When Richard took Jack, Kate and Sayid to the bomb, was that place they swam to the temple?

I thought tonight's episode was really good, but it didn't reveal as much as I had hoped. I just hope we find out something good during next week's season finale.

Kate didnt go and when Jack asks where are we Richard replies we are in the "tunnels". he didnt say they were in the temple. It may be that they are one in the same but if this were true why wouldnt he just say the temple.

Ah... I knew Kate didn't go. My bad.

I was just thinking that the room where the bomb was at looked a lot like the room that Ben went to be judged by the smoke monster. I guess it's probably not the same place, but it looks like it was built at the same time.

Did anybody else notice that the boat in the bottle that Richard was putting together looked like the Black Rock? I wonder what that means?

Edit: I also don't think that Richard is Jacob. I don't think we've been introduced to Jacob yet.

this to me goes back to a Theory that i read that Richard was the first mate on the black rock and that Jacob was the capt. they were the only survivers of the wreck and were "changed" by the island.

I think Richard was worried about Locke wanting to talk to Jacob because he is the smoke monster. Think about it. Richard always seems to be coming out from the woods. His hair is black and he doesn't age. He's been on the island for a long, long time.

The tunnels are underneath the temple. The same place the smoke monster came out of once and the place Ben went to be judged by the smoke monster.

i have always felt that Richard was the smoke monster too but something about it doesnt make sense. just wait and see i guess.

there is a really good discussion about it HERE if you are interested.

I dunno how I feel about Richard being Smokie. I mean it makes some sense but it's just weird I think. I'd rather have Richard have his own backstory and Smokie another.

Solid episode, did it's job of setting up very well. I knew that Sawyer and Juliet wouldn't leave, I thought that Sawyer would only let Juliet go or the sub turn back in the finale. Looks like the latter happens. I'm not sure if the tunnels/temple is the same but it looks like it. I think that the Egyptian civilization that was on the island is underground. Possibly there was a volcanic eruption that caused their city to be buried underground, but I'm not sure how that would work or if that's possible. But there's definitely layers here... I wonder if there's anything below that.

So what do we think is going to happen next week? Will the bomb go off? Will it cause everything to change? Will the Hurley bird make a surprise appearance? Place your bets now! :D

Here's a theory....... maybe Jacob is a future version of Locke.

This is why Locke is so special.

A future Locke would know everything that is supposed to happen because everything has already happened to him. Knowing everything that is supposed to happen, he can give the orders so that things turn out the way that they are supposed to- to make Locke into Jacob, so he can go back in time and start everything going on the right track again. Like a cycle.

A future Locke would care very deeply for the island, and would do everything in his power to protect it, which would include manipulating everyone into doing what is best for the island. Locke showed tonight that he is capable of manipulation when he told Ben that he lied to Sun about why they were going to see Jacob (and, for that matter, lied to all the Hostiles as well).

And if I'm wrong, and it's not Locke, then I think that Jacob is, at the least, someone from the future, who lived through all of these events and knows how things happen so that he can make them happen again.

Maybe Richard knows this because he's seen Jacob, but doesn't think (or know) that it's time for Locke to find out that it's him. Maybe Richard is Locke's advisor regarding events that occurred prior to Locke's arrival on the island.

Ben has never seen Jacob, so he doesn't know that Locke is Jacob. Maybe Jacob/Locke told Richard that Ben isn't allowed to see him.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Richard was a(n) (important?) member of the Black Rock's crew. The fact that he was making a ship in a bottle tonight is highly suggestive.

The smoke monster..... I'm not convinced that it is Richard. Seems kind of lame. I think that the smoke monster is something more- either it's a life of some kind, or it's some sort of future technology that is being used to protect the island.

Did I blow anyone's mind? Edit: Based on the lack of responses, I guess not. Ah well, I still think it's very likely.

I actually like that theory a lot.

I completely agree. Unless there's a really cool explanation, I think that it would be better if Richard and the smoke monster were not the same thing.

