Let's see... haven't watched the episode in at least a year but I'm sure I remember it.

Desmond conscious appeared to have traveled back in time and he was with Penny. He decided he was going to marry her (and try to change the past) so he goes to the ring shop to buy a ring. Ms. Hawking is there she helps him when he says "I'll take it" she pauses tells him no you won't, you don't buy the ring you leave and you end up on the island. Desmond gives a big WTF. They take a walk have some chestnuts and some dude with red chucks bites it. Des says you knew he was gonna die Hawking said yes, there's nothing I could've done. He doesn't die today he will tomorrow (this of course was saying that Charlie was gonna die no matter what) because the universe has a way of correcting itself. I think this was the gist of it... Des doesn't propose gets whacked at the bar and he returns to his island self.

Also remember that Hawking was in the picture in that religious guy's office (when Des was a monk?). Not sure the connection there but we've seen her there too.

I believe this transpires in season 3

Alrighty, I've got my own screwy ideas floating.

While watching Crusoe — NBC, I have decided that the Crusoe Island is the "Lost Island" and that Sam Neil is a descendent of that Windemier (sp?) guy. Crusoe and Friday become the "Others." At some point they move the island in the same idea as Ben did so that the Sam Neil's character will never find it. But, unfortunately the Darma people discovered the island.

This season is going to be incredibly difficult to keep up with, with the jumping back and forth and forward.

Ah, I think I can cope with it. By the way, what do y'all think Locke(him?) meant when he said "I didn't shoot them because they're one of my people"

The guy that ran off is an Other v.1.0.

So it looks like Ellie, the girl with the gun on Farraday, might be Eloise Hawkings from the episode before/Season 3.

Wasn't Eloise the rat that Farraday was experimenting on?

Eloise is the lady from the shop that Desmond tried to buy the engagement ring from. She denied him, and told him that he was going to the island.

She turned up last epi, doing some intense math to calculate how long Ben had until, well, whatever. I think she is the young Ellie in this episode.

And "Aw, snap!" is right. Widmore! Didn't Richard give something last epi to Locke so Richard would know h

Ooh. Wait. Charles Whidmore is Penny's father right?

Yes. Next episode looks sawwweeeeeeett!

This is the first time I've ever watched a season as it airs, I've always watched them on iTunes in big chunks after the season was over. It's incredibly frustrating, watching it with commercials and not being able to start the next episode after the one you are watching is over.

Ohhh yeah. But I always get the DVD sets pretty much in the first week they're available, and watch that again. Then the new season starts and yupp.

Good episode! I like the fact that Desmond named his kid Charley, and I caught the name "Jughead" on the H-Bomb so I decided to google it. It came back with a Wiki about early "mass produced" atomic weapons. The part concerning the Jughead was:
There were also 5 examples of the EC16 "Jughead" cryogenic bomb, a direct development of the "Mike" device produced, starting in January 1954, before the EC17/24 bombs.
.. Produced in 1954, the same year Richard said it was when he had the sit down with Locke.

it's widmore kids.

if i were new to lost i think i would probably be lost with the show story line. probably doesn't make much sense if you haven't seen every episode (or most of it) so far. i hope this season picks up steam because there's just a lot of time traveling so far with some key points

Richard gave Locke the compass so that Locke could give it to Richard so Richard can give it back to Locke. It should also be on the table when Richard went to visit Locke at school when he was a boy. Part of the process for picking a leader.

Indeed it is. Back to correct my post......

So maybe the writers did have a some semblance of a clue how they were going to wrap this whole thing up, even way back in that episode.

Even as a big fan of the show, I've thought they've been winging it for a while now.

Some nice tyings up there.
Wonder why they wanted to blow the island up though?

Also, is it just my display or has Lost got extremely high contrast? I only just noticed during the scene with the red-brick terraced houses, its as if the contrast has been thrown up a few notches compared to UK shows.

And where was that bossy Other girl from? "you just couldn't stay away" sounded British, then she went American and then Australian.

Anyone else think it was kinda cute to see Daniels voice change when he got worried? Bless!

Other than the fact that there's this compass that no one seems to have bought that's caught in a 50+ year time loop.

Locke-Richard in 1950s,
Richard-Locke in 200x,
Locke-Richard in 1950s,
Richard-Locke in 200x,
Locke-Richard in 1950s,
Richard-Locke in 200x

Where did the compass come from?
Does Richard have to buy it at some point and carry 2 of them around? Does he have to make sure that he gives Locke the right one lest it blink out of existence since it was never bought?

Finally, the show is starting to go somewhere...

At one point, Daniel was on the beach and wrote in his book that Juliet was his constant. When she asked what it mean, he said you needed a constant to get back in the correct time or something to that effect.

Last night Locke or Sawyer asked Juliet about Richard. She said he's always been here. Is Richard the key to getting back to the correct time? The island's constant if you will.

Now we sort of know why Charles Widmore is so pissed at Ben. The question is we still don't know who the good guy or bad guy is there.

Widmore was surprised to see Desmond, but told them to go hide. I assume Ben is looking to kill Penny in revenge for killing his (Danielle's) daughter Alex.

Who was the student laying in the Bed? Was that Charlotte? Was she a human experiment to send her back in time (like the mice). I missed that point.

And where was that bossy Other girl from? "you just couldn't stay away" sounded British, then she went American and then Australian.

The accents seem to change to me, too. I thought young Widmore sounded more American towards the end, but my memory could be fuzzy with everything else that happened.

And you've hit exactly on the head why I thought that going the time travel route was a rather weak way for them to write themselves out of the holes they dug.

Deus ex machina, and all.

But who am I kidding? I squealed like a girl when Richard called the soldier Widmore. I'll faithfully watch every episode.

I know this, what's cooking on the island is more interesting than what the Oceanic 6 have going on.

Alright guys, I have a theory. I haven't seen it posted anywhere, so I am claimind original ownership :p.

I think that Desmond is going to have to go back to the island and live there to fix the time rift (because he turned the key that screwed everything up). Penny will stay with him because she loves him. They will go back in time and fix the time rift trapping them in the past.

Who does that make Desmond and Penny? Adam and Eve from the second episode. Snap!

My wife called it last season, that Widmore was originally an Other and was trying to get back. You should have seen her rubbing my nose in it last night!

(On a side note she also predicted who the final Cylon would be on BSG.)

I could've sworn that in the episode(s) where Desmond had to go back in time to Penny (Who was his constant), Farraday wrote that "If anything happens, Desmond is my constant", and he actually had to read that and tell Desmond to go back to his (Farraday) mother. Then the Light Flash happened, and he came to the beach, then they got attacked by the Fire Peoples

Isn't that what happened?

That's a good un!
