Eloise is the lady from the shop that Desmond tried to buy the engagement ring from. She denied him, and told him that he was going to the island.

She turned up last epi, doing some intense math to calculate how long Ben had until, well, whatever. I think she is the young Ellie in this episode.

If she is, in fact, the young Ellie (the blonde with the gun on the island), it will be interesting to find out why she's helping Ben after he killed all of the descendants of the circa 1954 Others. I guess, for now, it can be chalked up to their common interest of protecting the island.

It was good to find out more of the happenings on the island.... the Oceanic 6 story-line is kind of blah.

I could've sworn that in the episode(s) where Desmond had to go back in time to Penny (Who was his constant), Farraday wrote that "If anything happens, Desmond is my constant", and he actually had to read that and tell Desmond to go back to his (Farraday) mother. Then the Light Flash happened, and he came to the beach, then they got attacked by the Fire Peoples

Isn't that what happened?

These story lines are getting extremely hard to follow anymore. It may have been Desmond. I can't imagine someone trying to just start watching this show.

One thing that struck me is Locke visted the new camp (with the tents) which we have always known to be the others home. Where did they live before? What problem existed that they had to flee their original living space. Could that be the sickness (biological testing) that was going on?

Whilst watching that episode I came to think that the sickness was due to that bomb leaking radiation.
I also figured the natives (hostiles, whatever) were nomads and moved from camp to camp. That this time it was just easier for them to take the army camp. Or they might just prefer the modern stuff the army camp had to offer over their own.

Last night's episode was incredible! Alright, I realized something great last night. I don't know if you guys remember who Goodwin was, but if you can remember season 2, he was the other that was spying on the people on the back of the plane. Right before Ana Lucia killed him, she noticed that he had a U.S. army knife, which would make sense because at the moment that they are on the island now, the army is testing out bombs there. Ahh this is so crazy.

I'm pretty sure I also remember Farraday stating that Desmond is his constant.

I think that the Others were just using that camp as a base while they were pretending to be the American soldiers that they killed. They were all dressed in US Army gear. They were doing this in case more soldiers came to get the hydrogen bomb or to attack them for killing the other soldiers.

Remember during season 1 (and 2?) when the Others were dressed like ragged island dwellers while they were scaring the Oceanic survivors? It's just part of their tactics.

Ben helped the original others (the hostiles) to purge the dharma people, so he would have been on the same 'side'.
questions are: are daniel and penny brother and sister? is the sick girl related to ellie/widmore?
when did widmore become separated from the Alpert/ben others? before or after ben joined them?

my guess is that widmore was the 'next other leader' until ben came along and got rid of him.

my guess is that widmore was the 'next other leader' until ben came along and got rid of him.

Given that Widmore was in the army as a regular brute and in the future/present day is filthy stinkin rich one can imagine he's got a good business mind, so if that theory does prove to be true I can imagine Widmore wanted to use the island for his own gains and thus removed from the island by the Others.

Yes. Desmond is Farraday's constant. And your recount is accurate.

Crazy ending! I was enjoying the episode and then the last 15 minutes knocked me off the couch! Some thoughts I had...

Now we know why there was so much concrete in the swan hatch! That's where (I believe) they put Jughead. I'm still not entirely sure about the whole electromagnetic thing and why the button needed to be pushed and what happened when the fail safe was turned, but remember Sayid said he had no seen this amount of concrete being used since Chernobyl? Yea, that was pretty cool.

And young Widmore! That was pretty insane. I think he was (or wanted) to become the next leader but Ben took his place. That or Ben somehow managed to force him off the island because there is definitely an issue between the two.

And that's why Richard visited Locke as a young kid! To see if it was true or not. Crazy crazy crazy.

I empathize with those who say the show is getting extremely hard to follow.

A week or two ago, when Faraday finally explained a little bit about the time distortions, I was finally feeling like it was all beginning to come together. But after last night, it seems to have gotten 10x more complicated again.

The other thing that drives me crazy about this show is that so much of it depends on people not talking to each other. Nobody gives anybody else a straight answer or even finishes a sentence.

I realize you've gotta preserve some of the mystery, but those two things (the convoluted plot and the avoidance of saying anything) make me wonder if they really know where this is going.

You'll recall that the downfall of The X Files was that the "mythology" seemed to be not going anywhere. They just kept layering one crazy idea upon another until none of it made sense anymore.

And as to the near-total lack of expository dialogue, that's getting really, really, really old. I have to admit I'm tempted to just give up on the show.

Alright guys, I have a theory. I haven't seen it posted anywhere, so I am claimind original ownership :p.

I think that Desmond is going to have to go back to the island and live there to fix the time rift (because he turned the key that screwed everything up). Penny will stay with him because she loves him. They will go back in time and fix the time rift trapping them in the past.

Who does that make Desmond and Penny? Adam and Eve from the second episode. Snap!

P-Worm

Snap is right! I love this theory.

I can't wait until I have the LOST Blu-ray box set, and can watch this entire thing from start to finish.

How you folks remember **** from the early seasons amazes me. I don't know if I'm more confused from watching the show or from reading this thread. :D

The Adam and Eve theory sounds pretty good considering that Locke said their clothes look about 50 years old, which is the time period that they losties are stuck in now.

It's not from the second episode of Season one. I want to say it's the 5th, probably the 6th. The 5th is when Jack is seeing his dad and he finds the caves but I believe the 6th is when they check out the caves and find "Adam and Eve."

But how could that be Desmond and Penny? If that was them and they are dead before the survivors arrive then that means neither exists... but they obviously do later on as we see him in the hatch. So he's in the hatch and lying next to his dead wife at the same time?

I think we'll find out who Adam and Eve are in on the of time shifts. Hopefully they travel far enough to see who built the four toed statue as well. ;)

It could be Penny and Des.

*In the future, us (me and you) imagining*

Desmond and Penny are forced to go back to the island.

They somehow Time Travel 60 years back. Go to that cave, and die holding the stones.

Then comes Locke and the gang in the 4th (or so) episode. They look at the dead bodies. Walk away

*Flash forward to now*

Then Desmond comes (I don't know how, because I didn't watch Season 1 or 2).

They all get rescued by Penny and her ship.

They realize that Penny and Desmond must go to the island to live their lives.

They go to the island.
Somehow they time travel back in time. (Repeat)

I'm hoping they time warp all the way to the Blackrock landing. I would love to see how the ship ended up that far inland.
