking "what tells falsehoods in the shadow of the statue?"

Agreed, and I know the answer: Benjamin Linus.

:D

Odd, he's my favorite character this season.

Is that where the dead Pharaohs and queens get sent after mummification? (The afterlife???:p)

Does anyone have any thoughts on where the show is ultimately going to end up?

I posted a few pages back that the plot of the show seemed to be focused on the Oceanic survivors being rescued, now that does not seem very likely to happen.

I feel like the show is just plodding along just now, revealing mysteries, but lacking direction. What is the overall goal of the rest of this show? What would be a suitable ending?

Jin and Sun reuniting. That's all I care about.

But seriously, it seems like the plot has shifted to getting the survivors back together instead of rescuing them. I guess once they are all back together, they can refocus on getting off the island?

But I agree, it seems to be more about 'what is the smoke monster?' and 'what is the statue all about?' and 'why doesn't Richard age?', instead of being about a plot with a goal in mind.

Oh, and where are the other Losties all this time (besides Sun and Ben and the ones that aren't with Dharma)? Where have they been for the past 3 years? I seem to have lost track of them.

Remember folks at the beginning of this season it was supposed to be Locke having to bring ALL of the survivors back to the island for a purpose. Since this hasn't happened yet I don't see the direction of the show going to trying to get back off the island. There is still something that has to be done that includes all the original Oceanic survivors participating.

i believe that the plot has a direction. dont you guys remember "The War" they always are talking about. the show will end on the island for sure.

how do you guys think will survive the show? and who do you think will get killed off?
the only confirmed character to survive is Vincent.

Survive: Jack, Kate, Sun, Jin, Hurly, Miles, Locke

Die: Ben, Sawyer, Juliet, Faraday, Sayid
Cant really say why i think this it's just a feeling i have

These are just my predictions. What are yours?

I know Darlton have it all under control, even if it might not seem like it. ;) Like VS said, there is the whole "War" plot that we don't know much about. And the way the show works, the new season follows a plot that was introduced at the end of the previous season. Season one ended with the hatch and the raft being blown up which followed into season 2 with exploring the hatch(es) and the rafties meeting with the tailies. Season 4 ends with the O6 leaving and Locke moving the island with season 5 concentrating and Locke trying to get the family back together. I guess my point is that we won't know where the show will be headed (next season) until we finish this one. Something is going to come up with the remaining few episodes that will turn the show towards it's end point. I guarantee it.

I get the feeling that we are seeing a changing of the guard so to speak. The island is picking its next inhabitants. The rest will get on the plane that landed and Frank is going to fly them all home. Unfortunately that leads us back to getting everyone in the same time.

Or... They could all go into the cave and turn the wheel... and end up in Tunisia!

Let's see them try and explain that one! LOL

It's definitely something to do with the "war" but I wonder if war is more metaphorical, maybe the war between Ben and Widmore. Although the introduction of that bomb makes me suspicious of a more conventional war.

And it seems like they wouldn't be introducing time travel unless they were going to upend the regular notions of time travel. For example, they keep talking about how their choices won't affect the future because they know what happened -- the bomb didn't explode and Ben survived without Jack's help. This is all following standard time travel protocols in fiction; why would they introduce them if they weren't planning on rewriting the protocols.

Maybe Little Ben can die? Maybe the bomb can explode? Maybe Widmore can prevent his own banishment? Maybe old Ben can prevent Alex's death?

Maybe that's how Locke walks. On the island he's living through a future where he wasn't thrown out a window. He's alive because he's living through a future where Ben didn't kill him.

I keep coming back to that scene with Dr. Chang and Faraday. Chang doesn't say "time travel." He says "time manipulation." It's an odd choice of words, one that makes me wonder if the Dharma Initiative's ultimate goal is to fix something, presumably in the past.

I was thinking more about this. I liken a candle to time - it goes in one direction at a constant rate of speed. The difference is, a candle has an end, and time (as far as we know) does not. Also, a candle can be stopped, and time (as far as we know) cannot. Perhaps the island is the key to stopping or ending time?