I wouldn't be surprised that whoever Jacob is, knows the future, but I'm not too sure about Jacob being a future Locke.

if the (1977) hostiles are an insular group without significant contact with the external world, as it is sort of suggested, they must be a self-sustained community.
where are their fields? their kids and elderly? where do they get their fabrics? their tools and weapons? (not to mention genetic pool issues)

Up until the next weeks previews, I was thinking that Sawyer / Juliette were the mysterious 3rd group that tried to talk Miles out of going back to the island. Now I'm starting to think that it may be his father running the third group.

Pretty crazy to meet your own adult son, although his father didn't seem to react to much to the news.

I think Richard may be from the Egyptian times. Mostly due to Ben's comments about being there a very long long (long) time.

If those were the Tunnels where Locke was judged, there was clearly no big bomb in the room. I don't think this is the same set of tunnels, because Elli clearly said they burried it and the Darma group built their camp over it. So this has to be the same tunnels under Ben's house.

Jack's personality has done a complete 180. He used to be analytical, think for himself kind of guy and all of the sudden he's just going with the flow??? Again, very out of character, just like Daniel.

How much do you want to bet that Juliette takes the sub back! Just to get Kate out of her life with Sawyer... LOL

Why do I get the feeling that we see the Bomb blow and a fade to the individual characters in their current lives. With that little hint of Jeez, what just happened...

Richards backstory was wack. I've been waiting on his story since like Season 2/3 and it's here now and blah.

Atleast I only had to wait a few days unlike some people who have been waiting for years.

the tunnels and the place were Ben was judged was the same place. Remember Ben fell down from the temple into somewhere below. presumably, the tunnels.

Oh yeah. I forgot that he fell through the floor to the place where he was judged. So I guess I might be right about it being the same place.

i dont think we learned the whole story tonite. they are not just going to leave it at he's been an advisor for a long time.

I think that's on purpose. In this episode we saw Jack talking about fate, as Locke always did, and Locke leading the flock and telling everyone things will be OK, just as Jack always did.

Remember when Jack was putting his father's shoes on Locke in the coffin and said that Locke would laugh if he saw him? That was part of the same role reversal.

As far as Locke knowing exactly when something happens. Remember. Daniel knew exactly when stuff happened too. He used a journal but Locke doesn't appear to need anything.

And Locke started to know when things happened right after Daniel died.

Not sure if that means anything.

And I think Locke actually kills Jacob. Remember a few episodes back. Maybe last season. Locke went to Jacobs cabin and after going inside there was a skeleton sitting in a chair. Meaning he had died in that chair a long time ago. Maybe in 1977.

i dont remember a skeleton? can you give the specific episode?

I don't remember the specific episode but I remember him going inside and there was a rocking chair then things kinda went woosh and a flash of light went past it and there was a skeleton in the chair just for a second. I think the skeleton had on a Dharma suit also.

Maybe last season. Someone here has to remember.

The place of judgement was under the Temple, which was up in the mountains, no where near the camp if I recall correctly.

As far as Locke visiting the Cabin, there was someone actually in the rocking chair. I think the LOST sites actually had a partial screenshot of man. I don't remember the skeleton though, you may be right.

this is, as far as i know, the only image we have seen of him.

Ok. I guess I was wrong.

From season 4 episode 11 "Cabin Fever"-----

In the jungle, Hurley, Ben and Locke find the cabin. Ben tells Locke he has to go in alone. Ben's time is over. Locke enters the cabin and sees a man sitting in a chair. It's Christian Shephard, Jack's dead father. Never knowing Jack's father, Locke doesn't recognize him. Christian introduces himself, and Locke asks if he's Jacob. Christian says no but he can speak on his behalf. Christian asks if Locke knows why he's there. Locke says because he was chosen. Then he hears something and realizes there's someone else in the cabin with them. He looks over and it's Claire! What is she doing there? Claire says not to worry, she's fine. She's with Christian. But where's Aaron? Aaron is where he's supposed to be. Christian tells Locke the people from the freighter are already on their way back and these questions aren't important. Locke then asks how does he save the island? Cut to outside where Ben and Hurley wait. Locke comes out, and Ben anxiously asks what Jacob wants them to do. Locke says, "He wants us to move the island."
